Paul’s exhortation to Timothy is to be a useful vessel for His glory. Last week, we learned that what he was to flee and pursue in order to be pure. This week, we learn what it means to live with grace in the face of opposition.

As Christians, our families should display the joy found in God. That starts with our own hearts and radiates into the relationships we have with others!

The sharpest tools in God’s service are the men and women who pursue living pure. In 2 Timothy 2:22, more than sexual purity and not merely for youth, verse 22 tells us now to "flee from youthful lusts and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.”

God tells you, through Paul, that the tool who will be used greatly by God will be the believer who seeks to have a cleansed life, a sanctified heart, a strong desire to be used of God, and a determination to do the works of God.

Second Timothy continues in chapter two with an incredible challenge about false teaching—how dangerous it is and what it says about you. Paul actually refers to an amazing event from the Old Testament in Numbers 16, and you will be surprised by how current and practical that event is to me and you.

Paul teaches that if certain sinful behavior continues unrepentant in the life of someone who claims to be a Christian, it actually indicates by that outward and obvious behavior, that they are not saved.

In 2 Timothy Paul changes subjects--he has been exhorting and encouraging Timothy to grow bold about the Gospel, God’s Word, and sound doctrine and to not be ashamed of the Apostle Paul himself, even though there is great pressure from persecution.

How do you pick a church? How would Christ pick a church and what would He say about this church? And why should we even ask this question? Why is this a crucial question for today and beyond? Because along with many other reasons, it’s healthy for all of us to take a hard look at ourselves to make sure we’re on the right path.
