Where to start with Steph?

She's been instrumental in one of the most formative dances in 140bpm (DMZ), she's label manager at one of the most respected labels in the genre (@deep-medi-musik) and she works with some of the most innovative and excited producers/ DJs around (www.musikmatter.com).

Safe to say it's an absolute honour having her on here!

This mix is a version of Steph's set at zku – which she talks about in our chat – recorded recently digitally (as opposed to its original vinyl format).

FKOF Premiere!

The UK's @bassclash-records is up with its latest EP - calling on Rinse Fr's @djabsurd for the 'Unshared Love' EP.

Here's 'Friggle'. Hit the buy link to grab the release (which is out now) from the usual suspects!

"As they quickly approach their 60th release, the Bassclash Records crew drop another monumental dubstep EP. While their last release may have focused on the deeper side of the genre, this instalment from Rinse FM's DJ Absurd pinpoints the moody and dark vibes that first made many of us fall in love with Dubstep. The title track sets the pace in a fine way with haunting, eerie vocals laced with moody dark square wave synthesis plus crushing sub bass to boot. This nicely warms the seat for the enchanting, original vocals and energetic offset bass stabs of "Ti Ubesc." Oscillating, lead notes paired with whirling, low frequencies take the reins for "Blood River" while the closing piece, "Friggle" breaks the mould completely with its dulcet yet whimsical momentum and piercing distorted guitar licks."

FKOF Promo!

FKxF, or what we're (probably) calling FKOF Sequels or FKOFxtra, is a new digital imprint under the FKOF Records banner.

FKxF is a fresh start. With it, we move from the confines of 4 tracks at 140bpm that we have with other imprints and can flex our creative muscles with artists new and old to FatKidOnFire. There's no fixed release schedule so we sign what and when we like, and FKxF releases are exclusive to streaming platforms and the FKOF Records Bandcamp. Buy directly from us, otherwise stream away to your heart's content!

Our first FKxF release drops next Friday, 03/07/20, (pre-order live now) and is then available on all major streaming platforms the following Friday, 10/07/20.

2. WZ - Weirdo

3. WZ - Space X

4. WZ - Sublow

5. WZ - Love Pods

"FKxF001 sees us welcome Czech Republic's WZ back into the fold with a 5 track EP floating across a few different BPMs. If you've caught his FKOFd038 or FKOFv003 releases, you'll know why we rate this musician so highly and - if you're new to his sound - we hope you'll join us in enjoying this new material from David."

Latest release from our friends at @instigate-recordings featuring up and coming producer @mungkdubs. Here's a premiere of 'Modular', and you can grab this and the rest of the INSTi026 release next week, 29/06/20.

"Having secured himself several releases this year so far, Mungk joins the Instigate Family with a particular concept behind his productions. Drawing inspiration from different styles and techniques from popular electronic music. Experimenting with old school rave samples to analog synth sounds while combining this own unique twist to them with his hard hitting 808 basses and melodic synth endeavours."

LA-based @fortheheads is launching their vinyl imprint with an impeccable 4 tracks from FKOF fam @subtlemindmusic and @mrshlbeats.

Here's the title track off the record and it's awesome. This tune, and the other 3 on 'HEADS001', is out today. Hit the buy link to grab from the usual suspects!

"Off the heels of a few successful digital compilations, newly founded LA-based label For The Heads proudly kicks off their vinyl series with a 4 track collaborative EP from Subtle Mind & mrshl. All 4 of these cuts bring freshness and originality to the ever-growing 140 sound and are a meticulous blend of styles given both of the artist's virtuosity and creative ability.

"First, 'Built The Same' sets the pace of the EP with luscious chords and a prolific melody all wrapped together by its enticing low end. Next, the title track 'Can You Hear It' is a weighty number focused on its orbiting sub-bass and crisp percussion with a switch up that is sure to get any dance moving. On the B-side, an exceptional and unparalleled fusion of both modern synth-bass oscillations with the classical UK style groove and step of some jungle and garage is evident in 'When The Rain Comes'; all of this pieced together nicely with a jazzy saxophone sequence. Rounding out the EP, 'We're Alright Now' features a radiating, encircling melody that is sure to grab the attention of it's listeners with punching low end and soulful vocal shouts."
