Kelvin is a versatile offensive player. His main position is RB where he can run around or through defenders. He also has been training as a slot receiver and plenty of experience on kick and punt returns.

We’re getting closer to the NFL cuts. Over the next few weeks, I think we can expect some major signings. There will be a lot of players that are NFL caliber that will be looking to develop their skills in the AAF.

Trent Richardson officially signs with the AAF after getting out of his CFL contract. This was announced in a bit of a disappointing press conference but there you go.

The CFL is scared. The team owners. Not really the players. CFL players were among the first to sign with the AAF.

This has some CFL executives worried. Wally Buono, VP of Football Operations for the BC Lions believe that players cut from the NFL will look to the AAF and XFL rather than the CFL. Which makes sense. Watching AAF games will be much easier than CFL giving these players better exposure to the fans. Playing in the States will help get them noticed by NFL teams.

Not only that, they stand to make more money in the AAF. The average salary for CFL players is $91k with a league minimum of $42-52k. These numbers can vary based on which article you read. All players in the AAF will get a 3-year $250k contract that tops out at $100k the final year. This averages out to $83k a year. Well higher than the CFL minimum. Now, AAF players can make more based on popularity and other factors we discussed in episode 2 which will likely push the average over $91k. Salaries probably won’t reach the heights of the CFL for a couple years, but for most players the AAF is a better option.

Dewayne Beckford

One word to describe this guy: unforgiving. On the field, he is violent and a scary dude that’s coming to put a hit on you. Off the field, he enjoys yoga, meditating, and spending time with his family. He is the embodiment of the balance between physical and mental fitness.

Eli Walker

Eli doesn’t have much experience playing football but his drive and passion could make up for that. As a raw athlete, he is a triathlete and placed 6th in his age group at the Triathalon World Champ Qualifiers. He’ll be at the Atlanta combine so we’ll get to see that athleticism on display.

Recent article from ESPN highlights aspects of the AAF that point towards its success. All major sports have compliment leagues that can develop young talent. The AAF could be that for the NFL. NFL teams are working closely with AAF personnel.

Christian is a DB from Henderson State University with some experience in indoor football with the Dallas Marshalls. He is a sure tackler who has great awareness and play recognition.

Singletary is a legendary Hall of Fame Linebacker that played with the famous Monsters of the Midway.

Garrett Berg

Garrett is currently training with One on One Kicking out of Birmingham, AL. He attended Ouachita Baptist University which is a Division II school in Arkansas. He averaged 25th in the country with an average punt of just under 50 yards and he hasn’t stopped training since.

Trent Richardson, former Alabama star running back, announces that he’ll sign with Alliance Birmingham. This brings some legitimacy to the league, not that it really needs it. But it’s awesome to see a bigger name commit to playing in the league.

Johnny Manziel ruins another football team! The Hamilton Tiger-Cats traded Manziel to the Alouettes in favor of two other quarterbacks. Now, however, those QBs have decided to try their luck in the Alliance of American Football.

Potential Team Names

These are some of the names that have been discussed in the Alliance Memphis Facebook group. The jury’s still out on some of the names but Michelle does enjoy the Blues and Zombies. Contracts

Players will be signed to a three -year, $250k contract. The can also get bonuses based on performance both on the field and with fan interaction. On top of all that, they can also get health benefits and scholarships for post-football college and trade school education.

Combine

Update! Houston is filled so if you haven’t registered, it’s too late to go to the combine. But don’t give up! You can still get signed to a team but it may be just more difficult. Over the next few episodes, we plan on highlighting some players so reach out if you want to be featured.

If you’re listening to this then you’ve probably heard the news: Professional football is returning to the 901! Early last month, Super Bowl MVP Hines Ward announced that the third city to get an AAF team would be Memphis. Now. If you’re like me, you might be thinking just what is the Alliance of American Football? I heard that the XFL would be attempting a comeback but hadn’t heard anything about this. But after looking into, I got excited. The Alliance appears to be making great decisions as they build the league. They have brought on several former NFL personnel that brings the expertise needed to make this a success.
