This week I'm talking with Tarris Batiste who wrote the book "Don't Let it Smoke You: How to Create a Nontoxic Relationship with Cannabis".
We talk about the influence of high school basketball players in starting to smoke weed, smoking (and getting in trouble for smoking) as a college football athlete, and ultimately Tarris' evolving relationship with weed. At some point he realized that maybe cannabis wasn't a great addition to his life and his advice for anyone out there - "don't let it smoke you".

**Friendly reminder/disclaimer** I am not suggesting everyone use cannabis with exercise. Cannabis is definitely not for everyone. But if you're curious about your own use, understanding more about why people use cannabis with exercise, or want to learn about the latest research in the field, you're in the right place. Make good choices out there.
This week you'll hear my conversation with a former student of mine - she was in two of my classes and always did projects in my classes about cannabis. G is a go-getter who started massage school right after undergrad - so it was fun to learn more about her and her journey.

Happy 420! It's a big day in stoner culture today, so I thought I'd say a quick hello and talk about some creative ways I have thought about pairing cannabis with movement.
*Friendly reminder out there - weed is not for everyone - so don't feel pressured to get high today just because of the holiday. You're awesome and can totally still enjoy some of these activities sober.

Welcome back! This week I'm psyched to be talking with Kevin Kafka from the High Rollerz - the "dopest jiu jitsu show on the planet". The High Rollerz is a gym in Las Vegas NV for training and they have monthly events where people compete under the influence of cannabis.

This was actually the first interview I ever conducted! Dupree was a student of mine at Humboldt State University and he is now an amateur MMA fighter. We talked about our shared strict backgrounds as young athletes, the culture of weed in MMA and UFC, and using weed to help manage pain, improve appetite (after years of weight cutting), his use of weed to help with recovery from training, and when he doesn't use cannabis with his training or in preparation for competition.
Oh - and he also blew my mind by telling me about the High Rollerz - a cannabis-infused martial arts competition - so I hope this is the first of many more conversations with folks in the martial arts community!

This week I'm talking to my new cannabis & exercise researcher friend, Dr. Jonny Lisano. He and I conducted survey studies exploring cannabis use with exercise around the same time -which was new to both of us- and we share our results! You'll also get insight into cellular exercise physiology research he has conducted on the topic with colleagues at Northern Colorado University.
Dr. Lisano will be a regular guest where we'll review cannabis and exercise research together for journal clubs - so keep an eye out for those!

This week I'm talking to my friend, Danny, who picked up running when he moved up to Humboldt County a few years ago and quickly became an avid long distance runner. We talked about his experience of becoming a runner, how he figured out the best cannabis doses and products for his runs, and why he enjoys it all.
Danny is a co-owner of the South G Kitchen food truck outside of the Redwood Curtain Brewery in Arcata, which - in my opinion - has some of the best food in town.
He's also a fellow Midwesterner - originally from Michigan - so you might hear more of our Midwest accents. :)

This week I'm talking with Anna Symonds - former elite rugby player and current advocate and educator about cannabis use in sport. We talked about her experience with cannabis as an athlete, our shared goal of destigmatizing cannabis use, and all of the amazing organizations she's working with.

Welcome to our first episode of Exploring Cannabis and Exercise!
This week, I'm talking with Dr. Angela Bryan - professor at University of Colorado - Boulder who is doing the best research right now in cannabis and exercise. In this episode, you'll hear about how she and her team have worked around federal regulations in cannabis research and the research she's currently up to now.
