FatKidOnFire

Reaching out to @ttotton and the @united_gang for this one. It's been a while since someone's hit us up for a guest mix, and this is only the second time someone inside Russia's borders have recorded something for us. This one's full of heaters - so get to know @ttotton and his crew!

"toton is a DJ, promoter and designer from Moscow. Working alongside other Moscow-based artists like Moscow Legend, Oddkut, Big Alf and many others, UNITED is a collaboration of musicians, DJs and promoters who've built a following around regular dances influenced by UK bass music. Watch for the label dropping next month..."

FKOF Promo!

Here we are. Another year wrapped, our ninth in fact, and we're here with our final digital release of 2019 (and but not our final release of the year. More news on that very shortly). It's been another brilliant 12 months of releases, progress and music and we're really stoked on this latest FKOFd EP. And, as we've seen with the majority of our releases over the last 12 months, this is another new addition to the FatKidOnFire family...

'FKOFd041' is available from the FKOFd Bandcamp and @junodownload next Friday, 15/11/19, and will be available from all good electronic retailers two weeks later. Hit the buy link attached to pre-order the release...

1. Kodama - Rootmars

2. Kodama - Amour

3. Kodama - Spark

4. Kodama - Zzyzx

5. Kodama - Eluse [FKOF Free Download]

"Barcelona's @k-o-d-a-m-a has had a pretty eventful 2019 with rapid-fire releases across three imprints pushing the newer wave of 140bpm producers - Encrypted Audio, Silent Motion and, most recently, eatmybeat. He's worked with some of our favourite artists and is building a beautiful and evocative signature sound that caught our ears and eyes earlier this summer. FKOFd041 is a four-track EP that documents Kodama's take on our sound and is a great addition to our back catalogue of adventurous bass-led material.

"We open with the upbeat 'Rootmars', a glittering soundscape that travels through its three and a half minute duration with Four Tet-esque synths, warm subs and crackling percs. 'Amour' continues the theme and adds strings, vocal samples and an almost hip-hop vibe that's equally comfortable warming up the system for wall-to-wall 140 or a 3am wind-down. We'd love to see this one performed with a band live one day! 'Spark' is a slightly more 'traditional' FKOF beat (if there is such a thing!) with its rolling lows, crisp drums and key-led second drop. Watch this one mix with VIVEK's 'Against The Tide' - it's a blend. Lastly we have 'Zzyzx' which is, thankfully, an easier listen than it is to pronounce! An almost Nanobyte journey through luscious sounds and atmospheres. It's a great way to wrap FKOFd041; documenting Kodama's unique sound.

"We've had a pretty epic year with new material across our two imprints, and we couldn't have found a better EP to wrap 2019 for FKOFd. It's been wicked working with Kodama and we're excited to debut his Artist Highlight mix and FKOF Free Download alongside FKOFd041. Get to know - this producer's going places."

FKOF Promo!

We’re quickly approaching the tail-end of yet another year under our belts, with attention slowly but firmly to 2020 and the celebrations it’ll bring. It’s #FKOF10 (a decade of all things FatKidOnFire) and we’re stupidly excited to start sharing what we’ve got lined up to celebrate. But, in the meantime, because it seems our engines are finally firing on all cylinders after a bit of time off, we’ve got the latest FKOFd release for you. And, even if we say so ourselves, we’ve got four more monsters for your eyes, ears and definitely your subs…

'FKOFd040' is available from the FKOFd Bandcamp and @junodownload tomorrow, 11/10/19, and will be available from all good electronic retailers two weeks later. Hit the buy link attached to pre-order the release...

1. Kwizma - Mariana

2. Kwizma - Sidewinder

3. Kwizma - Tananum

4. Kwizma - The Mog

“Looking back to the roots and early beginnings of FatKidOnFire, there were two DJ mixes that epitomised the 140bpm sound, hooked us in and set the standard for everything we’ve done since. The first, and not much needs to be said about it, is Caspa and Rusko’s FABRICLIVE.37. If you know, you know. The second is Kryptic Minds’ FACT mix 241. FACT241 dropped the summer FKOF opened its doors and has been a consistent fall-back for 140bpm mixes that inspire gunfingers and bass faces ever since. With the duo behind the mix parting ways a few years ago to focus on solo projects both within and outside the genre we all know and love, there was a bit of a gap in bass-led music that evokes the Kryptic Minds sound design, vibe and raw power. Sure, we had a few years of everyone trying to be KM and making ‘dungeon’, but not many got it right then and few have tried since.

"But then we discovered @Kwizma and all seemed right with the world. Hailing from the musical hotbed that is The Netherlands, Christian has seemingly put an up-to-date spin on the type of tunes Kryptic Minds were making in their dubstep heyday and built a loyal and engaged following around the world while doing so. Quite right too, if you ask us. Stark atmospheres, impeccable sound design, haunting vibes and more pressure than a sub addict can ask for. Here’s FKOFd040…

"‘Mariana’ sets the tone with its punchy percussives and rolling low end, clattering through your chest with a warming approach to 140bpm. Next up, we have the murky depths of ‘Sidewinder’, which is 2019 ‘dungeon’ (as much as the term evokes a good cringe) as it should be. Trust us on this one. Then anthemic ‘Tananum’ drops with its kicks, spacious mix and sumptuous synths. Steppers forward for this one! We close out Kwizma’s EP with ‘The Mog’, announcing itself with tribal vocals, raw power and the kind of kick drum that’ll annoy the neighbours (or destroy the dance, your choice).

"We’re excited to welcome Kwizma to the FatKidOnFire family, and we’re excited to see what the producer does next. We’ve heard a few more of the dubs he’s sat on, so watch this guy. There’s more heat coming if you dig his FKOFd040 EP and, if we’ve learned anything about you lot over the last ten years, we’re pretty sure you will…"
