Fans of the Forge

For this very special on-location interview, we stopped by Dave Parthemore's shop to talk about his experience winning the Forged in Fire Invitational Tournament!

We chatted about both episodes he appeared on, in detail, and this was one of those times where we almost forgot we were doing an interview because we were learning so much!

Dave works as a blacksmith full-time and when he retires in a few years, he plans to focus on being a bladesmith.

You can follow his work here: https://www.facebook.com/Dave-Parthemore-Bladesmith-Artist-Blacksmith-1944229762539348/

Thanks to Dave and Patti Parthemore for hosting us for the evening!

This podcast is a little different.

It recently came to our attention that a petition was going around that had to do with this press release:

https://www.aenetworks.com/article/ae-networks-and-cricket-holdings-llc-announce-cookware-and-cutlery-lines-inspired-by-historys-hit-series-forged-in-fire?fbclid=IwAR0Zl-RaiRL5Z91HfaTbt7zlCUyJi00V8DOc3KIElZzhEJ48rMQo6njqBv0

A&E Networks is selling Forged in Fire (faux-forged looking) branded Kitchen Knives.

A number of bladesmiths were unhappy to hear about this, and voiced their opinions on Social Media, which led to the creation of this petition:

https://www.change.org/p/jacek-radko-make-a-e-network-stop-selling-forged-in-fire-branded-knives-and-other-items?recruiter=270740711&utm_source=share_petition&utm_medium=copylink&utm_campaign=psf_combo_share_abi.pacific_post_sap_share_gmail_abi.gmail_abi.lightning_2primary_share_options_more.control&utm_term=psf_combo_share_initial.pacific_email_copy_en_gb_4.v1.pacific_post_sap_share_gmail_abi.gmail_abi.pacific_email_copy_en_us_3.control.pacific_email_copy_en_us_5.v1.lightning_2primary_share_options_more.control

In this video, we break down what the problem is, what the different reactions to it are, and lay out our own discussion points on the topic. It's up to you to decide what you believe. If you agree the A&E is taking advantage of the bladesmithing community by offering these products, then please sign the petition.

Thanks for listening!

For this episode, our smiths had to recreate Ben Abbott's favorite blade, the Celtic Ring Knife. They were tasked with using wrought iron and high carbon steel to do a san mai blade. The finalists had to recreate the Irish Ring Hilted Sword. What a badass weapon!

The season is finally over! Time for a break!
