I have a tendency to refer to Kat Foster as my, "Fellow May, Bay Area, Baby," because we were both born in the Bay Area and I'm two weeks older than her. Putting that ever-so-slight bias aside, I spoke with Foster and writer/director Gina O'Brien about their new tennis comedy coming to VOD on Tuesday, September 8, 2020 entitled, First One In.

Foster plays Madi, a former high school tennis star that gets canceled by society after a tragic incident on a reality show. In order to start over in her real estate career, Madi gets hired at the most prestigious and competitive firm run by the Johnny Lawrence of tennis, Bobbi (Georgia King). Through her friend with a band of misfits and an old teammate, Madi reconnects with her love of tennis and who she truly is as a person.

Quite frankly, this is far more of a conversation than an interview as O'Brien steals all my best questions before I could ask them, but seriously, this was a lot of fun, like old friends getting together and chatting over brunch.

Directed by Sanjay Rawal, Gather is a documentary Executive Produced by Jason Momoa about the intimate portrait of a growing movement amongst Indigenous Americans to reclaim their spiritual and cultural identities through obtaining sovereignty over their ancestral food systems, while battling against the historical trauma brought on by centuries of genocide.

The documentary follows the individual stories of several natives on the frontlines of this movement to reconnect with their spiritual and cultural identities. From an indigenous chef who embarks on an ambitious project to reclaim ancient food ways on the Apache reservation; a gifted Lakota high school student, raised on a buffalo ranch proving her tribes native wisdom through her passion for science; and a group of young men of the Yurok tribe in Northern California who are struggling to keep their culture alive and rehabilitate the habitat of their sacred salmon. All these stories combine to show how the reclaiming and recovery of ancient food ways is a means forward for native Americans to bring back health and vitality to their people and communities.

We spoke with Rawal about the documentary and the impact it had not only him but to present these cultural struggles of a neglected indigenous peoples in the nation we have adopted as our homelands.

Producer, actress and filmmaker Xenia Leblanc (Orange Is the New Black)'s female-driven web series Gritty & Pretty, which will premiere its pilot episode at the Dances with Films festival on September 5, 2020 with a second screening scheduled for Sunday, September 6th. Leblanc's series was accepted into the festival's 2020 Web and TV Series slate.

The series took seven days to film and an $11,000 budget, a testament to the type of guerilla filmmaking that Dances with Films seeks to highlight.

Dances with Films began in 1998 as a film festival dedicated to finding tomorrow’s talent today and continues to carry on this mission. With many world and West Coast premieres, Dances with Films is a coveted first stop on the festival circuit.

We spoke with Leblanc about how the series came about, what her online presence is like now and poked fun at her Russian background, with her people being known for having an extremely long memory.

Rarely do I fanboy out hard in an interview, but I've known Vampiro (aka Ian Hodgkinson) for a few years and the last time we spoke was during the final season of Lucha Underground. Vampiro has lived quite an interesting life from being a bodyguard for Milli Vanilli to becoming a Lucha Libre sensation in Mexico.

The guy brought The Misfits to WCW for-crying-out-loud and is a consummate professional in and out of the ring.

Vampiro teamed with first time documentarian, Michael Paszt on their new venture, Nail in the Coffin: The Fall & Rise of Vampiro. In the documentary we follow the career of Vampiro as an agent, a booker, a performer and most importantly, a father. We also learn about several of Vampiro's underlining health issues.

I spoke with both Vampiro and Paszt about this documentary that will bring in the wrestling fan base in, who will convert their friends into watching a film about a man who is a single father trying to overcome his past issues to raise his daughter, who he would challenge God for in keeping her safe.

Roughly two decades ago, Hollywood crossed over with professional wrestling, when the first time in history, an actor became the world heavyweight champion as David Arquette won the World Championship Wrestling (WCW) title on an episode of Thursday Night Thunder that aired on TBS. This was all in part to Arquette being a lifelong wrestling fan and the cross promotion for his then upcoming film, Ready to Rumble, with co-star Scott Caan.

We spoke with Arquette about his new documentary entitled, You Cannot Kill David Arquette, where the man who has had a very successful career not only in front of, but also behind the camera decides to return to the squared circle for another wrestling run. We talk death matches, the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) and my prediction that by 2022, David Arquette will come full circle on TNT and win the All Elite Wrestling (AEW) World Heavyweight Championship, making him a two time world champ.

Arquette is an amazingly talented and humble human being that is reflected in this interview and You Cannot Kill David Arquette is a fascinating documentary. It's part work, part shoot and all heart.

A film that was thought to be lost to the ages that is finally seeing the light of day is Chief Zabu. A comedy that was inspired by our current incumbent 30 years prior to him revealing political aspirations.

Filmmakers Zach Norman (who plays Sammy in Chief Zabu) and writer/producer/director Neil Cohen spoke to me the other day on the significance of the film, how dirty and underhanded politics has always been and that the one honest, altruistic person in that field either has to be corrupted or driven out. Chief Zabu features Marianna Hill, Allen Garfield, and Allan Arbus along with a whole host of other amazing actors, some of which have passed on.

I had the pleasure of speaking with Norman and Cohen on not only how they saved the film from complete deterioration, but the restoration process, which was almost an impossible task, the cast and how in this instance, art definitely influenced life. We had so much fun in discussing the film that was dragged the publicist Monica in on the conversation, which was just too good to cut out. I would reveal Monica's last name, but I think she wants to retain a little bit of anonymity.

Chief Zabu is available now on VOD and hits the nail on the proverbial head a little too hard in their portrayal of dirty politics in a satirical manner that will have you laughing as you keep from crying how accurate they were in that spectrum.

Ron Funches is one of the funniest comedians out on there today. On top of the stresses of living in a pandemic filled world, Funches remains active in his home life as a husband and father. To put the proverbial icing on the cake, Funches has also lost and maintained losing 140 lbs, where as most people have gained the quarantine fifteen.

We spoke to Funches about stand-up, weight loss, family life and his new Netflix series Hoops, which begins streaming today. Funches voices the character of Ron, who is Jake Johnson's reasonable friend that keeps the series grounded in its hilarity.
