Takeaways from the Memphis Express Home Opener
The turnout was much less than I was hoping but the cold, wind, and rain likely had a lot to do with that. Combine the weather with the poor showing in week 1 and you can see why people may not have wanted to come out.
The non-football activities were a huge hit. The Tailgate Competition brought out a lot of great tailgaters and the Silent Disco brought a great crowd.
Hackenberg was disappointing. The team played better overall including Hackenberg. I think the blame falls equally among all aspects. The offensive line, namely the LT, didn’t perform well, play calling was lackluster, coaching was questionable, and receivers were dropping passes.
Zac Stacy was a beast becoming the first AAF player to rush for over 100 yards in a single game. Once again, our defense showed they are elite shutting out the Arizona Hotshots for almost three full quarters. Channing Stribling is showing that he is a strong candidate to land on an NFL roster next season.
News
The Alliance received a major investment from Carolina Hurricanes’ owner Tom Dundon. With his $250 million investment, the league won’t have to worry about funding for a long time. With Dundon taking the role of Chair of the Board, it should add a lot of knowledge to the league leadership.
Roster Updates
The Memphis Express signed RB Sherman Badie and Mohamed Seisay and released RB Rajion Neal and DB Malik Boynton.
