In the latest episode of the Fairy Whispering podcast, I welcome Melissa Larose, a PhD student from the University of Aberdeen. Melissa shares her experiences, insights and passion for researching faerie belief and folklore.
Melissa describes her encounters with a brownie—an impish yet helpful fairy—living in her flat. Melissa discusses how, despite modern scepticism, many people still adhere to traditional practices, leaving offerings for fairies to gain their goodwill.
In a particularly striking encounter in an English park, Melissa and a friend unexpectedly came across a green mist and a winged fairy. We discuss how these magical experiences often happen when we’re open to them, suggesting a deeper connection to the world around us.
We explore the significance of fairy circles and the cultural beliefs surrounding them, learning how different cultures across the globe maintain a connection to fairy lore through rituals and offerings—highlighting a universal bond to nature and the supernatural.
Melissa describes her special connection to the Cruikshank Botanical Gardens, and its serene arboretum, which she describes as a 'fairyland’ and finds inspiration for her fairy poetry and senses the resident nature spirits.
I’m sure you will be captivated by her stories of her fairy experiences and her passion for researching fairies!

In this magical episode of the Fairy Whispering Podcast, I’m thrilled to dive into the world of sound art and opera with the talented Lucinda Guy. Lucinda's latest creation, inspired by Robert Herrick’s 17th-century poem "The Fairy Temple," is set to premiere at Tête à Tête, the UK's leading festival of new opera, on Tuesday, September 23rd at the Cockpit Theatre in London.
Lucinda's artistic practice engages in ritual, participatory music, and improvisation. She often intertwines hymns and traditional melodies, delving into themes of landscape and the sacred. As a researcher at Transtechnology Research, University of Plymouth, she explores the intersection of automation with radio art, pushing the boundaries of sound.
Herrick's poem, the temple "with small bones instead of walls," conjures visions of enchanting and hedonistic rituals under the "silver light of snails." The poem's oscillation between the sublime and the ridiculous creates a rich, magical backdrop for Lucinda's opera.
This production promises to transport the audience into the captivating realm of fairies, featuring performers who reside near Dean Prior, where Herrick served as vicar. The opera not only includes recordings from this mystical location but also showcases fresh live music that brings the spirit of the fairies to life.
I’ve had the pleasure of knowing Lucinda since 2021, having participated in her audio workshops on Dartmoor for her creative project Skylark FM radio. Those experiences ignited my passion for sound and led me on a journey into podcasting.
In our conversation, we recorded at the very church where Herrick preached, nestled in the enchanting setting of Dean Prior, Devon. Lucinda describes the church's remarkable acoustics, which blend the sounds of bustling traffic into ethereal audio ghosts that resemble choral harmonies. We even engaged in a playful call-and-response, with delightful results woven into the episode. The mingling of external noises and these spectral echoes crafts a hauntingly beautiful atmosphere as we explore Herrick's poetry and the delightful world of his fairies.
To catch a fairy whisper you have to listen closely, listen with me…

In this episode of the Fairy Whispering Podcast, I have the pleasure of chatting with Anastasia, host of the Goblin Kwain podcast (and my co-host on What the Fairy? Podcast). Together, we explore the magical realms of the paranormal and share our experiences with faerie folk and otherworldly beings. Anastasia recounts her spooky childhood encounter with the ghostly figure of a melancholy man, who was lurking in a storm drain, sparking her fascination with the supernatural.
As we examine the significance of liminal spaces, she discusses how her interactions with the spirit world have shaped her understanding of the unseen. An encounter with an elderly man playing the fiddle at midnight on church steps, near a fairy ring of mushrooms, left her questioning whether she had glimpsed beyond the veil once more. We consider whether he could have been human, faerie, or something in between.
We also talk about the importance of leaving offerings for the faeries and the delightful experience Anastasia had during Lughnasadh, when she felt an acknowledgement from the spirit realm through the sound of church bells. Anastasia shares her dream encounter with a hostile winged faerie and a friendly blobfish-like creature, which gave her a new perspective on the faerie realm. This episode is a must-listen for anyone interested in the paranormal, folklore, or simply the magic that exists just beyond our perception.

My first guests for this new season are Steven and Evan Strong, a father and son, who are ground-breaking independent researchers exploring our Forgotten Origin.
In this episode, they discuss their experiences with Yowies, Australia's version of Bigfoot, which they refer to as the Forest People. They also share stories about the tribes of little people who have gone into hiding due to persecution by European settlers.
Steven and Evan are descended from Australia's original people and work closely with them to bring forward new wisdom for this era to benefit humanity, Planet Earth, and all beings that coexist with us.
Thanks to Evan and Steven for preparing a fascinating presentation, which you can view in the video version of this episode on Spotify and my YouTube channel. They reveal many things about Yowies and little people, including their metaphysical abilities, such as appearing and reappearing—some elders of the original peoples possess these powers too. In fact, one elder disappeared right before Graham Hancock’s eyes, much to his amazement!
Steven and Evan also have an exciting conference - Awakening; One Step Forward - scheduled for September, where sacred information from a prophecy about our origins and the way forward for humanity and Earth will be revealed for the first time. If their previous work is any indication, I am certain this will be incredible. Links to this event and some of their other work are included in this episode description and show notes on the podcast blog: www.thefairywhispering.com
Enjoy this episode—it's a fascinating conversation that I truly enjoyed, and a positive step into the new season, bringing peace and hope to you and the world.
