FKOF Promo!

We’re six digital releases away from the big (FKOFd0)50. Crazy to think where we’ve got to over the last 7.5 years with the label! We’re continuing our effort to ramp up releases across FKOF Records’ digital and physical imprints over the remainder of 2020 (and beyond) and we’re really excited by the calibre and quality of material we’ve got coming. A continued big FKOF thank you to everyone supporting the music and, more importantly, our artists. So without further ado…

The second DiD feature sees me sitting down with Manchester-based DJ @Melissameltemdj. She’s been a regular on the airwaves – with sets on Subtle on Rinse FM – has played alongside some of the best upcoming names in 140bpm and graced the Garden stage at @ outlookfestival, supporting our friends at @deep-medi-musik.

Put simply, Melissa’s one of the selectors you need to know. We talked through what’s going on, how she’s coping with lockdown and a few things in-between. As always, we’ve also got an impeccable guest mix...

Latest debut from us to you: here's a sneak peek of upcoming London-based label @slipperysounds' first birthday compilation. Big up all involved!

'SSVA001' drops as a freebie May 1st. Get following on the socials and Bandcamp for links as and when the release is available...

"To celebrate a year of Slippery Sounds, friends of the label contributed a track which has resulted in a dance floor ready compilation. Venturing through garage, breaks, footwork and re-works, the release does exactly what it says on the tin, providing you with some serious flavours for the dance. Taking its title from the labels ethos, the compilation truly reflects the Slippery Sound.

"Hailing from West London, @innesav has been a resident on Balamii and Reprezent radio for years on behalf of Panel Audio, a label he runs with his two brothers. With a heavy output of bass oriented releases on the label, innes.av felt encouraged to start making his own music in 2018."

Reaching back out to the @dubrawcast crew for their latest release. This one's via @blackbarreldnb and drops in a few days' time...

'DUB.RAW005' drops 20/04/2020 and you can pre-order via the buy link. You can also hit DUB'RAW up on the socials to pre-order the record.

"Leo Cap is a dubstep alias of Black Barrel - Russian dnb producer with releases on Metalheadz, Dispatch Recordings & Sofa Sound. With such a powerful background of him there's big chance that you'll receive something special from the established artist on his first EP on a new territory. And you're getting this special ting on all 4 tracks of the EP without exceptions. There are three degrees of dancefloor pressure on the EP in the following order: 'Shake Your Flow' that have enough space for b’boy stances, 'Tremors' that makes pressure more obvious and dangerous, and finally 'White Eyes' that lefts no chances for all survivors. All these cuts works properly in right hands. 'Lost In Rave' without a doubt is the deepest cut on the EP that gives a listener great feelings of space and a rave trip. Tangible vibrations, to the core."

FKOF Promo!

It seems slightly odd to be celebrating with what’s going on around the world at the moment, but we’ll do what we can to support the FatKidOnFire family of artists in these uncertain times.

So with that in mind, we’re pressing on with our #FKOF10 plans (doing what we can to mark our first decade) and, if anything, trying to ramp up the frequency of releases on the digital imprint.

'FKOFd043' is available from the FKOFd Bandcamp and @junodownload tomorrow, 10/04/20, and will be available from all good electronic retailers two weeks later. Hit the buy link attached to pre-order the release...

1. Ourman - Out Here

2. Ourman - Phantom

3. Ourman - Nirdsong

4. Ourman - Lost Winds

"Our next FKOFd EP features a fairly prolific up-and-coming musician who's had a good stack of releases - both solo and collaborative - over the last 18mo or so. @ourmanmusic joins us off the back of three releases (either out or quickly impending) with DUPLOC, solo EPs with the crews at Instigate Recordings, Noizion, Sub Audio and Locus Sound and a few appearances on compilations. He's been busy. We got talking to Armand after signing his tune on the #FKOF10 release and have been able to pin him down for four choice cuts on the FKOFd043 EP.

"We open with 'Out Here', a gentler affair than the rest on the EP, which goes some way to demonstrate the producers talent across the 140bpm spectrum. Proper chill tune! If you like this one, you'll love Ourman's tune on #FKOF10. Track 2, 'Phantom' takes things down a notch with its grimey synths. It was one of the first tunes in the demos we knew we had to bag! 'Nirdsong' continues with its weight and brooding vibe - watch for the second drop. We close with 'Lost Winds', an atmospheric example of why we've signed this artist. Wicked sampling, great percs and a killer low end. The break is an especially nice touch.

"We've always done our best to support the up-and-coming artists in 140bpm, and we'll continue to do so - whatever happens. There's a lot of wicked music coming your way and we'll really stoked to welcome Armand to the FKOF fam with his debut EP. Keep your eyes and ears on our various platforms as we continue rolling out releases this year and please do what you can to help these artists in these uncertain times!"

Here's our latest Artist Highlight mix - this time with @nodulus on the decks all from the way from Siberia...

"I’m Denis, from a provincial town named Tyumen in Siberia, Russia. We have no quality parties here 'cause the quantity of bass-heads is too low and the level of culture is low.

"Even so, we have few promotional groups: Ёzhprom, Ghettizm and Stirka - with these guys we try to make the revolution against pop-listeners haha. Though for vast majority of time, we are students and workers. In addition, I’ld like to shout out to my friends from @united_gang and @dubrawcast - please check these guys for fresh releases.

"Stay home and enjoy my chill selection :)"

The one-and-only @alxzndr-1 joins the ranks of always-fuego imprint @scotchbonnetrecords, releasing four magnificent tracks of the now household producer itself. Our all-time favourite 'Red Raider' sees the light of day, and we couldn't be any happier to help spread the word about this mind-blowing release and premiere it.

'Red Raider' and three other tracks fit into the 'Golden Gate' EP and is highly recommended for both Dubstep and Grime heads. Take note!

'SCRUB022' is set for release on 27/03/2020 on both vinyl and digital formats - make sure to order your copy, as this very release brings Scotch Bonnet's discography to an even higher level than its discography in 2019.
