The Hon.Brian Peckford is the last living contributor to the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, and is widely considered an expert on the matter. He is also currently suing the federal government for breaching his mobility charter rights.

On April 19, 2022, Mr. Peckford gave a powerful speech at the Legislative Assembly in BC, laying out several things that he believes we need to do as Canadians in order to effect positive change for our future. After 2 years of professional and relational struggle for many regarding the vaccine mandates, we all just want to move on. However, the procedures and protocols of some major academic institutions are making that moving on almost impossible.

Over the past months, and weeks, many university students have had to make the tough decision of whether or not they would get the 3rd covid shot in spite of feeling coerced, or halt their studies indefinitely. Ethics scholars are weighing in on the issue afresh with the rise in vaccine complications in young people such as myocarditis.

Our guest today, Dr. Julie Ponesse, is one such scholar. With a Masters in Philosophy and a Specialization in Bioethics. Dr. Ponesse has published in the areas of ancient philosophy, ethical theory, and applied ethics, and has taught at universities in Canada and the US for 20 years. She joins us today to tell her story of how her 20-year academic career fell apart after refusing to comply with the Canadian university’s covid vaccine mandate. She is now with the Democracy Fund as their ethics scholar, focusing on educating the public on civil liberty, mandates, and ethics in Canada’s universities.

Very few can claim the achievement of crossing Canada on foot or by wheelchair.

In 1984: Steve Fonyo crossed the nation and raised $14 million for Cancer research.

In 1986: Rick Hansen, crossed the nation by wheelchair to create awareness of the potential of people with disabilities and to find a cure for paralysis after spinal cord injury.

In 1991: Al Howie ran from St. John's, NL to Victoria, BC in 72 days, 10 hours and 23 minutes.

In 2002, Ann Keane ran from St. John's, NL to Tofino, BC in 143 days

In 1980: Terry Fox embarked on an east-to-west cross-Canada run to raise money and awareness for cancer research. The spread of his cancer eventually forced him to end his quest early and cancer ultimately took his life, his efforts resulted in a lasting, worldwide legacy that is recognized to this day.

Add to this list our guest this week. James Topp is a warrant officer with 28 years in the Canadian Armed Regular Force Infantry. Topp was recently placed on leave without pay and is currently in the process of being released under item code 5F, “unsuitable for further service”, due to his refusal to take the covid vaccine.

As a form of peaceful protest, he across Canada, meeting with federal leaders such as Pierre Poilievre, Dr. Leslyn Lewis, Roman Baber, Maxime Bernier and others to share his personal experience and advocate for others with similar stories. He joins us today to talk about why he felt to do this march at this time, the response he’s been receiving from Canadians, and what he hopes to accomplish long term.

Domestic and personal security has become an increased concern among many Canadians these past few years, and you don’t have to look far to see why. Mere months after Prime Minister Justin Trudeau stated forced quarantine camps were a conspiracy theory, Canadians were being sent to converted hotels, on their own dime, without their consent.

Fast forward to today, and in order to re-enter Canada, Canadians must disclose personal medical information via the ArriveCAN app, and some Canadians are still being forced to quarantine for two weeks upon entry.

In addition, two major airports (Montreal and Toronto) have partnered with the World Economic Forum on a digital ID system to track Canadians, and the World Health Organization is brokering a global pandemic treaty that would override domestic security when it comes to managing future pandemics. Lastly, Environmental Social Governance, which would require small and medium-sized businesses to track the carbon footprint of every product and service they create, is being considered.

The common theme in all this: is tracking, tracking and more tracking.

Many Canadians are asking questions about where this is all going—and where it stops.

Joining us to talk about this exact question is Dr. Leslyn Lewis. As a federal leader with three master’s degrees and a Ph.D. in international law, she brings an invaluable perspective to the table with her insight into these matters.

The federal government is moving towards imposing a requirement to reduce nitrous oxide emissions from fertilizer in Canada. The goal is a 30% reduction by 2030 under the banner of fighting climate change.

Farmers, their associations, and provincial governments are all sounding the alarm that this will likely result in smaller food crops and higher costs for Canadians.

A similar policy was tested in the Netherlands in 2020. It caused a massive social backlash there, with Dutch farmers travelling to their capital in tractors, similar to the truckers’ convoy here in Canada. Many Canadians wonder if something similar will happen again if these policies get pushed in Canada.

Joining us today to discuss the issue is former Minister of Agriculture, the Hon. Gerry Ritz. He served in this capacity from 2007 to 2015 in Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s cabinet.

When the pandemic first began in early 2020, most Canadians took the approach of following the government’s protocols without questions and watching how things would unfold.

Many of our faith leaders have had to wrestle with the issue of complying with the government mandates, often citing Romans 13, which exhorts believers to submit to governing authorities, and weighing that up against other scriptural instructions telling believers not to forsake the assembly, to pray for each other with the laying on of hands, and to sing in the midst of other believers.

Some churches went exclusively to online services, while others felt convicted to stay open. This deep divide was further complicated due to mounting evidence that some federal mandates were not scientifically based.

Our guest today has grappled with all of these tensions firsthand. After initially going along with the mandates, Pastor Che Ahn of Rock church in California challenged the legality of the measures, sued the State of California, and won.

He joins us today to share his personal story of why he felt the need to take this stand.

July 30th was World Day Against Trafficking in Persons. Human trafficking continues to be a massive issue—both in Canada and abroad.

It is estimated that 35 million people are trafficked every day worldwide (close to Canada’s population). Trafficking increased during the pandemic, with Facebook and Instagram seeing a 100% recruitment increase.

Montreal-based Mindgeek and PornHub is the 10th most visited adult content website worldwide and has been caught sharing non-consensual material. Despite this, they have not yet been charged.

On this show, we are diving into the issue again and looking at a success story from Newmarket, ON, where city councillor Grace Simon has successfully taken up the fight—leading the charge in banning massage parlours in her city.

From June 22-24th, something groundbreaking took place in Canada called the Citizen’s Hearing: Examining Canada’s Covid Response.

Through this inquiry, participants heard firsthand live testimonies from scientists, legal experts, healthcare providers, and everyday citizens about how the management of Covid-19 impacted their professional and personal lives.

The hearing was held in response to the rising demand of citizens wanting questions answered about the management of Covid-19 (by all levels of government).

Questions explored during the hearing included:

Were the measures taken by governments in Canada appropriate to the threat?

Were they based on sufficient clinical and statistical evidence?

Were they suitably focused? How effective were they?

Were there conflicts of interest at play?

Was there enough emphasis on prevention and early treatment? On informed consent?

Was sufficient debate permitted? In attempting to prevent COVID, what other maladies were we ignoring or fostering?

Notable national leaders such as The Hon. Preston Manning, and former CBC journalist Trish Wood, were just some of those who helped moderate the discussion.
