Fate, Luck & Karma: Geek Culture with a Side of Strange

In this post-San Diego Comic Con episode of "Fate and Karma," the West Midlands Ghostbusters dive into a spirited discussion about the Ghostbusters franchise, exploring unpopular opinions from fellow fans, franchise members and from other chapters around the world. Hosts Dean Reilly, Jay Wood and Theo Wilson debate everything from the merits of Ghostbusters vs Ghostbusters 2, if Ghostbusters Afterlife was a better movie than Ghostbusters Frozen Empire, whether cosplay props and uniforms need to be screen accurate, and the impact of the 2016 reboot. With their usual humour and passion, they tackle topics like merchandise, character arcs, and the evolution of the franchise, inviting listeners to share their own Ghostbusters hills that they'd die on.

Plus they share if they love or hate the Ghostbusters Ecto Glow figures and Ecto-1 vehicle (spoiler: they hate them. Like, really hate them).

So tune into Fate, Luck & Karma: A Ghostbusters Fan Podcast. Give us 30 minutes, and we'll give you the Ghostbusters world.

Join Dean, Jay and Theo as the team reflect on a busy few weeks. The West Midlands Ghostbusters have been in the same room as Bill Murray - thanks to his New Worlds tour coming to town - collaborated with the East Midlands Ghostbusters at the Monopoly Events Midlands Comic Con at the NEC, expanded the FLK family by picking up the Trick Or Treat Studios Wall-Breaker Slimer and decided that yes, Theo definitely should wear the Ghostbusters Crocs on his wedding day.

Plus we share some great Ghostbuster merch money off deals available right now, Jay talks about taking care of your mental health, and sparks an idea that might just lead to a baton passing relay race of Ghostbusters up and down the UK...

But if you want the details, you'll have to listen to Fate, Luck & Karma: S02E22 - give us 30 minutes, and we'll give you the Ghostbusters world!

In its landmark 46th episode, Fate, Luck & Karma truly hits its stride, with hosts Dean, Jay, and Theo confidently guiding listeners through a stacked celebration of all things Ghostbusters. Dropping just after Ghostbusters Day 2025, this episode channels pure fan energy as it explores fresh releases, heartfelt initiatives, and that unmistakable Proton Pack hum. Here's what you can look forward to hearing all about:

Ghostbusters Day 2025 Recap:

From Hook & Ladder 8 to the Heartstrings
The team dives into the emotional core of Ghostbusters Day, spotlighting Jason Reitman's moving announcement of the Ghostbusters Give Back initiative. Revealed on the steps of the legendary Hook & Ladder 8 firehouse in New York City, this campaign celebrates the spirit of community that’s always been at the franchise’s heart. The podcasters unpack what this philanthropic push means for fans and how it's reigniting the sense of purpose within the fandom.

Ghostbusters Crocs: Kicking Open the Containment Unit (In Style)
Yes, you heard right—Ghostbusters-themed Crocs have entered the material plane. Dean, Jay, and Theo have a laugh, but also a think: are these the most polarising fashion drop since the Ecto-Goggles? These comfy kicks are already sparking buzz across Ghostbusters Reddit, TikTok, and collectors' groups alike.

Hasbro Pulse Strikes Again: 1984-Style Proton Pack
Another major talking point is the newly revealed Hasbro Pulse Ghostbusters Proton Pack, designed to mimic the classic 1984 look. Whether you’re a cosplayer, collector, or just a nostalgic gearhead, this Proton Pack has fans buzzing. The hosts discuss its features, screen-accurate design, and how it fits in with the current wave of Ghostbusters merch madness.

Rooftop Legends: Action Figures That Capture the Climax
Collectors rejoice! The new Ghostbusters action figures depicting the team as they appeared during the rooftop showdown with Gozer are finally here. The pod crew breaks down the sculpting detail, packaging design, and potential value for serious collectors. These figures are already hot topics in Ghostbusters toy groups and eBay listings.

A Podcast Possessed – But In the Best Way
Episode 21 doesn't just review merch and moments—it's about fun, fandom, and firehouse banter. The chemistry between the hosts is palpable, and it's clear that the show has come into its own. If you're a fan of Ghostbusters: Afterlife, eagerly awaiting the next Ghostbusters sequel, or just vibing with the Ghost Corps aesthetic, this episode is your supernatural serotonin hit.

The Fate, Luck & Karma team welcome Gareth Mates, founder and organiser of Ghostbusters Celebration Wales 25 - an event bringing together custom Ecto-1 vehicles, photo ops, fan film screenings, cosplay, green screen pics and much more.

Now in it's second year, the free to enter GBCW event will take place on Sunday 8th June 2025 at Newbridge Memo, Newbridge, South Wales. Listen in as Dean, Jay and Theo talk to Gareth about the origins of the event, the challenges of getting together a whole host of Ghostbusters franchises to collaborate on the event, what Gareth is working towards for future events, and also the charity that Ghostbusters Celebration Wales is going to be raising money for.

Plus, hear about how the team can now get the Trick Or Treat Studios Slimer Wall Buster here in the UK, a great discount code that can be used at geek merch online retailer Zavvi, and a lovely story about how McKenna Grace is supporting the Ghostbusterfication of kid sized hospital gowns, to make the time that young people spend getting medical care a little less scary and a little more cool.

All of this, plus a sneaky preview of Fate, Luck & Karma's 46th episode - when the podcast really finds its voice! Not bad for less than 30 minutes!

If you've watched Ghostbusters Afterlife, you'll know that Episode 46 really matters in podcasting - just ask Dr Ray Stantz, or even Podcast (host of Mystical Tales of the Unknown Universe)!

So whether you've been with us from the very start, or just hopped on the Fate, Luck & Karma rollercoaster from one of 75 countries around the world where our plucky little podcast has reached, we hope you join us for our 46th episode... and beyond!

Join Dean, Jay and Theo as the team celebrate two whole years of podcasting - and like all the best parties, they've invited the neighbours!

In this special Ghostbusters franchise spotlight episode, we look to the East - specifically, to the East Midlands Ghostbusters, to welcome the 10 year+ group to the podcast.

You'll hear a little about their background, how the franchise got started and where it's progressed, hear some truly heart-warming stories of the great work they've done for the Make-A-Wish Foundation and with local charities too. In fact, if you want to support their main charity wherever you are in the world, then pop along to https://www.heartlinkchildrenscharity.co.uk/ or just search for "Heart Link Charity Leicester" to find out more.

All this, plus we discuss how one member of the franchise has been a regular on British TV recently, and devote far too much airtime to talking about toast, toasters, and spreads that could be combined with toast. In fact, you'll get to the point where toast stops even sounding like a word.

And yes, you'll even hear the phrase "meaty beverage".

Fate, Luck & Karma: S02E19 - it's a great big Ghostbusters Midlands mashup where East meets West! Happy listening!

Join Dean, Jay and Theo as they pack a whole heap of Ghostbusters news into just 30 minutes. You'll hear the guys discuss how Ernie Hudson manages to make himself even more endearing by supporting a drive for collecting puppy food (although this doesn't land quite how you'd expect with most of the team), as well as why he wants to get "down and dirty" in any Ghostbusters Frozen Empire sequel.

Plus, we dive into a transdimensional cross-rip's worth of new Ghostbusters merch, from the impressive looking new Ghost Trap from Spirit Halloween, the TWO huge Stay Puft Inflatables from HalloweenCostumes.com, Pop Culture Coffee's Ghostbusters themed coffee blends - with matching mugs - and Fun.com's Ghostbusters sneaker range. All this, plus Dean trying to find an aftershave that smells like marshmallow. Why? Well, you'll just have to listen to the episode to find out.

Fair warning though, this ep could lead to Google searching, impulse buying and bank account sadness. You have been warned.

Join Dean, Jay and Theo for this latest episode in the Fate, Luck & Karma Ghostbusters Fan Podcast series as they talk to a Busters franchise from north of the England and Scotland border: Ghostbusters Alba.

You'll hear the team discuss how one creative member has become the go-to place for franchise patches here in the UK, how the team boast no less than SIX Ecto vehicles, their stunning £10k+ fundraising efforts, and much more.

Plus, we explore culturally tricky topics like just how bad is Buckfast Tonic Wine, if there's an East vs West divide in the country, how if you get beaten up in Scotland at least the assailant will have a smile on his face, and if REAL Ghostbusters in Scotland wear kilts. (Spoiler: they do).

So join us to hear memories of the first time Ghostbuster Alba team members saw the original movie on the big screen, and get up to speed on what's next from one of the UK's newest GB Chapters.

All this and more, packed into just over 30 minutes. And not a bagpipe in sight.

OK, maybe just one...

In a special mini-episode, join Dean in the campaign to save the Prince Charles Cinema in London.

The iconic independent cinema, which recently hosted a screening of Ghostbusters: The Preview Cut presented by Gil Kenan and Jason Reitman, is facing an uncertain future following a move by landlords to include a six month redevelopment clause in their current lease.

This could give the landlord the right to redevelop the site, and give the cinema the minimum amount of time to attempt to find a new home.

Spare a few minutes, have a listen to this episode, and pop yourself along to https://princecharlescinema.com/savethepcc/ to learn more, visit https://you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/save-the-prince-charles-cinema to sign a petition that will be sent to the landlords, their parent company, the Mayor of London, and the Secretary for Culture, Media and Sport.

Also, share the hashtag #SaveThePCC to show your support online.

Thank you.

In our end of year Christmas special, join Dean, Jay and Theo as they look back on the last 12 months of Fate, Luck & Karma.

You'll hear them reminisce about their favourite moments from the show, discuss whether the Hasbro Haslab Two In A Box will make it to UK backers before Christmas (spoiler: they don't think it will), grumble about Red One being on Amazon mere minutes after finishing at the cinema, and more.

There's also their top recommendations for essential last minute gifts for the Ghostbusters fan in your life, a Ghostbuster-themed 12 days of Christmas by our very own AI Ray Stantz, a special thank you to all 73 countries that have now tuned in, and as you'd expect at Christmas, an excess of other stuff too. In fact, we're going to fill you with so much festive Ghostbuster goodness, you're going to need a nap afterwards to sleep off the effects.

What better way to round off the year, or indeed see in 2025?

Merry Christmas. And remember: be good, for goodness sake...
