Sydney five piece SHERLOCK’S DAUGHTER have just completed their debut EP with Jono Ma from Lost Valentinos. In their short career they’ve already toured with School of Seven Bells and Temper Trap as well as rocking festivals like Playground Weekender and the Laneway Festival. They are currently working on their debut album, but here is a track off the aforementioned EP.

It’s been a while since we’ve heard from Melbourne based trio, INFUSION. Since releasing their second album Six Feet Above Yesterday in 2004, the band have been extremely busy. They have taken home two ARIA awards and circled the globe a number of times, playing some of the biggest festivals such as Coachella, Roskilde, Glastonbury, Big Day Out and Splendour in the Grass amongst others. They’ve also played alongside icons like David Bowie, N.E.R.D, Basement Jaxx and New Order. Most of the past two years has been spent in the studio working on their highly anticipated new album, All Night Sun Light. Self-produced and self-released on their own imprint, Futuresque, here is a sneaky first taste of the album ahead of it’s release in June 2009.

This Sydney based five piece first came to our attention when they walked in one of our Music Open Days with a bunch of demos in tow. We instantly shared their tracks on the air, all of which the band crafted in their makeshift studio, a garage in Sydney's Northwest. They continue to work in their home studio, the latest offering being their debut EP. On the Beforecast this month we have the second single off the EP.

Formed at the tail end of 2008, this Sydney Four-piece spend their time jamming in their boatshed rehearsal space in Sydney’s western suburbs. They’ve only played a handful of shows so far and are looking to put out a 7" some time this year. For the moment their DIY recording approach is to set up a dictaphone in the corner of the jam room. Here’s the first results, a track called Surprise off their demo.

Melbourne born, now London based fourtet TEMPER TRAP caused quite the stir with Sweet Disposition, the first track from their forthcoming debut album, Conditions. Produced by Jim Abbiss who is responsible for records by UNKLE, Arctic Monkeys and Adele, the lads were named as one of only fifteen rising stars of 2009 by the BBC. Conditions is due out in June 2009. Exclusively to the Beforecast this month is a remix of the latest single, Science of Fear by HERVE. Herve is London producer/songwriter/DJ Joshua Harvey, who also records as The Count (as in The Count & Sinden), Voodoo Chilli, Action Man, Dead Soul Brothers, Speaker Junk and Young Lovers.

This Townsville six piece have been featured on the Spunk Singles Club compilation. This track is off their debut EP, Recordings Of The Middle East, released May 2009. They’ve played shows with Bill Callahan aka SMOG, Adelaide’s Leader Cheetah and Sydney’s own Devoted Few.

DANIMALS is 21 year old artist Jonti Danimals who was born in Johannesburg, South Africa. He was brought up on South African Music by his uncle before discovering acts like The Beach Boys, Stereolab, Madlib and J Dilla. You can also see him on stage as a member of Sydney group Sherlock’s Daughter but as Danimals, he often uses gaming consoles to record and play live.

Great Earthquake is the project of Noah Symons. Also a visual artist, Noah makes music with a similar feel to how you might witness a drawing being created. He has self-produced and recorded five albums in the last two years. Heavily influenced by the luscious surroundings of his home in Mt. Dandenong in Victoria. This is the first track off his album, Patterns in Nature.

Starting out as an MC in the late 90s, URTHBOY is one of the founding members of Hip Hop group, The Herd and also the label manager of independent label, Elefant Traks. They’ll be releasing his 3rd solo album, Spitshine in August 2009. The first taste off that is this track, produced by Sydney duo, Hermitude. This Sydney based Hip Hop duo originally hail from Uganda and Belize with Kween G and Belizean Bombshell drawing inspiration from their respective homelands. The girls first met at the 2000 Olympic Games where they were individually performing. Renowned for their high energy shows, they were nominated for Best Live Performance at the inaugural FBI SMAC Awards. They’ve performed alongside the likes of Public Enemy, South Rakkas Crew, Tha Alkaholiks and plenty of other touring hip hop acts. Their debut album Sistarhood will be released in April 2009. It includes production from South Rakkas Crew, Katalyst, M-Phazes, and guest appearances by Buff1, Ru C.L., Spit Syndicate, Lady Chann and a bunch of other MC’s. This track was recorded by FBi at our night at Sydney Festival’s Becks Bar where the ladies supported Portugal’s Buraka Som Sistema and is totally exclusive to the Beforecast.

This Sydney based 8 piece formed in 2008 and since then have released a self-titled 4 track demo EP. We’ve been playing the more uptempo track, Not Nobody on FBi so here is another tune from their debut demo. Look out for another EP from them sometime later in 2009.

This Sydney group has been featured on earlier Beforecasts with previous singles and remixes. They can also count themselves as one of our firm favourites, chalking up lots of airplay on 94.5fm.We had our first taste with The Bismarck, which was released through Bang Gang 12” at the tail end of 2008, and mow the debut album, Cities Of Gold, is due out in mid 2009. They’ve spent the last two years working on the album with Scottish producer Ewan Pearson (The Rapture, M83) across Sydney, London & Berlin. This episode we present their second single, Serio - cut up and put back together by KNIFE MACHINE, which is Jono & Pat from LOST VALENTINOS.

Based in the NSW Blue Mountains, BROKEN CHIP uses traditional instruments and homemade software with an aim to foster experimentation rather than conventional song writing, Influenced by everything from Autechre to Kraftwerk to old pianos, computers and Nintendo DS. His latest album is Pow Wow 7. The Pow Wow series was conceived by Sydney independent, artist-run record label Feral Media with the aim to give quality left-field music a focus and an outlet to be enjoyed. So enjoy this track off Pow Wow 7!

This Melbourne quartet features members of Minimum Chips, KES Band, ZOND and The Ancients. They released their debut album in 2005 and were invited by The Dirty Three to perform at All Tomorrows Parties in London in early 2008. Their second release is actually a double album, the first disc being, Easy (recorded between January 2006 and March 2007), and the second House Music (recorded between August 2007 and September 2008). It contains 31 tracks all up, all recorded at home. Have a listen to At the Gate off ‘Easy’. The double album is released in April 2009 through Sensory Projects.

MADE IN JAPAN – Invertuoso

MADE IN JAPAN started off like many other bands – a couple of mates, some beers and a house party. The Sydney group have only been together a short while, but they’ve steadily gained a profile on the Sydney live circuit and have recently released their debut EP. This is the lead track off it.

SHAZAM – Pool Party 2009

This super talented 19 year old musician and producer from Perth learnt to play keys at age 3, started making tracks on a Casio at age 10 and acquired a Moog from his high school science room at age 16. Fast forward a couple of years and he’s spent the last 12 months remixing Dizzee Rascal, Munk, Empire of the Sun, Pase Rock, Muscles and more. Now he’s set to release his debut release, Pool Party, through Bang Gang 12”. It’s inspired by his days spent sipping goon cocktails in the spa at his family house and it contains 3 original tracks and remixes from Headman, Hey Today & Rogerseventytwo.

This 21 year old hails from the rugged heartland of the New South Wales

south coast. His parents were roving ministers in the 80s and 90s, giving

him a childhood deep in Sunday gospel sessions. He started teaching himself

guitar at the age of eight, the first song he learnt was Cats in the Cradle.

In late 2004 he formed a collective of accomplished South Coast musicians

who called themselves, The Midnight Express, and began gigging. This

eventually led him into the studio where he laid down his debut EP, 4

Tracks. Lifted from it, this is the single SCARLET ROSES.

Sydney based 5 piece whose band members are all around 16-17 years old and

still in high school. They draw their influences from diverse eras like 50s

surf rock through to 90s shoegaze. They are hoping to have an EP out later

in 2009 and have started getting regular gigs around Sydney. For the moment,

we¹ve got a demo version of MARY for you to enjoy.

Melbourne based artist aka Tim Shiel, who crafts everything in his modest

home studio and is completely self-financed and self-released. After

releasing his debut album Entropy Begins at Home in 2006 ­ a former FBi

Album of the Week ­ he has been working on his next album. He¹s set himself

the deadline of his birthday, june 28 2009, but in the meantime as a thank

you to those patiently awaiting the follow-up, he has uploaded a teaser that

you can download at his website, iamfauxpas.com. Look out for the

full-length album later in 2009.

A nifty little trio from Sydney, who don¹t mind it if you call them The

Philly Jays and also want you to know that they have beards! They formed at

the start of 2008 and will be spending the first half of 2009 on the road

steadily touring with the likes of Belles Will Ring, Washintgon and Hungry

Kids of Hungary as well as playing Big Day Out and Laneway Festivals.

They¹ve recently supported The Grates, Dr Dog, Rocket Science, bLuejuice and

Sparkadia. They¹re about to release their double A-side 7² in March 2009 on

their own record label, Å’Normal People Making Hits. On one side is Going To

The Casino (Tomorrow Night), and on the other is READY TO ROLL, which we¹ve

got for you in this episode of the BEFORECAST.

Adelaide four piece WOLF & CUB return with the second single off their

forthcoming second album due for release in February 2009. The album was

recorded with Bumblebeez main man Chris Colonna in his hometown of Braidwood

in the ACT. Here we¹ve got one of the b-sides off the digital release of the

single, it¹s a remix from Sydney duo Dept. You might have caught their

Sparkadia remix on Episode 22 of the BEFORECAST. If not, Dept is the

marriage of Purple Sneakers head honcho PhDJ and self proclaimed musical

supernerd Black Anthony. They¹ve also pumped out remixes for Walter Meego,

Yacht, Pop Levi and Bluejuice.

Originally from the Blue Mountains, CLOUD CONTROL first formed when Heidi and Ulrich, the two siblings in the band, met Alister and Jeremy during a production of Pirates of Penzance in 2006. This track is originally from their self-titled EP, but gets reworked by SULO, the producer for Sydney Hip Hop outfit, The Herd and member of Elefant Traks collective. The remix is available now as a part of the digital release of Death Cloud, the first single from their forthcoming debut album, which is due out in Autumn 2009

MIAMI HORROR - Don't Be On With Her

MIAMI HORROR is a 22 year old DJ/Producer who started out playing house parties and regular weekly club nights around his hometown of Melbourne. He has worked on a number of remixes for the likes of Pnau, The Presets, Faker, Datarock, Party and Midnight Juggernauts. A very busy lad indeed, he also spends time spinning the beats for Melbourne group Gameboy/Gamegir. This is the first taste of his Bravado EP and features vocals from Josh Moriarty, singer & guitarists from Melbourne bands Young and Restless and Peacocks, The EP is available from November 15 2008.

APSCI – Under Control

APSCI is New York bred Raphael LaMotta and Sydney singer and M.C Dana Diaz-Tutaan. They’ve played at South By Southwest in Austin, Texas, as well as played alongside Coldcut, DJ Numark & Spank Rock. After releasing their debut album in 2003, they are now ready to drop album number three, Best Crisis Ever. This is the first single from their new album due out in 2009.

REDSUNBAND – Heartbreaker (SPOD remix)

Sydney trio REDSUNBAND have just released their second album, The Shiralee, which they recorded in 10 days in Melbourne’s Hothouse Studio. In true DIY style, the album was completely self-funded thanks to endless touring in 2005 and winning the Jessica Michalik songwriters grant in early 2006. Here they unexpectedly join forces with one man party superstar, SPOD who has just released his new album Superfrenz and remixes the redsunnband tune, Heartbreaker.

POLO CLUB – Shouldn’t Let Him Out

POLO CLUB is the result of Melbourne’s MC Urban Monk teaming up with Producer Camelot the Cameleon. They started collaborating in early 2007 and in their short career they’ve impressed the judges in Victorian band competitions and have also snapped up support slots for the likes of Muph & Plutonic, The Herd and the UK’s Rodney P & Skitz. This track is an early peek at their forthcoming debut album.

SPARKADIA – Too Much To Do (DEPT. remix)

Sydney based four piece, SPARKADIA, formed in 2004 and this particular track first found it’s way to FBI when it was just the band’s first demo. They’ve since gone onto re-record it for their debut album, Postcards. Here it gets reworked by new Sydney duo DEPT. Dept is the musical collaboration of PhDJ from Purple Sneakers and self proclaimed musical supernerd Black Anthony. They’ve knocked out remixes for Walter Meego, Yacht, Pop Levi and Bluejuice plus a bunch of others in their short production career. This is an exclusive remix for FBi’s Beforecast.
