FKOF Premiere!

Largest of big ups to our Moscow fam @united_gang. Here's a banger off their next EP, featuring the sounds of @iamtrizna. Get to know 'Upyr'!

'UNTD004' dropped via bandcamp (hit the buy link) a few weeks ago - and is available via the usual digital retailers shortly!

1. Trizna - Raid

2. Trizna - One Step

3. Trizna - Splinter

4. Trizna - Upyr

5. Trizna - Edge

"'UNTD004'sees United’s discography continue to grow as Moscow’s Trizna releases his EP 'Raid', a fusion of sounds at 140bpm, creating what Trizna describes as 'Primal Grime'. The sounds employed by Trizna in this project could at once be described as both minimalist and industrial, creating a dark atmosphere with a somewhat sense of disjoint.

"The tracks, ‘Raid’, ‘One Step’, ‘Splinter’, ‘Upyr’ and ‘Edge’, all sound very much unique. Some taking on a more breaks-like feel due to their sample selection, without compromising their integrity as ‘Grime,’ music, and some, like ‘Edge,’ tending much more towards a Dubstep-based sound on account of the drum structure. Nevertheless, there is an undeniable sonic continuity between the tracks, and whilst Spacesurfer and Хандра (Handra) are other aliases under which Trizna produces music, the Trizna project gives an inescapable nod to Old-School Grime.

"The artwork for this EP is a medieval engraving of siege the Polotsk by Moscow Army. This engraving was made by unnamed Europeans who had never seen either the Polotsk or the Russians. This potentially makes for interesting symbolism as to how the Russian Grime contingent views its impact on the genre."

FKOF Promo!

Looking back, it seems it's been almost 30 releases and nearly 5 years(!) since the last Japanese artist released material with FKOF Records. But, if FKOFd049 is anything to go by, it won't be as long before we welcome more producers from The Land of the Rising Sun to the FatKidOnFire family. Our first release of 2021 brings an incredible collection of music to the imprint and could set the tone for what our next year will sound like.

'FKOFd049' is available from the FKOFd Bandcamp next Friday and @junodownload a week after that, 15/01/21, and will be available from all good electronic retailers two weeks later. Hit the buy link to pre-order the release...

1. Møndaigai - Sledgehammer

2. Møndaigai - Element

3. Møndaigai - Shockwave

4. Møndaigai - Hallelu-jah

5. Møndaigai - Undefined [FKOF Free Download]

'It's funny how things work out. It seems we've been in intermittent contact (over a few different mediums) with Tokyo's Møndaigai since the beginning of 2017. Koji sent us some demos via SoundCloud, and kept in touch as he developed his sound over the next few years. It wasn't until he got back in touch with his latest batch of material in August last year that something stuck and we got talking. From there, things progressed pretty quickly and we wrapped up one of our wildest, rawest and most powerful EPs in what feels like years. It's a bit of a departure from our usual material, but you'll understand why we've signed FKOFd049 pretty quickly...

'The release opens with 'Sledgehammer' - one of Møndaigai's earliest demos to us - and the track sets the tone of what follows. Viewer discretion is absolutely advised with this detonation of industrial force. It is absolutely feral. 'Element' moves things to a slightly different atmosphere, with its almost Nine Inch Nails vibe - it's deep, dark and delightful. Track 3, the aptly-titled 'Shockwave' is exactly what it sounds like it'd be. Uplifting, aggressive, gunfingers all over the shop type stuff. A combination of Kromestar, Goth-Trad and a few things in-between! But if we had to choose a favourite from this record, it'd be hard to avoid the close and everything that 'Hallelu-jah' brings. The intro teases the tension that explodes on the first drop and the track doesn't relent until its end some 4 minutes later. Climactic to say the least.

'It's hard to believe, some 10 years into the relationship with 140bpm material, that we can still discover artists creating music as exciting as what Møndagai's been building. It's a signature sound of the kind we've not heard before, and we're stupidly excited at what comes next. You'll be hearing more of Koji on FKOF Records, that's for sure.'

The astonishing @simply-deep imprint know their taste, slowly migrating towards the more Dubstep-oriented selection of producers for now. This time it's @mungkdubs, who brings three original and meditative steppers from scratch, featuring remixing duties by @hyphoofficial, @hunterreedmusic and @khromi. We happily premiere the remix by our favourite producer Hypho, who always know how to formulate a serious banger out of existing stems, besides his hard-hitting originals.

In for a banger? 'Amplified' is one hell of a track. With @chadgotdubz and @somahuk in heavy collaboration, the two find common ground in blending bassweight with some of the nasties growls we've heard in a long while.

Combining the dub-esque sound with darkness, that's what this riddim sounds like. What else would you want? The whole 'IFS026' EP, that's for sure... Shout out to the @infernal_sounds gang.

The boss @datra-2, an artist we previously didn't know before, releases his 'Honton' EP, with the @basskruit team, sister-label of @duploc.

The highly melodic 'Cure Them' soothes our ears comfortably, given it contains warm low-end and a mezmerizing Eastern instrument. But before you get too cozy, watch that insane second drop business.

'BSSKRT003' is set for release on 14/12/2020 thru all familiar physical and digital vendours. Make sure to hit the buy-link attached to bag and support the Dutch / Belgian artists featured on the imprint...

US imprint @sub-pressure only puts out quality and we're glad to have them back on our tidy little publication, this time featuring a name in Dubstep that needs no introduction: @leonswitch. He's joined by the label-owner @kial, who adds his current taste in Dubstep to our favourited 'Mind Science'.

The 'Device Unknown' EP contains darkness, throbbing bass and mystics. The right set of tracks for this dark, gloomy winter time. However, this can be played at loud volume at any given place, or that lovely sweaty basement we hopefully soon can return to...
