Kevin Shinn owner of a now closed restaurant called Bread & Cup that was in Lincoln Nebraska and author of a book of the same name. Coming this spring Kevin will open up The Portico which is Chef Shinn’s “private one-table-per-night, as Kevin refers to it, “micro restaurant”.  I am thankful for the knowledge and conversation that Kevin provided me. He talked with me about how he got his training through staging at high profile restaurants before opening his own place. Oh yeah we also talk about nature and ants?!

We hope you’re safe and warm and I can safely say that on this episode you will be listening about one of the top meals the Faturday crew has ever had and it was at Yoshitomo. Dave “Yoshitomo” Utterback has been nominated for the prestigious James Beard award and he and his staff gave our official First Annual Faturday Feast that sense of holiday wonder.  The full complement of Faturday, that being Dave, Sam, and TJ, were given a gift of an experience we won’t forget as our minds and hearts were touched in the form of a wonderful meal.

It’s Food Recognize Food with Ashish and Kim Sathyan of Kinaara, a delicious Indian focused restaurant in the Millard area of Omaha. Kim and Ashish are not just the owners of Kinaara, but are foodies at heart. We will travel through Omaha, to Paris and the Kerala region of India through our conversation, and the episode has an excellent wrap up with how Ashish honors meaningful dishes from his past.

Naan nom noms as the Faturday crew catches curry at Astoria Biryani House! Dave was able to eat in and experience the Thali which is a wonderful way to introduce yourself to Indian food if you haven’t had it before. Even if you have had this delicious cuisine you’ll have a fun time with this sampler that travels from appetizer to dessert. We got more than that and you’ll find out if TJ’s chicken dish was indeed 490 more (give or take) than the Chicken 65.

Charcuterie and Cheeseburgers, it’s a double feature of Food Recognize Food. We start with Jasmine Deane owner and artist of Good Life Charcuterie, her locally sourced product, and of course where she likes to eat. Jasmine is new to the Omaha area, but she has adopted it as her home and Omaha has adopted her. She is busy making things happen for small to large grazing tables.  Then in the second half we talk with Gary Todd, owner of Muncheese 402 a new late night delicious burger spot that features fun egg rolls like the Italian inspired Mama Mia and a burger our Burger Boss Sam would approve of called the Boss Burger.
