STEVIE MAITA is just 11 years old. When he was eight years old, he started going to the golf range with his grandpa. That sparked a passion that now has resulted in three years of tournament play. He has two Hole-in-Ones! His first tournament win was at Bing Maloney. He played in 41 tournaments last year that included trips to Texas, Washington, and a lot of stints in San Diego. And this August, Maita will be returning to play in the U.S. Kids' Golf World Championship at Pinehurst. That's right the same Pinehurst that has hosted both the Men's and Women's U.S. Open as well as the Ryder Cup. So how does he do it? That question and more are answered today.

HOST STEVE BUZZARD on Stevie Maita |  "As a former teacher, this is the fun part! Getting to see kids like Stevie enjoy success outside of my classroom. Now usually this part comes when my former students are adults, but Stevie is an exception. Doing something BIG at a YOUNG age. I love it!"

Our Connection |  I had the privilege of being Stevie's P.E. teacher while teaching at St. Michael's. Stevie was also a participant in my Buzzardball Youth Basketball program.

AMY BROWN is the CEO and Founder of Instaphysique. Brown has carved her niche in Sacramento with a unique fitness experience that involves the MEGAFORMER. Instaphysique has two locations in Sacramento and Roseville. For seven years and running, Brown has navigated through a pandemic. Brown was inspired by the Lagree Fitness Method that Amy was introduced to in 2006 while she lived in Southern California. The Sac High graduate took that knowledge and her experience to open Instaphysique seven years. One location in Sacramento quickly became two locations (Roseville). And there is talk of possibly a third location. Entrepreneurs ... I encourage you to tune into this episode. You are going to learn a lot.

HOST STEVE BUZZARD on Amy Brown |  "It is so rewarding to see small business owners like Amy succeed. She has shown that she is a force to be reckoned with in the Capital City. And by that, I mean other business owners should be seeking her out for how to run a successful business."

Our Connection |  I know Amy because of her son Jayden who has been a long-time attender of my basketball summer camp and participant in my winter and summer league. We have had a lot of great conversations about being a small business owner.

BEN LANDERS loves teaching Physical Education. The passion that started in 2007 in South Carolina has developed into something very special. Not only does he teach K-5 P.E. to a school of 500 kids at River Springs Elementary, but he has served many PE teachers across the world with his creation of THE PE SPECIALIST. Developed in 2014, Landers started putting all of his work through video into a business model that offered a membership in 2016. His presence on YouTube and Instagram has produced a large community of PE teachers across the world. The buy-in to Ben is easy. It was for me. Today we get an inside look at Ben's journey. While he may not be from Sacramento, this 16-year P.E. teacher has a lot to offer in today's episode!

HOST STEVE BUZZARD on Ben Landers |  "Having used his material when I was a P.E. teacher in my final five years (2015-2020), it was an honor to have Ben join us to help pull the curtain back on such a fun profession."

Our Connection |  I came across Ben's work in 2015 when I attended a P.E. Conference in Sacramento. Once I logged onto his website at THEPESPECIALIST.COM, I was all in. His material and resources helped me take the P.E. program at St. Michael's in Carmichael, CA to another level.

Just realized that the one question I forgot to ask - being that Ben is from South Carolina ... has he ever been to California?

SAM MAYO knew at a very young age that his life was going to have to do with Disneyland. Loaded with great memories as a kid turned into becoming a cast member for the Happiest Place on Earth in January 2020. So what does that look like? And what is the journey entail? Today we find that out. In fact, Mayo left the lovely confines of Disneyland and California Adventure to move to Maui and work at Aulani, the Disney Resort located in Hawaii. There is a reason for all of it. Let's just say big things are in the near future for Sam.

HOST STEVE BUZZARD on Sam Mayo |  "This is so bucket list for me. The Buzzard family LOVES Disneyland! So to have someone I know who works for them and is so passionate about the company ... I couldn't pass up the opportunity to have this conversation.

Our Connection |  I met Sam when he was a student at St. Ignatius in Sacramento. Essentially just watched him grow up as he moved onto Jesuit High School. It has been fun watching his journey as a Disney Cast Member.

JIM SWANEY is my brother-in-law. Have you figured out the pattern? Three family members. All three are pastors. Jim is Tyler Swaney's father and Craig Olson's father-in-law. Pretty impressive, huh? Yet, their stories are all completely different in terms of how they got to where they are today. For Jim, being the pastor of a church was something he always wanted to do, but it didn't come as quickly as he may have planned. The good news is that his patience and faithfulness paid off when he became the Senior Pastor of Sebastopol Christian Church. His story comes your way.

HOST STEVE BUZZARD on Jim Swaney |  "Jim is a big part of my spiritual journey. When I became a Christian at age 30, Jim was the person I leaned on for answers about the Bible and being a believer. It made a big difference and I am proud to call him family."

Our Connection |  This one is also simple. Jim is my brother-in-law. His wife Lisa is the oldest of  four sisters. The youngest of those sisters is my beautiful wife Kristin. Lucky me!

CRAIG OLSON is my nephew-in-law. Like my nephew Tyler Swaney, Craig is also a pastor. In six years, he will be the Senior Pastor of Crossroads Christian Church in Corona, California. Where Tyler knew he wanted to be a pastor, Craig has a different story. And that's what makes today's conversation so good. A Southern California native, Craig's journey brought him and his family to Northern California where he worked alongside Pastor Brian Hopkins at Bayside Folsom. And his love for Alabama and the Buffalo Bills? We find out how that happened in today's episode.

HOST STEVE BUZZARD on Craig Olson |  "I remember when we found out that Craig was going to be a part of our family when he asked my niece Christina to marry him. We were pumped. I love his energy and he is fun to hang out with. My bucket list item with Craig is to watch an Alabama game with him."

Our Connection |  This one is also simple. Tyler is my nephew-in-law. He married my niece Christina Olson. I had the honor of being the DJ for their wedding in Southern California. It was epic. And the 3.5 years in Northern California were a lot of fun!

TYLER SWANEY is my nephew. At 33, he is currently the Senior Campus Pastor for Bayside Church in Orange County. Tyler's infectious energy and positivity combined with his faith have been the catalyst for this amazing journey. He knew at a young age that this is what he would be doing. He grew up in the church. His father Jim is a pastor. Along with his mother Lisa, Tyler experienced life as a missionary. Today is part of a three-part series where I speak with three family members. They are all pastors. This is a great way to kick it off. I am excited for you to hear today's episode.

HOST STEVE BUZZARD on Tyler Swaney |  "Three things that are consistent through our conversation today. Prayer. People. And the power of relationships. I really hope you are able to take something away from what is a powerful conversation. Safe to say. I am a proud uncle!"

Our Connection |  This one is simple. Tyler is my nephew. His mom Lisa is the oldest of  four sisters. The youngest of those sisters is my beautiful wife Kristin. Lucky me!

JON ROOT is the HYPE guy! He did it successfully for the Oakland A's (as the Pie Guy), Azusa Pacific (he led the Zu Student Fan Section), the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes (Single A for L.A. Dodgers), and the San Jose Sharks. Root, a Del Oro High School Graduate, LOVES sports! That was going to be his career. And then Covid hit. And then the division happened. Jon is unashamed to say that he is conservative in his beliefs. But that hasn't always been the case. And in today's episode, Jon shares his journey through the navigation of getting where he is today where he can openly express views that aren't often shared in the sports world. Root is that voice.

HOST STEVE BUZZARD on Jon Root |  "His talent is top shelf. He has shown that in the work that he has already done. What I see right now is a new chapter that Jon is writing that combines two things that are dear to his heart -- his FAITH and sports."  Our conversation hits THREE areas:

• SEGMENT 1  ★ | TBA
• SEGMENT 2  ★  | TBA
• SEGMENT 3  ★  | TBA

Our Connection |  I was able to meet Jon for the first time when my son started attending Azusa Pacific University. I continued to follow Jon when he starred as the Pie Guy for the Oakland A's in 2012 and his great work with the San Jose Sharks.

EPISODE 106 is a perfect time to catch up with one-half of the Banter Bros Max Buzzard. Father and son are talking sports. We hit it all! Kings, World Cup, Baseball, Las Vegas Raiders, USC, and Sac State (Stingers Up!). Heavy Metal Thunder makes its return with a look at a classic -- Sacramento's own Tesla and their 1986 debut album "Mechanical Resonance."

 Our BANTER hits three areas:

• SEGMENT 1 🏀 ⚽️⚾️ | Max and I kick it off with the City's Team, the Sacramento Kings. Light the beam baby! This year's team is a breath of fresh air. We give our thoughts on the USA's showing in the World Cup and we finish out with baseball with a respectful nod to Dusty Baker and the Houston Astros (still cheaters) and the crazy free agent market.
• SEGMENT 2 🏈 |  The final segment highlights everything football. Las Vegas Raiders, USC (almost made the playoff), and our local squad, the Sac State Hornets 🐝.
• SEGMENT 3 🤘🏼| HEAVY METAL THUNDER is back! Today highlights Tesla and their iconic debut album, "Mechanical Resonance."

Our Connection |  Max is my son. Haha. That one was easy!

SCOTT ABBOTT heads up an amazing team  at the Sacramento Running Association that organizes the California International Marathon. The CIM takes place the first Sunday in December and has been doing so successfully for 39 years. And this year is set to break all records with over 10,000 runners to toe the start line in Folsom, California. Scott is a decorated runner himself and has made that world his career. Sacramento is fortunate to have someone like Scott at the helm. You will love today's conversation covering a lot of fun topics!

HOST STEVE BUZZARD on Scott |  "Scott is a tremendous leader and is the catalyst for the running community in Sacramento. He has found a way to bring the running world together on all levels.. And then on top of that ... he is in charge of the CIM. One word. Impressive!"  Our conversation hits TWO areas:

• SEGMENT 1  ★ | is devoted to the 39th running of the California International Marathon. Scott also gives us some insight on the history and the details behind this amazing marathon featured in Sacramento.
• SEGMENT 2  ★  | focuses on Scott's work with the Sacramento Running Association. We then find out the personal side of Scott. His upbringing. How he found the love for running. Dr. Pepper. And Fantasy Baseball!

Our Connection |  Scott and I go way back. We met at St. Michael's where we taught together. As Scott became a part of the Sacramento Running Association, he invited me to call races. That started with my first CIM Finish Line assignment in 2015. It's been a great run! And fun fact ... I was the DJ for Scott and his wife Katie's wedding!
