Last Friday I sat down with some good friends of ours, Brendan and Sharon Witton. They are pastors of Toronto City Church, a thriving multi-ethnic faith community in the heart of Toronto. Sharon is a black Canadian. Brendan is a caucasian Canadian. They are married. They are national leaders. They are amazing.
We had a candid conversation about what is happening right now in our nation in the wake of George Flyod's murder.
We talked about Sharon's personal experience in Canada and wrestled with how we can move forward in a spirit if love and reconciliation in a 'real' way.
At the end of our conversation we pray together for our nation.
Our heart in sharing this conversation is to help bring healing, authentic conversation (not glossing over some of the elephants in the room) and hopefully deeper understanding.
We love you and we love Canada.
Please join with us.
When COVID-19 hit Canada a few months ago all the parties in Parliament decided to suspend normal Parliamentary activities to focus on managing the crisis and to comply with health recommendations surrounding social distancing.
Few expected Parliament to be suspended until September. As of a late May Parliamentary vote, this is precisely what is happening.

On this week's show we are re-airing an insightful interview with Doug Sharpe from the National Leadership Briefing. Also joining me is the Hon. Candice Bergen, Leader of the House for the Official Opposition (CPC) to unpack why they are concerned that Parliament's suspension is extended.

Earlier today hundreds of New Brunswickers rallied in Fredricton at the Legislative Assembly.
The gathered to express their concerns regarding Bill 11 which, if passed, would legalize mandatory vaccinations province wide for children accessing public schools and daycares.
A legislative committee met today to look at the bill and it is expected to come to final vote shortly.
Critics of the bill say that it is an infringement on parent rights in accordance to Section 2 of the Charter or Rights and Freedoms.
Those who are concerned about this bill are encouraged to contact New Brunswick MLAs.
UPDATE: The committee ran out of time today. The bill is first up on their agenda tomorrow.

MANDATORY VACCINATIONS? - As our governmental leaders grapple with how to protect Canadians from a potential 2nd wave of COVID-19 front and centre has been the push for a vaccination.
At the same time some jurisdictions are already overtly, or subtly, edging towards making vaccinations mandatory in order for Canadians to access some public services & benefits.
See this article from the Saskatchewan Herald - https://saskatchewanherald.com/…/call…/…
The question remains as to how far this may reach and which vaccinations it may include.
To add urgency to the conversation, New Brunswick is expected to vote in the next couple weeks on a mandatory vaccination bill for children attending public school (Bill 11).
This week I have two very articulate and knowledgable guests on the topic of mandatory vaccinations.
They are:
Ted Kuntz, Vaccine Choice Canada
James Kitchen, Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms
Gun violence has been on the rise in recent years, particularly in urban centres. Over these past weeks the Liberal government has brought forward policy to take assault weapons out of the hands of law abiding citizens.
Advocates of the policy say assault weapons have no place in Canada. Critics say that it is wasteful and misguided to focus on law abiding Canadians when these crimes are done by criminals who almost always use illegal weapons. $600 million is being pledged to taking guns back from law abiding citizens. Under $100 million to fighting illegal gun smuggling.
The conversation is on.
This week we are airing an interview with Jamil Jivani who almost radicalized as a young man.
In Grade 11 Jamil was moments away from owning an illegal gun and entering into a life of crime. At the last minute he had a change of heart and decided to chart a new path for his life.
Years later he is a lawyer, award winning advocate and author of Why Young Men - Race, Rage and the Crisis of Identity.
This show was recorded before the Nova Scotia mass shooting and before the recent crack down on guns by the Liberal government - yet Jamil's insights are incredibly insightful for the days we find ourselves in.
On this week's show, I am joined with 3 special guests, discussing the National Prayer Breakfast & 50 Year Anniversary since the abortion caravan.
My first guest is MP Cathay Wagantall, who among many other things, is the Chair of the National Prayer Breakfast happening this week on May 7th.
The National Prayer Breakfast normally takes place in Ottawa with distinguished guests from all parties participating. Due to COVID-19, this it took place online (this morning). Visit www.nationalprayerbreakfast.ca
This week is also the 50 year anniversary of the abortion caravan when a group of women travelled from BC to Ottawa to demand unrestricted abortion in Canada.
With me this week to discuss is Dr. Laura Lewis from Pregnancy Care Canada & Laura Klassen from Choice42.com. Both of these women work hard to raise awareness on the issue of life in Canada & support women in crisis pregnancy situations.
In the interview, we also discuss how COVID-19 has been impacting pregnant women in crisis situations.
Lastly, we want you to know we are praying for you and your loved ones as we all continue to navigate COVID-19 and it's impact on our personal worlds. If you have a prayer request don't hesitate to let us know.
CORRECTION NOTICE: Across Canada at affiliated pregnancy care centres there were 34,449 client visits, 1,684 babies born to clients, and 120 infants placed for adoption. A Different number was spontaneously quoted in the interview segment with Dr. Lewis.
Just prior to COVID-19 I was in studio with author, speaker, researcher and video blogger Brett Ullman speaking about effective parenting. Given that so many of us have been quarantined with our children and forced into homeschooling we wanted to share this with you at this time.
In this interview we talk about how to build connection with your children, family traditions and investing now to prepare your children for their future.
The Hon. Stockwell Day is no stranger to navigating challenging times as a national leader. He was the former Official Leader of the Opposition and held several cabinet positions during the Harper era. He was also in office when the Twin Towers were hit on 911 and helped steer the nation through the 2008 economic hit.
He is normally a CBC commentator with Power and Politics but with suspended broadcasts he was able to join with us. We are grateful.
On this show we talk about his life as a person of faith in politics and also dive right into the issue of the day: COVID-19. He gives several strong insights for the moment we are in.
We hope you can join us.
Hello everyone. We are praying for you and your loved ones at this time.
In light of all that is happening with the fight against COVID-19 we pulled a show out of the archives from our very first season to re-air. It is with Dr. Matt Tonnos.
Dr. Matt is a respected chiropractor and health & wellness coach. He dedicates his time to helping Canadians be the healthiest they can be.
We pray this show gives you encouragement and some practical tools that you can apply right now to ensure you that you and your loved ones remain healthy and strong.
Bless you.
Faytene & Team
