When we give ourselves the responsibility of predicting peoples’ needs, we also give ourselves the power of predicting peoples’ needs. It begins as a way of maintaining homeostasis and safety, but becomes a way to coerce people into feeling how you need them to feel. Not with ill intent, with the same quest for safety, just with assumed authority. Suddenly we're deciding what others need, "saving" them when they don't need any help and plowing right through their boundaries because we've deemed them unnecessary.
