This week on the Exciting & New podcast, Jason, Andy and Dana set the controls to 11 and discuss the 1984 MockRockumentary This is Spinal Tap. In this insane fake documentary about the fake band Spinal Tap, we travel with Marty Di Bergi as he captures the sights, sounds and smells of a touring rock band. David, Nigel and Derek are all aging rock stars (?) touring America to promote their new album Smell the Glove. Murphy's Law is on their side as everything that can go wrong, does go wrong. It's is completely hilarious, with one of the best soundtracks that a fake band as ever produced. Keep a sharp eye out for a ton of not-yet-famous cameos. This movie clocks in at 82 minutes, but somewhere out there, there is a 272 minute verison. Extra points to any E&N fan that can find that copy and send it our way.

This week on the Exciting & New podcast Jason Andy and Dana break down the 1984 Cobra Kai prequel film The Karate Kid. Jersey boy Ralph Macchio plays a bullied kid who’s lucky enough to live in the same apartment complex as Mr Miyagi (soft g, not hard g). Miyagi has tons of chores for our karate kid to work on that will miraculously translate directly to the karate mat. Elizabeth Shue joins in on the fun playing the insanely-too-hot-for-the-guy-even-by-Hollywood-standards love interest. Come for the karate. Stay for the mild anti Asian racism. Hey it was 80s. Enjoy the pod.

This week on the Exciting & New podcast, Jason Andy and Dana discuss the 1984 action adventure movie Indiana J.....no, wait, sorry.... the adventure rom-com movie Romancing the Stone. Kathleen Turner plays a romance novelist who runs into Michael Douglas doing an Indy ripoff as they try to beat a pre-Frank Reynolds Danny DeVito to the "Stone". Will they make it? Does anybody care?? This movies tries to be a lot of things. Listen to the podcast and hear if they succeed at any of them.

This week on the Exciting & New podcast Jason Andy and Dana are back from their Christmas break and ready to kick off 1984 with the dance dram-edy Footloose. In this Kevin Bacon vehicle, he moves to Utah (or is it Indiana with all those mountains) and all he wants to do is what all teenage boys want to do. Dance. But mean ol' preacher John Lithgow won't let him. My Lord, how will this ever be resolved? Anyway, KB is joined by Sean Penn's brother, Marc Singer's sister (or possibly brother.... I'm not sure) and a surprisingly cute SJP. Get ready for a lot of dancing. Enjoy the pod.

This week on the Exciting & New podcast, Jason Andy and Dana finish the year strong, with the timeless holiday classic, A Christmas Story. I would try to give a funny write up here for this movie, but you have all seen it. Everyone has seen this movie. You know all the jokes. Fudge, Bupkis dogs, flag pole triple dog dares., the major award The whole deal. Instead I will give my new years revolution for the coming year (1984). Get better at producing podcast. I lost the mini to this week's show. (I'm still sorry for all those that suffered through watching Krull in prepartion for our podcast on it and then didnt get to hear us rip it down). Things will change in the new year. Sound better, produced better and NO LOST EPISODES!! The Exciting & New gang is very excited (but not very new) about slate of movies coming in 1984. We are going to take the rest of the year off to recharge and prepare for the fun. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and don't shoot your eye out.
