  • Adventure: Creating Life-Giving Experiences for Your Family
The everyday mundane has a knack for keeping us comfortable. Before long, we forget to take risks, do something out of our comfort zone, or prioritize activities that actually bring us life. That's why we felt it fitting for the final episode of our Words That Matter for Your Family series to end with the word "adventure." When was the last time your family did something adventurous?

In this episode, we talk about:
    • How thinking, feeling, and relating all at the same time influences brain growth
    • The reward of saying "yes" to a hobby, risk, or decision that challenges you
    • How "adventure" helps your kids internalize their faith and love others well
    • The relationship between having fun and gaining empathy and how the two go hand-in-hand

  • Purpose: How to Live On Purpose, Not By Accident, As a Family
There is a hard truth we all have to come to grips with: If you don't get intentional about the direction of your family, the culture will decide it for you. A culture that values individual achievement at the expense of the family unit results in families who are exhausted, fragmented, and directionless. But what if each individual's purpose in life was meant to be discovered, not outside the home, but within it? And what could this look like for your family?

In this episode, we continue the Words That Matter for Your Family series, by talking about the word "purpose" and how your family can live on purpose, not by accident.

    We talk about:
    • The one question that matters more than any other to determine if you’re really living on purpose
    • How our values lead to our purpose
    • Specific ways we (the Straub’s) live on purpose in our family
    • How to cultivate your heart, make your inner circle smaller, and become more "weird"

  • Teachable: How to Cultivate a Teachable Spirit in Your Home
Isn't it wild how we, as humans, are drawn to prioritizing a growth mindset...well, that is, until someone (a spouse, child, coworker, or friend) delivers us some unwelcome constructive criticism. Can we be teachable when it's tempting to be offendable? How we respond as adults may very well be what we cultivate with our kids.

As we continue the Words That Matter for Your Family series, this week we talk about the word "teachable" and why it matters for your family.

    We talk about:
    • The interconnectedness of teachability and calm
    • How and why saying sorry to your kids is the gift that keeps on giving
    • How to let go of self protection when your spouse points out a flaw
    • Being curious about what you don't want to learn and processing it in prayer
