The UK's @bassclash-records is up with its latest EP - calling on Rinse Fr's @djabsurd for the 'Unshared Love' EP.

"As they quickly approach their 60th release, the Bassclash Records crew drop another monumental dubstep EP. While their last release may have focused on the deeper side of the genre, this instalment from Rinse FM's DJ Absurd pinpoints the moody and dark vibes that first made many of us fall in love with Dubstep. The title track sets the pace in a fine way with haunting, eerie vocals laced with moody dark square wave synthesis plus crushing sub bass to boot. This nicely warms the seat for the enchanting, original vocals and energetic offset bass stabs of "Ti Ubesc." Oscillating, lead notes paired with whirling, low frequencies take the reins for "Blood River" while the closing piece, "Friggle" breaks the mould completely with its dulcet yet whimsical momentum and piercing distorted guitar licks."

FKxF, or what we're (probably) calling FKOF Sequels or FKOFxtra, is a new digital imprint under the FKOF Records banner.

FKxF is a fresh start. With it, we move from the confines of 4 tracks at 140bpm that we have with other imprints and can flex our creative muscles with artists new and old to FatKidOnFire. There's no fixed release schedule so we sign what and when we like, and FKxF releases are exclusive to streaming platforms and the FKOF Records Bandcamp. LA-based @fortheheads is launching their vinyl imprint with an impeccable 4 tracks from FKOF fam @subtlemindmusic and @mrshlbeats.

"Off the heels of a few successful digital compilations, newly founded LA-based label For The Heads proudly kicks off their vinyl series with a 4 track collaborative EP from Subtle Mind & mrshl. All 4 of these cuts bring freshness and originality to the ever-growing 140 sound and are a meticulous blend of styles given both of the artist's virtuosity and creative ability.

"First, 'Built The Same' sets the pace of the EP with luscious chords and a prolific melody all wrapped together by its enticing low end. Next, the title track 'Can You Hear It' is a weighty number focused on its orbiting sub-bass and crisp percussion with a switch up that is sure to get any dance moving. On the B-side, an exceptional and unparalleled fusion of both modern synth-bass oscillations with the classical UK style groove and step of some jungle and garage is evident in 'When The Rain Comes'; all of this pieced together nicely with a jazzy saxophone sequence. FKOFd020 reimagined FKOFd006 with four different remixers, FKOFd030 was four tunes from four artists, we've had one or two collabs or remixes dotted about. But it wasn't until Roklem & Sebalo's FKOFd039 that we properly got a release that ably demonstrated the skills of more than one producer on a record. As it happens, our next digital EP is more of that vibe. Four tracks (and one free download) from two artists from different sides of the planet.

"'FKOFd045' came about in a pretty FatKidOnFire family way. I had been chatting to @11th_Hour as we prepped his solo debut and he recommended a Rottterdam-based artist called @Crowley_nl. Having not come across his tunes before, we got in touch - as it happens, Olaf's based in the RTM so turns out there was common ground. Sven sent some tunes over and a collab with @e_s_p_beats - who's based in Australia - caught my ear. One thing led to another, and here we have our next release.

"We open with Crowley's 'Stoic', which sets the tone for what follows. Swing, vibe and a whole lot of groove. It launches with atmospheric horns before rolling into a stripped-back stepper affair. Check the second drop for the rowdiness. Next up, we've the aptly-titled 'Luz:Daze Dub'. Think 4am on a summer's morning as the sun starts to rise, or last tune to wrap a proper night at the West Indian Centre. Banger. We then move into the collab tune, 'Rosetta', which takes things down a notch and brings back the grime. This is old/ new school bassweight at its best. One for the subs. As is 'Jah', the final tune on the EP - and e s p's solo effort. Beats, bass and space with much of that groove that really defines this record. If you enjoy these four, you'll likely dig e s p's 'Molotov', which we're giving away to celebrate the EP. Sound system music, as you know we do. Out to Crowley and e s p!

It's nice to see music still capable of bringing people together - Rotterdam and Brisbane, via London and now onto you all.
