Though June 15 is the official, albeit arbitrary, date set by Governor Newsom for the reopening, the emergency may not be over. He has refused to end the state of emergency, which empowers him to bring back lockdowns and emergency measures if he sees fit. This is an unprecedented power-grab even for a Democratic governor.
