Exciting and New

Jason, Andy and Dana are joined by Connor as they discuss what they are watching this week.  Dune is coming this Wednesday.

Jason, Andy and Dana will discuss a 1986 movie weekly, breaking down all the nonsense there within. The 3 hosts all work together and everyone else around them was getting really annoyed at all the movie talk, so they decided to annoy the world in podcast form.

Check out previous seasons to hear them discuss 1982, 1983, 1984 & 1985 movies, as well as a full season of Love Boat episodes (if that is your thing). Plus one-off specials and a weekly mini "what are we watching" podcast.

This week on the Exciting & New podcast, Jason, Andy and Dana discuss the 1984 ZAZ written and directed Airplane follow up (that's right, they had nothing to do with Airplane 2) Top Secret!  Val Kilmer is a young Elvis type singing and dancing his way through eastern Europe in this 1960s, or possibly 1950s, or maybe even WW2 era parody movie. This movie is not as good as Airplane or Naked Gun, but it has some laughs and most of the gang liked this movie.  Watch the movie and see if you can spot all the mid-80s cameos.  Oh and listen to the pod.

This week on the Exciting & New podcast, Jason, Andy and Dana travel back to the ancient year of 1980 for a very special episode as they discuss the cameo filled movie Midnight Madness. Part Mad, Mad World, part After-school special, 5 groups of college kids (all broken up in their appropriate stereotype) race around Los Angeles on a scavenger hunt to win the....uh.. what did they win? It doesn't matter. The logic of this movie makes no sense but it is quite fun. Filled with future stars and tons of has beens, come join us as we follow Flounder, Eugene, Rick Baker's favorite Werewolf and some unknown kid billed as Mike Fox in madness that is done after midnight

This week on the Exciting & New podcast, Jason, Andy and Dana discuss the 1984 Neo-Noir Coen Brothers movie Blood Simple. This is the first time out for the Coen's and it shows. This movie looks like it had a budget of about $50, and if you belive some of the stories, that $50 was hard earned. We know the Coens will go on to do amazing things, and a Coen-rewatch is certainly in Andy's future, but this one seems more like a college film than a theatrical release. But we get a first-time Frances McDormand, a pre-Cheers Nick Tortelli (Dana knows him better as Mel Horowitz) and super creepy M. Emmet Walsh in all his sleazy goodness. Also, we will be releasing a special non-1984 movie this weekend that Jason has been begging us to do. Will all that hype, can it stick the landing? You'll have to listen and find out.

Jason, Andy and Dana are back and you can tell they are a little rusty as they have early mic issues before they figure it out and tell you what they have been up to the last couple weeks. As a special Welcome Back bonus, we'll be posting the 1984 movie Blood Simple a little later today and then release a special non-1984 movie this weekend.

This week on the Exciting & New podcast, the kids take a sick week, and repost their Porky's episode from 2 years in honor of Tony Ganios, otherwise known as Meat, who passed away today. Once the doctor clears us and we get off the pot and back on the pod, we will be back to 1984 movies with Blood Simple coming soon. RIP Meat.

This week on the Exciting & New podcast Jason Andy and Dana welcome Prodigal Son Logan back as they discuss the 1984 start to the Hughesiverse, Sixteen Candles. In this coming of age movie, hottie Senior Jake is somehow into basic looking Sophomore Sam. It makes zero sense. Anthony Michael Hall starts his long run playing the Nerd. In fact, he is billed in the credits as "The Nerd". Look it up. Gedde Watanabe plays Long Duk Dong, quite possibly the most stereotypically racist character ever put in a movie. I mean, I laughed every time he appeared on screen, but I didn't feel good about it. Enjoy the pod.

This week on the Exciting & New podcast, Jason,Andy and Dana welcome back Mike (first guest of the year!!) as we discuss the 1984 action adventure (and racist?) Dr Henry Jones Jr. sequel to Raiders, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. Ah... remember when an Indy movie was met with excitment? Indy is joined on this adventure with an Asian boy and a whiny Mrs Speilberg as he tries to figure out why Indian people are eating live snakes and eyeball soup. Some voodooish heart snatching and way too much child abuse follow. Will Indy win the girl and save the day? Listen to the pod and find out.
