'Anxious Nation' Brings to Light a Hidden Epidemic Effecting the American Youth at Newport Beach Film Festival.   Having its world premiere yesterday, Saturday, October 15, 2023 at the Newport Beach Film Festival and receiving a second screening on Thursday, October 20th at 7:30 p.m., 'Anxious Nation' shines a light on the hidden pandemic of youth anxiety that has been troubling American kids for decades. 

Originally started as a Facebook post by Producer, Writer and Co-Directly, Laura Morton regarding her daughter's issues with anxiety, 'Anxious Nation' took on a life of its own as parents who felt alone now had a conversation in what could be done to help their children. Statistics are showing that Suicide rates among 15-24 year-olds have tripled since the 1950s and is the 2nd most common cause of death among college students, as 70% of teens between the ages of 13 to 17 view anxiety and depression as a major problem, while 50% of 18-22 year-olds feel lonelier and more isolated than seniors 72 and older. As Morton was able to begin formulating the documentary and conducting interviews for 'Anxious Nation' she had only one director in mind who could take this feature to the next level and that was Academy Award Winner, Vanessa Roth. 

Roth was initially hesitant about taking on the project as she was dealing with anxiety within her own household at the time and felt it was too personal a subject to be objective in its delivery. However, as time progressed and Morton forged forward, Roth came along to direct the project making 'Anxious Nation' a subject needing to be discussed, especially when during the height of Covid, society could no longer ignore this epidemic.  'Anxious Nation' came to fruition, Super Model, Actress, Humanitarian and mother, Kathy Ireland came on board to present the documentary to the world. Along with leading experts and personal accounts, we learn that there is no one particular factor that leads to anxiety in our youth. Causes can be from familiar pressures, social media addiction, bullying and information overload that can stress anyone out if not handled with carefully. Born into a Muslim family, to an Iraqi father and a Lebanese mother, Aida Schlaepfer shines a light on a tragic and ignored period in Western Civilization being the Assyrian Genocide of 1915. Only in recent years have the Armenians been recognized with the loss of their 1.5 million ancestors, but the Assyrians have continued to be forgotten. Add to that of Greeks living in the Ottoman Empire at the time and the numbers of the Christian Genocide extend well beyond 3.5 million.

Schlaepfer short documentary 'NouN' in 2015 introduces the world to the Assyrio-Babylonian indigenous population of Iraq and Syria as they suffered under ISIS. For those that are unfamiliar with the letter 'NouN' in Arabic, it is the Arabic 'N' and used as an abbreviation for the word, 'Nazarian' a term that Muslim use to call Christians in the region.

'Souls in Transit' has Schlaepfer return to Iraq as only survivor in her family following the most recent Iraq War...the fact that we have to refer to it as, "the most recent" should be spinetingling.

Schlaepfer does not divide the 1915 Genocide based on ethnicities or denominations but discusses the suffering of all Christians within the Fertile Crescent, whether Assyrian, Chaldean, Syriac or Armenian.

I spoke with Schlaepfer shortly after she landed in New York City, NY following her overnight flight from Switzerland to discuss 'Souls in Transit', her interest in the Christian communities of her homeland and the stuffering they continue to endure in Iraq and Syria.

'Top Gun: Maverick' Star Danny Ramirez Talks 'Tales of the Walking Dead' now streaming on AMC+ and Airing on AMC Sunday, September 18, 2022.

Danny Ramirez claims to be lucky, but after having stared in Top Gun: Maverick alongside living legend Tom Cruise and now co-staring with the incredible talents of Terry Crews, Poppy Liu, Jillian Bell, Jay T. Usher, Anthony Edwards (Goose from the original Top Gun) and Daniella Pineda, 'Tales of the Walking Dead' is shaping up to be one of the most exiting casts in 'The Walking Dead' expanded universe.

The weekly one-hour episodic anthology series follows our ensemble cast through various haunts as they survive in this world. Ramirez, who plays Eric sings the praises of his castmates, including Terry Crews, who he met at San Diego Comic-Con this year. Crews' passion for the craft and performance felt infectious to Ramirez, only adding to the excitement.

Each episode of 'Tales of the Walking Dead' has its own distinct tone and point of view – but the stakes are high in each story, pushing new, indelible characters with relentless, life-threatening choices and situations. We get to see the apocalypse through different eyes, discovering more worlds, mythos, and mysteries of 'The Walking Dead.'

Ramirez and I joked that later in the season there will be a musical episode to cover every trope known to television. Somehow, creators Scott M. Gimple and Channing Powell have been to keep 'The Walking Dead' alive and interesting, something we though would have long lost its luster after the original series had come to an end.

Thankfully, 'Tales of the Walking Dead' allows fans of horror and the zombie genre a fulfilling series that will keep them coming back for seasons to come.

Disney Fine Arts Artist, New Jersey Native, Clinton Hobart Brings the Holiday Cheer to Christmas Con, Pasadena, CA, 2022.

Clinton Hobart went from painting fruit, to snack foods landing his “A Portrait of Doritos” in the private collection of actor Michael Rooker from 'Guardians Of The Galaxy' and 'The Walking Dead'.

In addition to painting snack foods and Disney Fine Arts, Hobart also paints still-life, portraits, cosplay paintings, and ocean waves. He has been featured on NBC News, FOX News, The CW, ABC News, and American Artist magazine. Appearing on CBS News with Scott Pelle after a Chinese company sold forged copies of his paintings online.

According to Hobart his website, "...the Huffington Post mentioned the story in an article stating that Clinton was part of a 'sting operation.'”

Hobart sold out of almost every item during Christmas Con, leading to commissions and prints being mailed out to fans who purchased his work in attendance.

We caught up with Hobart at Christmas Con 2022 in Pasadena, CA where he was a featured guest and did painting demonstrations for fans in attendance. We joked about life, art, anyone being good enough to play for the New York Mets, when discussing athletic prowess, knowing from an early age that he wasn't cut out for any other career than in the arts and how that snack chip ended up coming to life.

Hobart also spoke with us about his favorite Christmas movie among other things during our chat on the convention room floor.

During Christmas Con 2022 in Pasadena, CA we spoke with founders Liliana Kligman and Christina Figliolia talking about the holidays, their favorite movies, the Genesis of Christmas Con and 90s Con.

Christmas Con Pasadena was originally schedule for August, 2020, but we all remember quite well what happened that year, so after a two year delay, Christmas Con 2022 had arrived and did not disappoint. This was the West Coast trial run for Christmas Con as the one in New Jersey houses triple the attendees. Though, Pasadena will not be far behind next year as the expected growth will surely make Hallmark Christmas movie fans, and lovers of the holidays alike come out in droves to meet not only their favorite stars, but be cheery and bright.

Unlike several conventions I have attended in the past, Christmas Con not only had the holiday vibe and spirit, but each Hallmark notable guest was kind and engaging with their fans, from host Jonathan Bennett and headliner, Lacey Chebert, as well as the Jen Lilley, Jesse Hutch and so many others. In fact, the only thing really missing was the hot chocolate, but Pasadena in August, it was okay that the warm drinks went missing in 95 degree weather.

All this is a testament to not only the professionalism but also the friendship between Kligman and Figliolia, who have put together two larger Christmas Con events in New Jersey, but also 90s Con in Connecticut. Word has it, that 90s Con has been requested to have secondary events in Florida as well as here in California and we couldn't be more excited for that possibility.

Kligman and Figliolia are already planning for Christmas Con 2023 in California the reaction of the attendees, it is understandable. Christmas Con is a generational event where grandparents and grandchildren came out to celebrate the love of the Christmas season and their favorite films with their favorite actors.

Christmas Con will return to New Jersey December 9, 10 & 11, 2022 New Jersey Convention Center in Edison, NJ, and next summer here in California.

Lebanese-American Actress Jamie Grey Hyder (True Blood, Graceland, Sugar Plum Twist) talks about voicing Hawkgirl in 'Green Lantern: Beware My Power' premiering at San Diego Comic Con.

Hyder plays Thanagarian warrior Hawkgirl in a story focusing on the modern origin of Green Lantern, John Stewart, his struggles with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and the survivors guilt. All this while being drawn into an intergalactic battle between Rann and Thanagar, but not all is as it seems. Unlike Stewart, Hawkgirl holds to the notion of dying an honorable death in battle and like Hyder's real-life Phoenician ancestors being proud to defend their nationality.

We spoke with Hyder about her role as Hawkgirl in 'Green Lantern: Beware My Power', her work with veterans and the power of humanizing our comic book as well as science fiction characters.
