  • [party in my plants] 70: The Life-Changing Magic of Not Giving a F*&k! with Sarah Knight

Sarah Knight is many impressive things. She’s a wife, a 3 times internally best-selling author, a TEDx speaker (and her talk has been viewed over 3 million times), and she’s one of the funniest writers I’ve ever read, so it’s hopefully pretty obvious why I consider her, to be like, my idol? Sarah, whose first book, The Life Changing Magic of Not Giving a Fuck (not to be confused by The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up. Very different author. Very different book. Although actually more similar than you might think. Which we talk a ton about). But anyway, Sarah’s first book blew her onto the scene and up the charts and rocked a lot of people's lives, and since then she quickly banged out two follow up books, Get Your Shit Together and You Do You, both of which continue to rock a lot of people's’ lives. In this episode, she'll rock yours, too.

    Get ready to hear:

    • How to make a f*ck budget and why it’ll change your life forever.
    • Sarah’s brilliant “Not-Sorry” Method which’ll help you be more honest, more often, more politely.
    • The power of negative thinking. That’s right - NEGATIVE thinking!
    • How mental decluttering and mental redecorating can help you have more body confidence.
    • How to be good selfish :-)
    • And so much more!

  • [party in my plants] 69: 18 Health Goals That Are Not Dumb

Since the last digit of the date just changed, that means it's obviously time for us as humans to make a massive life change! (Duh.) Personally, I’m not a resolution-ist because I honestly set goals all year long. I just set NOT-DUMB™ goals. (It’s an acronym. And also a literary description of how goals should be.) In this episode, I define NOT-DUMB™ goals, I rant a tiny bit about goals vs. intentions and how you need both to succeed versus flying solo with one or the other, and I suggest 18 (cuz it’s now 2018, duh) 18 specific, NOT-DUMB™ party in my plants approved positive HEALTHY GOALS that you might wanna consider setting. Try some on for size. Meditate on them. Ponder one during your next sweat session. Modify them to fit your unique desires. Whatevs you wanna do, here are some of my ideas on goals.

  • [party in my plants] 66: How to Not Fake Smile Through Life! And at Your Wedding. With Aleisha McCormack, aka: The Bridechilla

Aleisha McCormack, known fondly as The Bridechilla, because she’s the host of the hit #1 wedding planning podcast called Bridechilla, isn’t a wedding planner, a gown designer, or a wedding caterer...she’s just a gal (well she’s an author, comedian and TV producer) with an on-point Australian accent who likes to help people be chiller brides, the same way I like to help people be chiller healthy eaters.

But hold on!!! Don’t skip this podcast if you already did the wedding thing (or aren’t even close to doing the wedding thing) because I promise, we talk about a heck of a lot of important stuff that’s NOT wedding related. (And between you and me, Aleisha’s whole wedding-themed podcast really is an inspiring life podcast disguised under the wedding guide. Sneaky sneaky.) A little warning here: swears are sworn during this chat so if you have little kiddos in the room or a cat or a dog or a plant whom you don’t want to hear naughty words that sound deceptively not naughty because they’re said in a cute Australian accent, you might wanna pop in those headphones, or take out those earmuffs. :-)

    Press play to hear:

    • Our collective disdain for the “sick shit” of shedding for the wedding.
    • How to apply the “fuck the chair covers” mentality to your everyday non-wedding planning life.
    • To tradition or not tradition? We talk about how to decide.
    • How weddings are a great metaphor for life.
    • The thing that I did for my wedding that earned me “10 Goldchilla Bridechilla Points” from Aelisha!
    • The rule of fake smiling and how to apply it to your everyday life.
    • A little chitter chatter from one female comedian to the other.
    • And so much more!

  • [party in my plants] 65: Crushing Crohn’s Disease & UnDiet-ing with Meghan Telpner

Today’s guest is someone I’ve admired from afar for a long time. (And by “a far” I mean across a border because she’s in Canada and I’m in America. Good thing I record my podcasts on Skype, eh?) Meghan Telpner is one of my favorite -- or favourite -- humans to follow for down to earth, no BS, fun, welcoming and bubbly nutrition info! Meghan is an an author, speaker, nutritionist, founder and director of the Academy of Culinary Nutrition, and as she says, the head cheerleader of your life! Yay rah rah kale boom bah! What really drew me to her years ago was when I saw that she published a healthy eating book called “UNDIET” -- can I get a get an amen and a shared middle finger pointed up at dieting?! So I was thrilled to pick her brain about everything UNDIETing and then some…

    You’ll hear:

    • The full lowdown on ‘UNDIET’ing!
    • Why it’s ok, natural and normal to tweak your healthy diet over time. DON’T FREAK OUT!
    • The miraculous way that food helped Meghan crush her Crohn’s Disease symptoms.
    • How to set your own healthy “set point” (and what the heck that means).
    • How to decipher between actual superfoods and actual BS buzzwords.
    • And lots more!

  • [party in my plants] 64: My IBS Story (Ie. That Time I Almost Pooped My Pants!) And More Personal Stuff! With Me. Questioned by The Healthy Maven.

This episode is a little backwards. Like, it’s kind of opposite day on my podcast today. And I blame Davida! It’s all her fault! And her idea! And I love it! I connected with Davida (who you might know better as The Healthy Maven, because like that’s her blog name and she has a pretty popular blog) in a pretty ballsy way: I just emailed her. I reached out after seeing on Instagram and hearing on her podcast just how she has a really inclusive, chill, welcome, honest perspective on wellness. Just like me, she’s all about doing and eating the healthy stuff in order to be able to go out there and live your best freaking life rather than doing and eating the healthy stuff in PLACE of living your life. Nah mean? (She and I also both have goldendoodles and got engaged around the same time and started our podcast around the same time so yeah, we bonded over that too.) And then we became real life friends! Like we hung out in the flesh! Which is awesome and a good life-lesson if you’re afraid to go out there and make real life friends with internet people.

Anyhoot, instead of bring her on for a traditional podcast interview, she suggested coming on MY podcast to interview me! Ballsy on her part, right? She’s like “lemme just steal the host spot of the party in my plants podcast!” Whatever, it worked, we did it. And this is the episode.

    You’ll hear:

    • My really never-before told story of my struggle with IBS. (Complete with a near poop-in-pants-incident and all!)
    • How “OWNING IT” is the way to be able to eat your plants and party, too!
    • WHY I eat and promote plants. Like for real. Getting deep now.
    • How I work backwards from my big future dreams to figure out what to do now.
    • And more!

  • [party in my plants] 63. Healthy Holiday Self-Care: How Prioritizing “I” Can Mean Less Pie! A re-broadcast with Jamie Mendell

I wanted to bring this year-old episode back to life… give it a new opportunity to hit your ears and sink into your head and heart because it contains incredibly valuable little golden nuggets for navigating the holidays with your sanity and jean buttons in tact. This is a chat with Jamie Mendell, who is a self-care lifestyle coach that’s in love with showing people how to lovingly care for themselves. After struggling with her own food problems for 10+ years, Jamie Mandell had a mind-blowing and binge stopping and weight-dropping revelation….that it wasn’t actually a food problem or a need-more-willpower struggle that she had, but rather: a self-care deficiency. Which is a term that I officially coined. I loved talking to Jamie about how we can slip more self-care into the holiday shuffle because if ever is a time that we have food struggles, it’s during the holidays. And thus, if ever is a time to hear this episode, it’s now.

    Get ready to hear:

    • why Jamie is so passionate about teaching self-care
    • how a self care deficiency could potentially be a cause of holding extra weight
    • the 411 about the 4 components of self care: mental, emotional, physical, soulful
    • how to have more confidence in an instant
    • a step-by-step self-care regimen for a holiday
    • and lots more!

My guest today is my sister from another mister, a woman with another catchy business name that has the word plant in it, a wearer of the coolest hats ever, literally and also figuratively because she wears super stylish hats on her head but also wears the hat of podcast host, second podcast host (she has 2 podcasts), cookbook author, mom, wife, stage 4 endometriosis thriver, and proudly: my friend. Ok, you know I’m talking about Jessica Murnane, don’t you? If you don’t already know Jessica’s work, or vegan, gluten free chocolate chip cookies, you’re probs about to fall in love with her - and them. I should probably tell you actual biography stuff. Ok, Jessica is the founder of one part plant, a movement dedicated to helping peeps not party in their plants..that’s my thing, but eat one plant-based meal a day. Equally as cool. She’s the host of the One Part Podcast, The Cookbook Deal Podcast and she’s the author of the must-have plant-cookbook, called - you guessed it, One Part Plant. Alright, well Jessica might be one part plant, but our chat about plants is one hundred parts awesome!

    You’ll hear:

How eating plants helped her stabilize her crippling Stage IV endometriosis.

    • The final unhealthy food she held onto in her diet for dear life!
    • The first plant-based food she ate that she was VERY proud of (which is hilarious).
    • Why we should talk more about how hard healthy diet change is!
    • Which book, written by a former podcast guest, hands-down changed Jessica’s life.
    • What it’s like raising a plant-based little person! (A child.)
    • Her favorite recipe from the book right this second (and the one that gets the most fan mail).
    • And plenty more!
