For 19 years Michael Barrett served as a Trustee and Chair of the board for the Durham District School Board. But who would know…even though that board is now managing a $1billion budget, the work of trustees goes largely unnoticed, until it doesn't.  Now Michael Barrett is wanting to bring his experience to Kawartha Pine RIdge District School Board as a Trustee for Clarington. Today, he speaks with Exit 425 so he can tell you personally why he thinks he is such a good choice to be Clarinton’s trustee. 

You probably don’t know who Cathy Abraham is, but she is a trustee with Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board which manages nearly 470 million of your dollars, and she is the recently re-elected President of the Ontario Public School Board Association; a group of over 40 school boards representing billions of dollars of taxpayer money. Who is Cathy Abraham? Why does she want to remain as your Clarington school board trustee? Cathy has joined Exit 425 to tell us why she wants to be, is equipped to be, and should be one of Clarington’s trustees on the Kawartha Pine RIdge District School Board.

In this episode, Exit 425 speaks with Diane Lloyd, longtime member and Chair of the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board, Board of Trustees. Diane has recently been acclaimed to the Board of Trustees for KPRDSB to begin her 7th term as a School Board Trustee for the Municipality of Trent Lakes, Township of North Selwyn and  the Township of North Kawartha. For 22 years,  Diane has served as a Trustee, Chairperson, and Vice-Chairperson. Diane knows the system.

Because she is not having to run for election in this campaign, I asked Diane if she would join Exit 425 to talk about one of the least cared about positions in the quadrennial municipal elections. In 2022, it  is being contested in Clarington by 10 people, for 3 trustee seats…but how many voters know much about this job?

John Mutton was the mayor of Clarington from 2000-2006., after one term as Regional Councillor. In 2006 he lost his bid for 3rd term as mayor, but then made an effort to become the chair of the Region of Durham in 2018. John is a resident of Bowmanville and is the owner and CEO of Municipal Solutions. John has a unique perspective to share some context as we prepare for the 2022 municipal election in Clarington.

Chris Borgia is the NDP Candidate for Durham Riding. Chris hears the concerns of the people he is meeting at their door. He understands because he is living with the same challenges...it's personal and he wants to do something about it!

Tony is an independent candidate to represent Durham Riding at Queens Park. Tony has been involved with the struggles with the current and previous governments on the Autism file because he has two sons who have Autism. He knows how challenging it has been so he knows that your issues with education, childcare etc have been just as challenging and he wants to work for you. His bio says that as an independent, he “can work with any government that’s in power to ensure that Durham riding residents get a fair chance at supports and services whilemaintaining fiscal responsibility. I’ll always make sure the Durham riding has a seat at the tableand my door will ALWAYS be open.”
