In the early morning hours of October 7th, 1998, Matthew Shepard was offered a ride home from the Fireside Lounge from two local men in Laramie Wyoming. Instead of taking Matthew home these men robbed him, violently attacked him, then left him tied him to a fence in a remote rural area outside of Laramie. Mathew Shepard passed away in a hospital days later due to his injuries. The men who violently attacked him later attempted to use a legal defense tactic known as the "Gay Panic Defense" claiming that Matthew had made a pass at them. With a large media coverage, Matthew's death brought the abhorrent violence that people in the LGBTQ+ community deal with o a daily basis right to the living room of every American family. However, while some grieved with the Shepard family and fought to stop this from happening, others celebrated the death of an innocent and wonderful young man. Charlie Howard was a 23 year old, openly gay man from Portsmouth, New Hampshire. About six months before he was murdered, he moved to Bangor, Maine where he became involved in gay rights support groups. One night while walking home from an event with a friend, Charlie was stopped and chased by three teenage boys, where they threw them over a bridge to his death.

In 1993 Brandon Teena moved to Falls City Nebraska in an attempt to get a fresh start at life. As a transgender male who recently escaped his oppressive home life he was hopeful that he could escape the demons of his past and find a little slice of happiness. Unfortunately Brandon’s happiness was ripped away from him and so was his life. Join us as Amanda & Jen discuss the tremendously frustrating and upsetting case of Brandon Teena.

Lynn Burdick was 18 years old when she vanished from her job at the Barefoot Peddler’s Country Store in Florida, Massachusetts on April 17th, 1982. It is believe she was kidnapped, and her whereabouts and events surrounding her disappearance are still unknown.
