About Orvin Kimbrough:
Orvin Kimbrough, a husband, father, and man of faith, has navigated a remarkable journey from a challenging childhood in East Saint Louis to a prominent role in Saint Louis's financial sector. As the Chairman of the Board and CEO of Midwest BankCentre, Saint Louis' second-largest locally owned bank, he has significantly broadened access to capital for local families and businesses.
Born in East Saint Louis to a drug-addicted mother who died when he was eight years old, author Orvin Kimbrough chronicles his early years through foster care, orphanages, physical and sexual abuse, hunger, and poverty in his book Twice Over A Man. He could have joined a gang. He could have become a teen father. He could have fallen into drugs and the violence of the streets. He could have ended up in prison. He could have been shot dead.
But he rose above it all to become a prosperous leader in the Saint Louis business and nonprofit communities. Instead of succumbing to life on the streets, Kimbrough sought the one thing that would redeem him from that dismal, expected fate-education. This is the story of a young man who, despite all the forces that worked against him, fiercely determined to make a better life for himself and is resolute about showing others the way.

With nearly four decades of experience in both ministry and business, Pastor Scott Purkey brings a wealth of practical wisdom and a fresh perspective to the saturated conversation on leadership. In this episode, Pastor Scott shares his non-traditional journey to ministry, the importance of setting boundaries, and how prioritizing rest and rhythm transformed both his leadership and ministry impact. Along the way, he discovered a guiding truth: “Resting is not quitting but trusting.”
A passionate advocate for simplifying leadership, Pastor Scott offers an insightful counter-cultural strategy of removing complexity, not adding more, and letting go of what no longer serves the mission. Drawing from his own leadership experiences and the historical wisdom of figures like Winston Churchill, he outlines actionable questions that every leader and layperson should ask of themselves and one another. His message illustrates that good leadership is both top-down and bottom-up.
He also tackles the hidden obstacles that quietly sabotage a leader's development and growth: resentment, entitlement, and over-extension. Pastor Scott reminds us that leaders must come up for air, and that without rest and rhythm, even the strongest leaders will drown. His call is clear: lead with clarity and courage, and love the people more than the goals.
About Scott:
Scott Purkey is a dedicated pastor and an accomplished business leader with a passion for serving both the church and the marketplace. Scott has served in ministry for over 39 years, fostering individual and community growth, while also leading business ventures with integrity, vision, and purpose. Committed to empowering others, Scott mentors emerging leaders, helping them integrate faith and the marketplace to make a meaningful impact in every area of life.

What happens when God asks you to make a move that looks like career suicide? Michael Wozniak, business leadership coach, author, and former global NBA executive, said "yes" and it changed everything.
In this episode, we explore Michael’s remarkable journey of obedience, risk, and faith. After a meteoric rise at Pepsi and completing graduate school, he felt called by God to pivot into international sports marketing by taking a job without pay and in a country where he didn’t even speak the language. Mike’s courage and trust led to a dream role with the NBA, leading the launch of its global expansion during the 1992 “Dream Team” Olympics in Japan.
God later asked Mike to lay down his “Isaac” (his love for sports) and step into ministry. Through unexpected connections, he helped launch “Kid’s Games,” a Bible-based global sports outreach now in over 140 countries.
Today, Mike coaches leaders and teams, focusing on culture, communication, and self-awareness. Drawing on tools like the Five Voices of Leadership, he equips others to lead with humility and courage.
This episode is a masterclass in what it means to trust God when the path makes no sense. Mike reminds us: “When ‘good and faithful servant’ is your mantra, your path will not be linear. When you're walking in obedience, never trust your eyes, because it’ll never look the way you think it should.”
More about Mike:
Michael Wozniak is a Business Leadership coach fighting for people’s highest good unlocking leadership potential at every level. He believes strongly helping owners and leaders grow themselves, grow their people, and grow their business. A relational intelligence expert, his focus is on culture, communication, relationships, alignment, and execution driving performance and profit. Prior, Michael worked at the National Basketball Association around the 1992 Dream Team and launched the NBA in Japan. He also helped launch Kids Games, a global children & sports movement, scaling it to over 150 countries reaching millions of children annually. Michael has owned multiple businesses and currently owns a volleyball club along with his consulting agency. He is an author of the book “Employee Drift” sharing how to lead people purposefully in support, clarity & trust. Employee disengagement doesn't happen overnight. It's a gradual process, a drift, often caused by a lack of effective leadership. However, when employees feel valued, supported, and inspired, they show up differently. They stop working for you and start working with you. Michael and wife Beth have been married for 32 years and have four adult children, a daughter-in-law, and one granddaughter. He lives in Grand Rapids, MI.
