You’ve been hearing the grim reports for years now: Social Security is headed for big trouble as Baby Boomers retire and folks live longer. But could a bill that’s wending its way through Congress be just the fix that’s needed? The Social Security 2100 Act was first introduced in 2014 and then again in 2017, but never received a vote. So now the bill, that supporters say could keep Social Security in the black indefinitely, may have new life. Today on Moneywise, Rob West and Steve Moore have details. Next, they answer your questions at (800) 525-7000 and [email protected] about the following:
-Our home is 40 years old and we don’t have a mortgage. We need to upgrade the windows and re-do the bathrooms. But with estimates more than $25,000, we’re wondering how to pay for it.
-My wife and I were married less than a year ago and we’re looking at purchasing our first life insurance policy. Our agent recommended a whole life policy. What do you think about that?
-We purchased our first home 17 years ago. We now use it as a rental, and we have about 13 years left on the mortgage. Is there any reason we should sell it? Or is holding onto it a good investment idea?
-My rental property has about $95,000 left on the mortgage. If I continue paying the monthly, I’ll pay about $35,000 in interest. But if I apply our current tithe to the mortgage payment, I’ll pay the house off in 2 years. Can I use tithe money to pay off the mortgage?
