After a bit of a coronavirus enforced hiatus, the Utah theater scene has sprung back to life, and nothing showcases that wonderful development like the vibrant valentine of "Something Rotten!"  to theater currently on stage at the  Pioneer Theatre Company Today on the Fan Effect podcast host KellieAnn Halvorsen is joined by two fellow theater lovers, Megan Gutierrez, founder of the Utah Theater Lovers group, and national and Broadway performer Robert Anthony Jones (known as Raj). All had been delighted to be a part of  “Something Rotten!” on opening night, Megan and KellieAnn in the audience and Raj on stage as the comedic Nostradamus. Together they discuss the production, their mutual love of theater, and how Utah is the place for a vibrant mix of arts and culture. 

"Something Rotten!" runs through March 12, 2022, with evening shows Monday through Saturday and a Saturday matinee. Tickets are between $48-77and are available at PioneerTheatre.org. Andy Farnsworth joins KSLTV to help audiences decipher #WhatToWatch for the weekend of February 18, 2022. Two of the three shows he is looking at this week are adaptations of video games that lead into “Uncharted” territories. In theaters, you've got Tom Holland & Mark Wahlberg hunting for treasure in the action/adventure movie “Uncharted,” based on the PlayStation game series. On Netflix, there's some fun, retro-1930's-style animation for kids in “The Cuphead Show,” based on the multi-platform game. Then for more grown-up viewing, season two of Netflix's Steve Carell-led comedy series “Space Force” is also on Netflix. Not mentioned in this segment, but available online is Andy’s review of Channing Tatum’s emotionally engaging movie “Dog.”

It is no surprise that as we are headed into Valentine’s Day weekend, there are many romantic movies to choose from: a murder mystery focused on newlyweds, a couple of comedies,  and even a teenage romance. The big movie prediction of the week is Kenneth Branagh returning as famous sleuth Hercule Poirot and trying to solve gorgeous people’s murders in “Death on the Nile.”  Also centered on marriage, Superstar singer J-Lo tries to find harmony with random guy Owen Wilson in rom-com ‘Marry Me.’ And with a more adult comedic twist,” I Want You Back” sees Charlie Day & Jenny Slate unable to move on after getting dumped. And for a more dramatic twist filled with teenage angst, “The Sky is Everywhere,” is streaming on Apple TV Plus.

Andy Farnsworth joins KSL-TV to help audiences decipher #WhatToWatch for the weekend of January 21, 2022. We are still in that movie purgatory month of January where Hollywood Studios movie. It is they don't have their best stuff on display. So thankfully, streaming TV has a couple of decent options for us. From Andy’s pick of the week is “True Story with Ed & Randall” on Peacock TV to his teen daughter’s pick of  “Supernatural Academy” also on Peacock TV, there are shows the whole family can enjoy. But the one everyone is looking forward to is "Fraggle Rock: Rock On!" on Apple TV Plus. Will it be a musical hit for fans and possibly a whole new generation? Time will tell. Over on Hulu fans are ecstatic over the new spin-off comedy  “How I Met Your Father” on Hulu, which is promoting itself as the “How I Met Your Mother” for modern audiences. Now there is one film hitting the theaters with a big name… but with an 8-year delay between filming and opening, Andy isn't counting on it winning over many fans.

Not reviewed here, but worth a mention a new and bloody movie in the Scream horror franchise is now in theaters, John Cena is the violent DC Comics superhero in Peacemaker over on HBO Max.
