This week, we journey back to 1999 to see the first new Star Wars film to hit theaters in over fifteen years, the long-awaited prequel, The Phantom Menace. Mania swept the nation, but did it live up to the hype? The Fat Dude is thrilled to be joined by Ashley of The Cutaways Podcast to reminisce about how fun it felt to be caught up in the joy of it all, while also addressing some of the first episode’s more controversial elements.

The miniseries event of the season keeps trucking along as another member of the Back Lot 605 crew sits down with The Fat Dude this week. It’s time for @midwest_cinephile himself, Blake Ginithan, to share his thoughts on Return of the Jedi. The guys discuss the generalities of this movie that they both hold very dear to their hearts and topics like Ewoks and guerrilla warfare, and where Blake sits in the midst of the Star Wars fandom, at large.

Sometimes, The Fat Dude spends his time acting and directing theater and he gets the opportunity to meet some awesome people. One such awesome person he has shared the stage with is Christine Pietz, now of Smartmouth Comedy Company in Minneapolis, MN. Christine joins The Fat Dude to talk about arguably the best entry in the Star Wars saga, The Empire Strikes Back. The two also share a nice chat about the legacy of the saga’s greatest star, Carrie Fisher, and how Leia became the character so many girls wanted to be.

On this week’s episode of the new miniseries that is sweeping the nation... or, at least making my mother very proud of me... I am joined by Jameson of SDFilmThoughts and Back Lot 605 to talk about the original Star Wars. Over time, we have somehow changed the title of this film to A New Hope, but it will always be Star Wars to me. Here, Jameson and I reflect on the film and how it became a cultural touchstone, and also how our love for the series led to some great Halloween costumes.

Kicking off this special miniseries, I am joined by my brother, Rick Heller of KCHighSchoolSports.com, to talk about the long legacy of Star Wars all the way from the very beginning. We also discuss what works about Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and its place in the franchise.

I don’t have a clever name for it yet, but something big is coming. Well, something BIGGER is a bit further down the horizon, but this thing is a moderate sized thing leading up to that big thing. And I am excited for it. I have mentioned it, alluded to it, and briefly discussed it on other podcasts, but now it is time to officially declare it: The Star Wars Miniseries is coming soon. So get ready. Get hyped. It’s almost time. Let’s Taco ‘Bout Star Wars. Ooooh. You know, that title just might work. Let’s stick with that. Get ready for Let’s Taco ‘Bout Star Wars! Coming soon. Really soon. Sooner than you think...

Tuesday! November 5th!

This week, the Fat Dude touches upon some of his thoughts on the horror blockbuster, It: Chapter Two, while discussing his history with the property. Should a 4th Grader read Stephen King’s 1100 page epic? Probably not. But doing so led to a love of all things Pennywise. Find out if the Fat Dude thinks Andy Muschietti and company stuck the landing.

This year’s 4th of July holiday brought some big names to movie theaters. You probably already know I enjoyed both of these movies, so if you’re ready to dig a little deeper, let’s talk spoilers for Spider-Man: Far From Home and Midsommar.
