  • Marshall Cook Satirizes Film Festivals with his film 'Film Fest'

Writer, Director, Actor, and Craft Services expert Marshall Cook talks about his new movie Film Fest satirizing the film festival circuit and working with several other unrelated Cooks on the set.

Marshall Cook, works along with Rachael Leigh Cook (She's All That, Josie and the Pussy Cats) and Matt Cook (Man With A Plan, That's Not Funny), in the new comedy movie Film Fest, satirizing the film festival scene.

Now we definitely make a lot of jokes about Cooks in the Kitchen but surprisingly not a single one is related to each other. Add in Will Sasso, Sara Rue and Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighter turned podcaster and comedian Brendan Shaub and we've got a recipe for a good time...yes we recognize that bad puns.

Cook and I even talk about Sasso and my addiction to 90 Days Fiance and out love of reality television.

Film Fest premiered to rave reviews at the Austin Film Festival and is now available on Amazon Prime Video and iTunes.

    Official Synopsis:

After submitting their first film "Unknown Unknowns" to every major film festival with no pick up, Logan (Matt Cook) feels defeated until one day, his producer, Alex (Diona Reasonover) succeeds in getting the film into a festival, the Hollywylde Film Festival. No Sundance by any means, and with no real connections, Hollywylde is their only hope at a distribution deal. Skeptic at best, Montgomery Nash (Will Sasso), festival organizer, uses all his charm to turn their attitudes around. But will it be the push they need? FILM FEST is a fun look behind the curtain of what it's really like for filmmakers and critics alike at the perceived glitzy film fest world. • Maya Zinshtein and Abie Troen Talks About their Documentary 'Til Kingdom Come'

Til Kingdom Come is a fascinating documentary about the growing support from Evangelical Protestants who have used their political influence in the United States and a unique understanding of theology to support the State of Israel.

Filmmakers Maya Zinshtein and Abie Troen talked about their unique experience in meeting up with several Evangelical groups and supporters of Israel, but what appears to be a more dangerous ideology in seeking Armageddon.

When I was in graduate school I learned of this theology in that some Evangelicals sects accept the covenant of God with Abraham and his descendants as part of Christian tradition instead of the new covenant that the Apostle Paul speaks of throughout his Epistles. Unlike, High Church Christianity, these groups seek not only political influence but are attempting to force the Hand of God in gathering up the Jewish people, sending them back to Israel and force the Second Coming of Christ.

They also negate the fact that 30 percent of Palestinians are Christian, primarily Eastern Orthodox, along with Byzantine Catholics and High Church Protestants, ignoring not only their identity but the Christian presence that has been in the Middle East since the Apostolic Age.

I am of the Eastern Orthodox Christian faith and have been told numerous times by people of these sects that I am not a Christian and that I have no understanding of the Holy Bible, so there is no surprise to those of us on the receiving end of that worldview in how they feel about other the trunk of the Christian tree.

Maya Zinshtein, Abie Troen and I have a fascinating discussion about what it means to be Jewish and practically fetishized for their identity, especially when Zinshtein professes to be a secular Jew instead of a practicing religious one and what that means for someone like her when these denominations look to a religious State of Israel instead.

Til Kingdom Come will be available nationwide Watch Now @ Home Cinema Release on Friday, February 26, 2021.

  • The High Points of Sobriety with Tony Rubino - Interview

Author, Cartoonist, Recovering Addict, Tony Rubino talks to us about his new book that takes a humorous slant at getting sober in, The High Points of Sobriety.

Tony Rubino is not yet a household name, but if you are familiar with the nationally syndicated comic strip, Daddy's Home, then you know some of Rubino's work. Rubio has written half a dozen books and counting.

Now, Rubino takes on the hardest topic that he's ever faced and that's opening up based on personal anecdotes and other real stories from people who are attempting to get sober or have gotten sober over the years in The High Points of Sobriety.

Rubino even gets a bump by Emmy-Award Winning actor, playwriter and comedian, Leslie Jordan who said, “Lord have mercy. When I read The High Points of Sobriety, so many memories of my drinking and using days came flooding back. This book makes me so glad I got sober.”

Sobriety from what I have come to understand from people like Rubino and others that I know who have gotten sober is after coming to terms with hitting rock bottom and fully examining who you are as a person, where you currently are in your life and how do you want to fix it. What is even more difficult for people to realize about someone like Rubio, who described himself as a, "functioning alcoholic" is that when  you go from being the life of the party to coming to terms with not enjoying the party anymore, you need to check out and find out who is the new  you.

I was lucky enough to have this conversation with Rubino about his struggles, his successes and how his life has changed in the last two decades.

I also enjoy that he has two-to-three pages at the end of the book dedicated to help lines for people seeking to get out of their current situation as addicts and if that is enough to help just one person, then Tony Rubino has done his job.

For more information on Tony Rubino follow him on Instagram @rubinodaddyshome. To find his books or his comic strip, visit his official website at www.rubinocreative.com.

  • Two Time World Kickboxing Champion Dan Magnus Fights for his Life

Two time World Kickboxing Champion under the Professional Karate Association (PKA), 8th Dan black belt in USA Goju Karate, Professional Wrestling trainer and former bounty hunter, Dan Magnus is not fighting for another championship, he is fighting for his life.

The 64-year-old Magnus, a native of New York and California resident, is waiting on a heart transplant. However, his situation is extremely rare in comparison to others in his hospital ward. Magnus, who previously had three surgeries is quite possibly the healthiest person in the hospital as he has a stationary bike and dumbbells in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

"It's pretty funny because I have no symptoms. I'm not breathing hard or anything, it's just the tests show my heart's weak. They save we have to wait and get you a good heart. There were two offers already but they weren't strong enough. It's really weird. Usually when you're having a heart transplant you take what ever you can get but they have to find me a heart that strong enough to do what I do," said Magnus from his hospital room.

Magnus spends a minimum of 30 minutes on his stationary bike in the ICU ward and uses 3 lb. weights during his shadow boxing sessions. Mangus would lift heavier weights, but the doctors will not allow it. When going for walks around the hospital floor, he practically laps his nursing staff and quips that the wheelchair they follow him around with, he will eventually have to push them once he's tired them out.

Magnus has a Swan-Ganz catheter attached through his neck leading to his heart that feeds the medication directly into his valves. Once they took it out of his neck, Magnus went about 20 laps around the ward, walking for an hour just to keep himself active.

"My biggest fear when I get out of the hospital is not that I am going to do too much, it is that Tracee is going to yell at me a lot. I'm actually scared! She's prepared. She's by my side. It's going to be a little different for me because with my other two heart surgeries I had nobody," said Magnus about his girlfriend Tracee Meltzer, professionally known as Roxy Astor in the original incarnation of the Gorgeous Ladies Of Wrestling (GLOW).

Magnus received an outcry of support from legends within the Karate World including Jeff Smith, Don "The Dragon Wilson and Billy Blanks.

Magnus continued to work, train, find love and now fights for his life and when listening to the interview, wants to fight one more 12-round fight for his old title, only this time with a healthy heart.

"Let me tell you, I'm a human being, I'm scared. I just don't let it effect me. I make it like a fight; you get nerves. Anybody that says go into a professional fight and they're not scared or they're not nervous; they're liars! That's what keeps you going, but you have to over come it. You have to accept it...this is going to be a long road, but I've been down this road a couple of time," said Magnus about his pending transplant.

  • Varian and Darian Johnson Give Us the 'Flash Facts' About 3-D Printing

Identical twin brothers, engineers and comic book writers Varian and Darian Johnson give us the Flash Facts about 3-D Printing in the new DC Comics Graphic Novel put forth by Mayim Bialik.

In a graphic novel geared towards 8-to-12 year olds, Flash Facts takes us through a handful of chapters in the applied sciences more commonly referred to now as Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) sometimes also called STEAM (the "A" is for Arts) and how these items, when applied correctly can add major value to our lives.

Enter Varian and Darian Johnson, identical twin brothers who wrote Chapter Two's If You Can't Take the Heat, featuring Batman teaming up with Plastic Man in using a 3-D printer Varian Johnson was a structural engineer before he became a writer and Darian Johnson works in 3-D printing. The Johnson brothers teamed up together for this seven page story in how Batman using STEM to create a flame retardant suit.

These two gentlemen had a lot of interesting things to say about the state of education, the significance of applied sciences and what it's like being adult twins with rhyming names...of which, my maternal grandparents did to my uncles.

As a former educator myself and the son of an engineer, this book is very important to me because I lost interest in the sciences quite quickly simply with the way the subject matters were taught. Engineering is taught using geometry and theory long before we ever looked at an engine or a building and by the time we got to those things, I was already uninterested. Science classes were worse because we learned a million Greek and Latin terms before getting to the most worthless pay off at the end of the 45 minute lesson...and that's how you make a glass bottle. That's my little venting fest for now.

Flash Facts is available this today, Tuesday, February 2, 2021 from DC Comics.
