Today we see Abraham's remarriage and death. Then, we transition to the continuance of the covenant through Isaac and we also see Isaac's replication of Abraham's sins. The two nations or two sons of Isaac then fight for control of the birthright. Finally, we cover God blessing Isaac despite his sins and how the blessings of Yahweh affect the nations around us and how important having an eternal perspective affects our witness.

Today we see Abraham's testing by the Lord to kill his only son, yet the Lord spares him and blesses him because he obeyed, even when faced with uncertainty. We see Sarah dying and Abraham seeking out a tomb for his wife, that uncovers the theme that even the pagan nations recognize the uniqueness of following God. Finally, God blesses Isaac with a wife for him, and the covenant community continues because of the obedience of Abraham.

Today we see God destroy Sodom because of their great sinning against Him. Lot's daughters committing incest with their father. Abraham lying, once again, to a king for his safety, yet God did not allow the nation to sin against him, he spared them. Finally, Yahweh fulfilled his promise of a literal son to Abraham and Sarah, as well as Ishmael being sent away.

Today we see Sarai take matters into her own hands by giving her servant to Abram. Yahweh showing us how he uses this evil that he meant for good all along. We see the covenant reestablished and the promise that Abram,now Abraham,would have a literal son through Sarai, now Sarah. Finally, we see the evil of Sodom and Gomorrah brought before Yahweh.

Today we find ourselves back in the book of Genesis. Today begins second half of the first book. Genesis is divided into two sections, 1-11 and 12-50. The latter shows how God uses one man to make a spiritual and literal nation for His glory.

Today's reading concludes God's speeches to Job, where he declares his omniscience and his power over all of creation. Job repents and confessed he did not understand nor will he ever understand God's glory. The book ends with Job being blessed doubly, yet like all mankind, Job faced the harsh reality of death.

Today's reading covers the beginning of God's speeches to Job. He appears out of a whirlwind and tells Job to "gird up [his] loins." God shows how he created and sustains all of creation. He asks Job where he was during the creation and where he is during the sustaining of the world.

In today's readings we are introduced to a new character--Elihu. Elihu has to speak, he cannot take the errors in the theology of Job and his friends. He speaks from chapter 32 through 37. We begin with an introduction of Elihu, then, a directed speech towards Job; finally, Elihu contends with all who "claim to be wise." Elihu is an interesting person, he, like all of the characters in the book of Job have both good and bad takes. Ultimately, he is the one who goes prepares the way for God to exalt His majesty and sovereignty over creation.
