FKOF Promo!

As it often goes with waiting for the bus, you see none for ages and then three turn up at once. We find ourselves in a similar situation having made a fuss announcing the last FKOFd EP about not having many collab releases in the back catalogue. It looks like that's not going to be a worry moving forward. But unlike FKOFd045 bringing two artists together from the opposite sides of the world, our latest digital release sees two producers joining forces in the same city.

'FKOFd046' is available from the FKOFd Bandcamp next Friday and @junodownload the Friday after that, 14/08/20, and will be available from all good electronic retailers two weeks later. Hit the buy link to pre-order the release...

1. Substrada - Doom

2. Substrada ft. Riko Dan - Calibre

3. Substrada & Caba - Omen

4. Substrada & Caba - Aku's Grasp

5. Substrada & Caba - Tubby [FKOF Free Download]

"Belgium's Ghent, found in the northern part of the country, has a population of just north of 260,000. We welcome two members of that population to the FatKidOnFire family for FKOFd046. Stumbling across an intriguing tune on SoundCloud a few months ago, we started a chat with Substrada. As things developed, he sent a batch of tunes over and a few caught our attention - collabs between him and Caba. Two pretty under the radar musicians, but the quality of the tunes was next level. We ended up signing five tunes (the release and its accompanying FKOF Free Download) and got one of the grime forefathers to vocal one of them.

"FKOFd046 is a pretty heavyweight addition to our catalogue, even if we say so ourselves. We open with the tune that got the EP signed, Substrada's 'Doom'. It's everything you'd expect from a FKOF tune: beats, bass and space. Watch for that switch, too. Track two, the aptly-titled 'Calibre' sees Substrada's effort blessed by the mighty Riko Dan. It's a match made in heaven or hell (your choice) and has been doing some serious damage. Gas mark gas about having Riko on a FKOF tune! We then venture into the collabs, starting with 'Omen'. It's a dark and foreboding body of work, with its haunting synths and suffocating low end. 'Aku's Grasp' caused a bit of dialogue internally with the FKOF Records team, but we're still pretty comfortable it's one of the maddest tunes we've released. Industrial, threatening, edgy samples and impressive layout. Absolute levels from Substrada and Caba!

"As you can probably tell, we love this EP. It's been a pleasure to pull together, and has been a pretty positive re-affirmation that there's music out there that we can sign off a first listen. Having one of grime's founding fathers on the release doesn't hurt either. All in all, we're still vibing on these tunes. We hope you enjoy them as much as we do!"

We're back with the latest release from Moscow fam @united_gang. Here's rising star @ninetyxxxxxxxxx's 'Silk'...

'UNTD003' drops 27/07/2020 - pre-order via the buy link up shortly!

1. Ninety - Ambi

2. Ninety - Silk

3. Ninety - Grace

4. Ninety - Negative

"The third release from Moscow-based trailblazers 'UNITED' comes from Perm-born Ninety who, despite being situated in the very heart of Russia, has managed to find a unique hybrid of sounds reflecting both Russian and British influences.

"Establishing a somewhat eerie presence in the EP's opening track 'Ambi,' one only catches a glimpse of the arsenal at Ninety's disposal. Chimes ring out and a distinctive sub-heavy bassline growing bolder in its sound design and oscillations sets the tone for the rest of the tracks. In 'Silk,' and 'Grace,' Ambi further demonstrates the range of instruments and samples he is able to make use of- the distinctive guitars of 'Silk,' sit on a bed of appositely selected drum sounds which makes for one of the most unique tracks of the project thus far. The EP culminates with 'Negative,' a dubstep track of gargantuan proportions sporting a distorted flute which is set to echo across Europe and beyond across the coming years and decades."

The latest release from newly-resurfaced @wakeandbake-1 - hailing from Leeds - features material from NJ's @chawktaw_sound.

Here's a full length listen of the aptly titled 'W8', which drops Monday alongside 'Squba', which you can grab via the buy link. Get to know!

"Hailing from Ringwood, NJ, CHAWKTAW came up in the warehouses and basements of the Tristate area, pushing bass weight and circulating love in the 140 scene. Thirteen years honing his talents as a musician has resulted in a singular take on dubstep: a sound with an effortless groove, bubbling with energy. His influences range from punk to chiptune, hardcore to dub, and everything in between. CHAWKTAW’s compositions are filled with cosmic atmospheres and sentient wobbles, driven by a powerhouse of hefty bottom end. He strives to make listeners smile and, if they feel it, boogie a little. Spreading positivity through vibration."
