To become a Christian in the first century, as it must should today as well, meant a radical change in an individual's life.

If you're a follower of Christ, then your life should be different from those around you ... radically (2 Cor 5:17).

It would be a small thing if all the Christian life entailed was a decision, simply a prayer said and nothing more; something done in the privacy of your home, perhaps with a few friends.

But Jesus commands more than that.

During the time of Hosea, Israel, from the outside looking in, was in a good place. They were at peace and it was a time where they were enjoying the fruit of their labour.

However, on a spiritual level, they were openly worshiping other Gods and their faith was shallow.

Their focus was on the externals, going through the motions, doing the "right" things, but their commitment level was just not there.

God sent Hosea to bring the message that "my people are destroyed from lack of knowledge."

Even though they had God's Word, they chose to focus their lives on that which could be seen. But spiritually, they were far from God.

Pastor Darrell takes a look at Canada and the Canadian evangelical Church and discusses some comparisons between the time of Hosea and today.
