  • Our Savior came with Humility

The world runs on performance and appearance.   But Jesus taught us another way.

Humility isn’t a word you see often on Christmas décor. Peace? Check out the throw pillows. Joy? All over the home decor. Flipping through a gift catalog I received earlier this year, I saw a Christmas decoration sign that read:  Everyone is an innkeeper deciding whether or not there’s room for Christ. Wow.

It takes an act of humility to let Christ in.

Maybe that’s why it’s hard for some people to truly accept Jesus. It’s a mental, physical, and heart posture of worship where we kneel down like the shepherds and foreign kings to adore Him and acknowledge that He is in fact Lord. The good news is, Jesus makes this easy because He lived a life of humility first.

Humility. This one word is so deeply rooted in the advent of Christ, His birth, life, death and resurrection, that it’s worth meditating on as we celebrate the birth of our Savior and live beyond it. Maybe it also deserves a sign on the front porch.

  • We all need a Savior

The single biggest challenge of season of Christmas is to feel your need for a Savior.  The truth is you can’t solve your problem through an act of the will, because the perversion of the the will is the very reason you need a Savior.  You need help!  You need the intervention of a loving God who will shape you anew.  You need a a Savior!

  • You Will Soar on Wings like Eagles

Are you ready for take-off?  I hope so, because today’s key text from Isaiah promises nothing less than renewed strength from God – which will lead to the struggling people of God being lifted up and soaring like a swig and powerful eagle.

It was a message and promise of hope to weary and despondent exhales living in Babylon.  They had spent a half of entry living away from their homeland.  There were Israelites who felt a deep sense of being abandoned, hopeless, isolated and tired.  They felt that there was no way out and no way up.  If this great, glorious, and mighty God could carry the whole of Israel (old and young) out of Egypt on eagles’ wings, could He not do the same with the exiles in Babylon?  Had the exiles forgotten the incomparable greatness, power, and strength of their faithful God?

I wonder is we forget how infinitely great and above all God’s powers are?  I think we do!  We forget that His power is so huge and that this God is our God, our loving Shepherd, our Father who is in heaven, and our caring Savior.  Some of our biggest problems and anxieties come when we simply forget who God is.

Hope lifts us up!  Hope helps us soar!  Stretching our wings and trusting the One who knows how we can fly is critical to confidence when we believe we are weak.

  • YOU Will Renew Their Strength

We live in a world that prides itself in all its accomplishments.  We live in a world that prides itself in being able to do anything it sets its mind to do.  We have come to believe that we can do almost anything.  But where is your strength? Is it in the things of the world?  Of course, the answer of the child of God is, the answer of the today’s text.  It is the answer that we confess that our strength is in Jehovah, our faithful, covenant God.

The idea of strength and that we are renewed in strength, implies that there is a weakness.   When we see our weakness, when we are growing despondent, when we see how bad things are, the idea is not that we should keep looking at ourselves, and grope around in darkness, as it were.

Then comes the wonderful message of our text.  The wonderful message that those who look to the Lord will have their strength renewed.  He is the One we should turn to.

Look to the Lord for renewed strength.  Look to the everlasting God, the creator of the heavens and the earth. He never faints.  He never grows weary.  God doesn’t get tired.

  • Will You Wait on The Lord

John Milton said “Waiting upon God can be one of the most trying of all trials.  However, remember a ‘trial’ is a test and the greater the battle the greater the victory.”  There are people that are mad a God.  There are people waiting for God to do something in their situation.  There are people waiting for healing, confirmation, restoration, encouragement…for God to turn a dark cloud inside our journey and let the light of Jesus Christ shine bright.  Anyone waiting on God today?

In this message we hope to find a few of the blessings of waiting on God.   Waiting on God and moving when He tells us is a sign of obedience. He blesses those that are sensitive to His guidance and carrying out what He wants for our lives.

  • You Will see His Strength

Before you can even begin to see past your weariness, you must first be ready to embrace the strength that only God can give.  Isaiah is going to give a nation a few verses for strength in fatigue and the place of strengthlessness.  The worries of life can be burdensome when you rely on your own strength. So how do you persevere through tough times without breaking down?  The key is to rely on God’s strength.

From exile, the Israelites complained that aged had forgotten or ignored them.  The prophet Isaiah answers that the Lord is the everlasting God – there is no time He does not inhabit.  He is the Creator of the ends of the earth – there is no place He does not fill.  He will not grow weary or tired because there is no end to His strength.  His understanding no one can fathom – there is no end to His wisdom.

God was not ignoring them and He is not ignoring you.  He has been here all the time accomplishing His purposes, undeterred by time, space or human weakness.

Human strength has limits; even the young, the strongest among us, grow tired and weary.  But there is no limit to His strength, and those who wait on Him will gain new strength.

God is promising the returning exiles His renewed strength for the journey if they would just trust Him.

  • Life of Joseph pt. 7: The Epilogue

As we come to the end of this series, everything comes back around to the key verse to this series – Genesis 50:19.  You see, God cared about Joseph all along and could have stopped the evil from happening to him.  Why did God let happen? Joesph has the answer:  “You intended harm to me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives. “

God always sees the bigger picture, but rarely can we see the forest through the trees.  Joseph has the privilege of seeing the bigger picture and sees that he had to go through all this stuff so that he could be in the position he’s in now.  God used the evil that Joseph’s did to him for the greater good – so thousands of people could survive.  God would choose to raise up Joseph to this position through a dream, and the nation of Israel would be led into Egypt where they would again suffer before finally being introduced to God on a much more personal level.  God’s hand was always right where it should be – introducing us to Himself.  What better purpose but that?

  • Life of Joseph Pt. 5: Family Reunion

In this episode of Joseph’s life, we witness the emotional and dramatic reunion of his family after 20 long years of separation. It’s a messy, complicated moment filled with plenty of drama and intrigue. As outsiders looking in, it may be challenging to grasp the key takeaway from this part of the story.

However, it's important to remember that the Bible doesn’t focus on perfect people, but rather on a God who walks with people through their highs and lows. This story illustrates how, even after two decades of brokenness and conflict, God used every circumstance to reunite and heal a fractured family in order to keep His promises to His people.

Maybe you're in the midst of conflict, still waiting for healing and restoration. How do we trust God in the middle of it all? What does faith look like in hard times? How long will the struggle last? By reflecting on Joseph’s family reunion, we might find guidance and hope for these very questions.

  • Life of Joseph Pt. 4: Rise to Power

It came to pass” means “Time is passing by”.  For Joseph it meant older, weaker, abandoned, and rejected.  God’s appointed time is on His timetable.  God had an appointed time for Joseph.  God has an appointed time for you.  God had an appointed time for him to remember his assignment.  Every God assignment has a God appointed time.  God has an appointed time for the puzzle pieces to come together.  Joseph points to God and not himself.  God always prevails when He gives out assignments.  Do you always see your assignment when God is handing them out?

  • Life of Joseph Pt.3: Potiphar's House

I love the words of Danish Philosopher Soren Kierkegaard, “Now, with God’s help, I will become myself.”  Joseph, the man in the center of today’s scripture, is forged into the person God wants him to be while a slave, while being tempted, while in prison.  In or out of prison, God’s will is for you to be a man or woman of high character. That is who Joseph is becoming… “Now, with God’s help, I will become myself.”

Joseph did not give in to temptation.  He stayed firm in his conviction before his master and his God.  The temptation was real for many reasons.   Nobody would know, he might end up dead or in prison to resist, loss of status… yet he stayed firm in his convictions.  Joseph knew who he was. He belonged to God.  As his world crumbled around him, his singular desire was to be a person of integrity before God.  God’s purpose continues to prevail.
