Game-Changing Business Moves!
I sat down with my friend and Chief core group member Patricia Beitler in this session. Patricia is the founder and CEO of Velocitas. Velocitas is a full-service, multicultural interactive marketing, and public relations agency that offers a 360-degree approach to your marketing needs. Veolcitas was identified as the Most Innovative Digital Communications Agency – in the USA by Corporate Vision magazine.
Patricia is a seasoned marketing executive and entrepreneur who launched Velocitas in 2002. When deciding on a name, she wanted something that represented her business style: fast-paced, efficient, and always two steps ahead of the game. Velocitas, a Latin word meaning speed, swiftness, and velocity, was the perfect fit.
As President of the award-winning agency, Patricia manages client relationships and oversees all the firm’s campaigns and projects. Patricia brings a wealth of experience in healthcare and professional services marketing, including law practices and technology companies. Her strengths include working with clients on brand development, marketing strategy, Internet marketing, strategic introductions, and collaborating with designers to produce all types of creative collateral material, photo assets, and videos, in addition to building long-lasting relationships with clients, media members and her team of social media experts and PR representatives. Patricia is deeply involved in the South Florida business community and actively participates in and sits on the board of various legal, finance, and non-profit organizations. Patricia acquired her MBA from the University of Miami in 2004, specializing in international business.
Patricia and I talked about how the post-pandemic environment and the economic climate allowed her to rethink her business, build deeper client engagement relationships, transform her team, and reset the organization's teaming and mentoring culture.
Patricia highlights critical elements to rebuilding and resetting when external factors are impacting your business:
1. Finding the opportunity to connect more deeply with clients and collaborate with them as partners. This deeper connection became even more critical and revealed unobvious opportunities in the pre-pandemic environment.
2. Reframe the organization's focus and time - instead of running to events and meetings, they could truly focus on the business, and the agency could flourish more than ever.
3. Finding the right fit hybrid in office, on-site, and remote work models became differentiating. Velocitas was hybrid/remote work before the pandemic; however, they were able to truly restructure and organize the agency in a way that made it more efficient than ever.
4. Resetting their team development and mentoring was critical to the shift of growth, and putting it at the core of their team culture
It was super encouraging to hear from Patricia, knowing the ups and downs and how her mindset of perseverance pushed her to reset and rebuild her organization to launch into its next stage of greatness!
I hope you take something away from this conversation!

This January 2023 will be the 20th anniversary of Moneyball: The Art of Winning an Unfair Game. This is a nonfiction book by Michael Lewis published in 2003 by W. W. Norton. Lewis holds a master’s degree in economics and made his writing debut with the acclaimed Liar’s Poker (1989), based on his experience working for the investment bank Salomon Brothers. This background prepared him for Moneyball, a book about how statistics is applied to baseball in a method known as sabermetrics. A movie adaptation was released in 2011 starring Brad Pitt.
And most recently, Michael Lewis was interviewed by Freakanomics Radio about the anniversary of the book and his recent projects. As I listened to Dubner and Lewis in the conversation, I realized that the challenge we all face in our business and career is not just disruption, like Moneyball did with baseball.
Have a great week!
A career of any shape, size, or style is NOT a solo endeavor. Today, I am talking to Rachel Ing. She is a Deloitte alumnus just like me, and we got to work together for several years at Deloitte. But more than that, we have been close for many years outside of Deloitte. The conversation around how important relationships, mentorships, and sponsorships are through our journey has brought us together today.
The roles of people in and around your life are your network of relationships that you lean on throughout your life, inside and outside your career path! Whether you are a corporate warrior, contractor, freelancer, entrepreneur, or student, your network of relationships is an asset to you.
We discuss the value of finding a role in consulting, how the relationships carry you through, what a good mentor does for you, and what sponsorship means. What is the value of returning to business school, the road to get there, and how does it expand your network of relationships?
I hope you get a lot from this conversation! Please share it with your undergrads or young professionals navigating career choices and decisions in grad school.
As always, thanks for listening! Don't forget to share, rate, and review!
I recently stumbled upon an Instagram group of slides that were taken from the Twitter feed of Sahail Bloom (@sohailbloom) where he put together some slides on a recent study of where we spend our time and how much time by age. It is eye-opening to consider these time allocations by the buckets of the following:
1. Time spent with Parents and Siblings
2. Time spent with Friends
3. Time spent with Children
4. Time spent with your partner
5. Time spent with co-workers
6. Time spent alone
The study was done by : Our World Data and is called the American Time Use Study
I hope you take something away from these tidbits. I did. And Just One small ASK:

I love gadgets, life hacks, and apps that provide me with data about myself or help me track my goals, workouts, or task. I have a lot of them. Besides my apple watch and phone, I have a Garmin for my bike, a Garmin watch, an Oura ring, and a wahoo bike trainer. Then there are the apps I use on top of these wonderful little gadgets.
Of all the apps and gadgets I use for tracking health-related activities and goals. There are 3 that stand out among all others.
First, the oura ring this little ring is not cheap, it is small and wears well, but the real power is in the data it collects and the information it shares with you. It tracks your heart rate throughout the day and evening, it checks your heart rate variability, and then utilizes these markers along with the movement to provide you with insights on your sleep, heart rate, and activity. The scoring systems and visualization are easy to understand, and the insights it provides you on how to improve your sleep, how rested you are today, and cumulatively can help you adjust what works outs or activities you should strive to achieve. https://ouraring.com/
Second, is the app called Wild.ai, which is an app for women who want to stay active or set training goals, and improve their overall health and wellness. This app is an AI-driven app that through your inputs and connections with your devices' data can help you better understand and track your menstrual cycle, and your workouts, and provides insights on how hard you should train, by the timing of the cycle when you need more carbs and protein increases to support your level of workouts. The use of all this data is personalized to your personal calendar within the app. Recently, Wild.ai also add workout plans and coaching that you can utilize and integrate into your personalization settings for more insights into food/fuel and hydration recommendations at all stages of your monthly cycle.
Third, is also an app called InsideTracker. This app is good for nudging you on making lifestyle adjustments based on the bloodwork and integration of your workout apps like Strava or apple health. The bloodwork can be done through your regular doctor or by ordering through the Inside Tracker blood panels. This intelligence app not only utilizes your bloodwork but also if you have a 23 & me profile that you have completed you can download your 23 & me report and upload it into Inside Tracker for personalized recommendations based on the DNA results that 23 & me provides. This little tool has been a game changer in helping me keep track of cholesterol and thyroid markers. It provides me with recommendations for how to manage to keep my iron in the normal range as I have lower iron scores using food or supplements.
I hope you will check these apps and sites out, or check out the Oura ring. These game changers are really giving me insights that help me keep track of my health and continue to work towards my goals in sports and outdoor activities, and just getting life done with the greatest level of energy I possible.

This episode took me a while to produce because there is so much information to share about what I have learned while pursuing a healthy physical and mental life! I tried to boil it down to four primary areas of lessons and things to consider. Being able to show up for work, family, and any pursuit you decide to take on requires you to be aware of what you want to achieve and how to take care of yourself.
My goal is to feel strong and healthy and stay in tune with how stress affects my life and emotional wellness. And generally, I want to wake up and feel well each day. The benefits of movement, strength, and engaging in a community of physical wellness for better overall health have been instrumental in my journey. I have developed an ability to quiet the noise of life when it is chaotic using movement. Along with mental stillness, I have learned resilience through sports and active goal-setting in movement/training. Hitting roadblocks along the way means there have been innumerable lessons and testing of my strength.
The four significant areas that have changed my life as I focus on my overall health are topics we could explore individually, but here they are:
So I hope you join me on the journey and maybe even consider messaging me or letting me know if this topic was helpful to you!
Thanks for listening! If you don't mind leaving a rating or a review, I would really appreciate it.
Are you a sleep procrastinator? Are you choosing to stay up too late and put off bedtime and getting caught in a self-induced trap of pushing off sleep in order to "feel" in control of your time? With all the approach stress of the holiday season.
Maybe consider grabbing more sleep, making it a priority, or practicing some sleep preparation. The Wall Street Journal had an article this past week that got my attention after speaking to our last guest Dr. Tara Pasha. In a recent study by the University of Arkansas and published in the Journal of Clinical Psychology, the average self-reported time people spent delaying bedtime was 1hr. 49mins. among patients who had sought help for behavioral health issues. According to the CDC's study in 2020, more than a third of US adults report getting less than 7hrs of sleep per night. We all know that it isn't always about quantity but also about the quality of sleep. There are many factors that impact the quality of your sleep.
I wanted to understand the quality of sleep I was getting because I have never really been one to sleep past 6-6:30 am, ever! That's where my focus on improving my sleep has been in my health journey. I used a device called the Oura ring to help me. Link Here. It has been enlightening to see how food, alchol, and exercise/movement all help my sleep quality.
Sleep is linked to all sorts of health benefits and the lack or worse the poor quality of sleep can have even greater negative effects on our long-term health and mental wellness. So this Monday I encourage you to start your self-care off this holiday season by getting some snooze time in.
Even though it's Halloween - Go get some sleep!
As always thank you for listening. Drop me a DM on Instagram to let me know your thoughts on sleep or if you want some of my tips and tricks.
