Casper Police Department responded to a call for service regarding a disturbance. Officers spoke with the victim on scene, who made allegations that she was the victim of domestic violence. Officers attempted to make contact with the suspect, 26-year-old Trae Spurlock. The victim needed to re-enter the residence and officers accompanied her. Spurlock was sitting on the balcony with his rifle on the ground. Officers attempted to negotiate with Spurlock to step off the balcony and away from the rifle. Spurlock was being placed under arrest for domestic assault when he attempted to exit the balcony door towards the rifle. A taser was deployed but it failed; an officer fired seven rounds from his sidearm and struck Spurlock six times. He was later pronounced dead.
