It is about giving away things that you don't need, you don't normally use or even things that are not helpful to you. It does sound as if it is only related to material stuff ,but it can be also connected to our spiritual well-beings. It implies that, if you are not happy with what you are surrouned by, or you are enged in, then try to get rid of the things that are holding you back.
