Advanced Air Mobility Edges Toward Commercial Launch(excerpts)
By CHARLES ALCOCK • Managing Editor
March 7, 2026
Seasoned observers of the approach path to bringing eVTOL aircraft into service can be forgiven for having to suppress yawns. Self-proclaimed frontrunners in this crowded field—mainly start-ups hungry for fresh capital—have long teased investors with the prospect of commercial returns being just around the corner, only to then quietly concede that the certification process and other groundwork for the advanced air mobility (AAM) ecosystem is taking longer than they had hoped.
In China, two eVTOL models are already certified and flying restricted missions. Meanwhile, U.S. manufacturers such as Joby and Archer are forging partnerships in the UAE with a view to launching some early trial operations there ahead of FAA certification. How that will work remains unclear, but that hasn’t quieted the cheerleading.
Closer to home, multiple U.S. states, teamed with private sector partners, are bidding to launch early use cases through the eVTOL Integration Pilot Program (EIPP) unveiled in June as part of the Unleashing American Drone Dominance executive order. The states seeking to embrace the new mode of transportation include Florida, California, Texas, Georgia, Michigan, New York, Nevada, Utah, and Ohio.
According to SMG Consulting, which focuses intently on the AAM sector, between five and seven EIPP flight-test programs could get underway this year. According to company founder Sergio Cecutta, these are expected to focus mainly on cargo or emergency medical operations and might, in some cases, include revenue-earning flights. In his view, the initiative is significant in giving aircraft manufacturers the chance to test real-world operating environments before certification.
However, SMG has ruled out any powered-lift eVTOL passenger-carrying aircraft completing FAA type certification in 2026—as has been widely anticipated, at least by the AAM start-ups concerned. Cecutta told AIN that, based on the number of flight hours required in certification-conforming aircraft with type inspection authorization (TIA), it will take at least another 18 months before the FAA pilots conduct the flights needed to conclude the approval process.
As part of its New Year’s predictions, SMG envisioned that both Joby and Beta Technologies (with its Alia CX300 model) will begin TIA “for credit” flights in 2026. In China, the company expects Aerofugia, AutoFlight, and Volant to achieve the same milestone.

Aviation Fuel Prices Climbing amid Middle Eastern Chaos
By CURT EPSTEIN • Business Aviation Services Editor
March 5, 2026
The turmoil in the Middle East resulting from the U.S. and Israeli attack on Iran is impacting the world fuel markets, as Iran vowed it would shut down commercial shipping traffic through the crucial Strait of Hormuz. Over the past week, the price of Brent crude oil jumped by 15%, from $70.77 a barrel to more than $81, while West Texas Intermediate (WTI) rose by nearly $9 a barrel.
Spot prices for Jet-A in the U.S. averaged $3.23 a gallon yesterday, up from the five-day average of $2.70 per gallon. Retail jet fuel prices at some Northeast U.S. business aviation hubs reached $10 per gallon, while at Los Angeles-area Van Nuys Airport (KVNY) they were hovering around $7.
“In the initial reaction to the events, no petroleum market has been spared,” said Denton Cinquegrana, chief oil analyst with energy commodity analyst OPIS. “Gasoline prices are up, the national average for retail diesel has topped $4 per gallon, and jet fuel prices have skyrocketed over the course of the past several days.”
Cinquegrana told AIN that while fuel prices may spike, he does not expect operators to encounter any shortages. “Despite the higher prices, U.S. product supplies are expected to be fine, as U.S. refiners are particularly advantaged compared to others around the world.”

Data Shows Scale of Middle East Bizjet Displacement
By CHARLES ALCOCK • Managing Editor
March 5, 2026
While business aviation in the Gulf states remains largely grounded by the ongoing military conflict with Iran, data from WingX reveals the extent to which traffic patterns have shifted since Friday. In the week spanning February 23 through March 1, overall business departures from airports in the wider Middle East region declined by 10%—from 1,086 in the previous week to 981.
The data released on Thursday shows that despite the dip in traffic caused by the outbreak of hostilities early on Saturday, 371 aircraft did depart from Middle East airports. Many of these appear to have been moved to seemingly safer locations within or close to the region.
For example, Oman, through which a partially-open air corridor is now being used for some evacuation flights, saw a 220% increase in business jet arrivals between February 27 and March 1, while Cyprus had a 92.9% increase, followed by Greece (35.3%) and France (14.3%). Turkey received almost a quarter of the flights leaving the region, though its airports actually had 20.5% fewer arrivals than the same period in 2025, which WingX suggested means the country is seeing some negative impact from the conflict.
“Overall, the 30.8% decline in total outbound flights versus the same period last year underscores the severity of the demand shock in the Middle East,” WingX stated.
As of 7:15 p.m. UTC on Tuesday, WingX’s live parking data showed 164 business jets grounded at airports across the Middle East with an average duration on the ground of 4.5 days. By 12:25 p.m. UTC on Wednesday, the number of aircraft fell to 140 with an average parking duration of 4.9 days.
The majority of these jets were in Istanbul and Dubai, with others spread across the Gulf, as well as in Israel and other Turkish cities. International SOS warned that the interception of an Iranian ballistic missile in Turkish airspace highlighted the threats to operations beyond the core warzone, with the potential to trigger wider involvement by NATO states under the terms of the organization’s Article 5.
ExecuJet Middle East told AIN that its FBOs at Dubai International (OMDB) and Al Maktoum International (OMDW) airports have remained operational. “Our teams remain focused on supporting clients and operators while closely monitoring the evolving situation and coordinating with the relevant aviation authorities,” a spokeswoman said.
Since the conflict started, International SOS has evacuated more than 300 people and has responded to more than 2,200 cases on behalf of clients. Requests include difficulties in securing vital medications for stranded travelers.

FAA Accepts ‘Zero Engine Taxi’ Certification Plan
By HANNEKE WEITERING • Science & Technology Editor
March 5, 2026
The FAA has approved Green Taxi Aerospace’s certification plans for its “Zero Engine Taxi” system for airliners. In a March 3 announcement, the Plano, Texas-based start-up said the FAA had reviewed and accepted the compliance checklist summary and conformity plan drafted and submitted by StandardAero, Green Taxi’s certification partner.
Green Taxi’s system uses electric motors installed in an aircraft’s landing gear to maneuver the aircraft during ground operations without powering on its main engines. The motors draw power from the auxiliary power unit, allowing aircraft to push back and taxi using purely electric power.
According to Green Taxi, the FAA’s concurrence will allow certification work to proceed under StandardAero’s organization designation authorization (ODA), enabling the Scottsdale, Arizona-based MRO specialist to conduct delegated certification activities on the FAA’s behalf as the Zero Engine Taxi program progresses toward its first supplemental type certificate (STC).
The company says the system could reduce fuel burn, emissions, and engine wear while removing the need for pushback tugs. Green Taxi estimates airlines could save as much as $300,000 annually per aircraft through reduced fuel consumption and maintenance.
For its first retrofits, Green Taxi is targeting regional jets such as the Embraer E175, for which the company expects to obtain STC approval next year. In late 2025, Green Taxi partnered with Delta Air Lines to begin exploring operational deployment of the technology.

作者:Charles Alcock(执行主编)

Curt Epstein

Charles Alcock

作者:Hanneke Weitering(科技编辑)

Magnifica Air Unveils First Jet Ahead of 2027 Launch
February 26, 2026
Semi-private carrier Magnifica Air revealed its first aircraft at Florida’s Orlando International Airport (KMCO) earlier this month: an Airbus Corporate Jet ACJ321neo that will be configured for the start-up’s planned 2027 service launch. The long-range jet is the first of four aircraft Magnifica Air will operate in what it calls Private Class, a service category that falls somewhere between traditional first class and private aviation. Each aircraft will be configured to carry approximately 54 passengers.
The ACJ321neo, which offers a maximum range of approximately 6,100 nm, will now enter a 10-month interior completion phase. Magnifica Air co-founder and CEO Wade Black said the carrier is delivering “a new cabin category built around how people want to travel today.”
“The arrival of our first ACJ321neo is a defining operational milestone,” said Kevin Ketterer, vice president of technical operations at Magnifica Air. “It enables the launch of our maintenance and reliability programs, integrating predictive technologies and dedicated support services designed to deliver the level of consistency expected from a new cabin category.”
At NBAA-BACE in October, the company disclosed plans for a fleet combining Airbus A220s and A321neos. Operations are scheduled to begin in 2027, with service between South Florida and New York.

Joby and Uber Reveal Electric Air Taxi Booking Platform
February 26, 2026
Joby Aviation and its partner Uber have released a preview of the mobile app interface that will allow Uber riders to book flights on Joby’s four-passenger eVTOL air taxi.
The new aerial ride-hailing service—dubbed “Uber Air powered by Joby”—builds on the Uber Elevate platform that Uber began developing in 2016 and subsequently sold to Joby in 2020. As part of the acquisition deal, Uber remained a strategic partner on the program and invested a further $75 million in Joby, following a $50 million investment earlier that year.
“With Uber Air, riders will be able to book Joby’s electric air taxi through a simple and familiar, one-tap experience on Uber, seamlessly connecting every leg of their journey,” Uber chief product officer Sachin Kansal said in a joint statement.
Joby and Uber also recently announced plans to integrate helicopter and seaplane services into the Uber app, leveraging Joby’s 2025 acquisition of Blade Air Mobility’s charter brokerage. The partners have said that passengers will be able to book Blade-arranged helicopter flights through the Uber mobile app as early as this year.
Announcing the “Uber Air” moniker on Wednesday, Joby also reaffirmed its commitment to launching electric air taxi services in Dubai this year as the California-based manufacturer continues to trudge through the FAA certification process back home.
“We plan to carry our first passengers this year in the UAE as part of our six-year exclusive access to the Dubai market,” Joby founder and CEO JoeBen Bevirt told investors during a quarterly earnings call on Wednesday afternoon. “Here in the U.S., we expect the government's EIP program to provide us with the opportunity to demonstrate our service in several locations, also this year,” he added, referring to the White House-backed eVTOL integration pilot program.
Bevirt explained that the first production-conforming JAS4-1 eVTOL aircraft intended for FAA type inspection authorization (TIA) testing is “now ready to fly.” All five of the additional aircraft that Joby plans to use for TIA testing are “in different phases of construction,” he said. Joby expects its new 728,000-sq-ft factory in Dayton, Ohio, will help the company achieve a production rate of four aircraft per month in 2027.
Having closed the 2025 fiscal year with $1.4 billion in cash, Joby believes it now has the capital it needs to fund certification, scale manufacturing, and launch commercial air taxi services.
In the fourth quarter, Joby generated $30.8 million in revenue but reported a net loss of $121.5 million. For the full year, revenue totaled $53.4 million, whereas the net loss widened to $929.8 million, reflecting hefty certification and manufacturing costs. In 2026, the company expects revenue to range from $105 million to $115 million, while anticipating continued cash burn as it progresses toward certification and scales production.

Archer Plans Starlink Connectivity for Midnight eVTOL Aircraft
Feb 27, 2026
Archer Aviation plans to equip its Midnight eVTOL air taxis with Starlink satcom terminals that will provide in-flight Wi-Fi for passengers and an aircraft-to-ground data link for operators, the company announced today. Under the agreement, Archer could be the first company to install and test SpaceX’s satellite internet system on a commercial eVTOL aircraft.
In addition to Midnight, Archer said it will also work with Starlink on a connectivity solution for its “future development of autonomous aircraft.” While Archer has yet to reveal any specific plans for an autonomous air vehicle based on the Midnight aircraft, its electric propulsion system has been selected to power a defense drone being developed by its partner Anduril.
Archer’s Midnight aircraft is designed to carry four passengers on five- to 15-minute flights across cities, cruising at altitudes between 1,500 and 4,000 feet. Starlink relies on a constellation of low-Earth-orbit satellites rather than ground towers or geostationary spacecraft, a configuration Archer said is suited to dense urban environments where cellular coverage can be inconsistent.
“Connectivity is a must-have feature for Midnight, [and] Starlink is uniquely built to deliver it," said Archer co-founder and CEO Adam Goldstein. “This industry-first collaboration will enable seamless, high-speed connectivity and essential amenities for our passengers and pilots.”

1. Airbus Drones Make Singapore Airshow Debut
By CHARLOTTE BAILEY • Writer
February 2, 2026
In a first for its Singapore Airshow presence, Airbus is presenting a dedicated area focusing on its uncrewed aerial systems (UAS) offering, something the manufacturer says underscores its “growing position as a key player in the UAS market.”
UAS solutions on display include Airbus Helicopters’ Flexrotor VTOL tailsitter, the Aliaca family of UAS it acquired from Survey Copter in October, and the Sirtap high-performance tactical drone developed by Airbus Defence and Space. Assembly of its first Sirtap prototype was completed last June, ahead of a ground-testing campaign scheduled to run throughout 2026.
Increased market traction for its drones was reinforced during the company’s January earnings call, during which Airbus Helicopters CEO Bruno Even noted that integrating UAS systems into the company’s core operations was helping create a “comprehensive range of tactical drones.”
“By combining drones with our advanced and unique HTeaming capabilities, [Airbus can] provide a seamless, networked ecosystem for the modern battlespace,” Even added. According to Airbus, its HTeaming solution “offers additional mission capabilities by extending sensor range far beyond the aircraft’s line of sight.”
In March 2025, Airbus signed an agreement with Australian aerospace start-up Drone Forge to collaborate on the development and operational integration of the Flexrotor UAS. At the time, Airbus explained: “Designed as a force multiplier for diverse missions...this partnership signals strong confidence in our Flexrotor capabilities and offers perfect crewed-uncrewed teaming possibilities for aircraft operators.” The Flexrotor system is designed for intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance missions ranging from 12 to 14 hours and can accommodate a variety of payloads.
Various other Airbus military aircraft will also be appearing, including a German Air Force A400M and a Republic of Singapore Air Force A330 MRTT and H225M. A full-scale mock-up of the military H145 variant will also be on display.

3. Singapore Airshow Gains Altitude with Inaugural Space Summit
By HANNEKE WEITERING • Science & Technology Editor
January 31, 2026
The 10th edition of the biennial Singapore Airshow opens this week with a new addition to its program: the inaugural Space Summit, a two-day conference and exhibition dedicated to the rapidly expanding global space economy.
Organized by Experia Events, the same company behind the Singapore Airshow, the Space Summit takes place on February 2 and 3 at the Sands Expo and Convention Centre at Marina Bay Sands in downtown Singapore.
Under the theme “New Frontiers: Shaping a Responsible and Inclusive Space Future,” the Space Summit agenda includes plenary sessions and panel discussions focused on space infrastructure, regulatory frameworks, sustainability, and commercialization pathways.
The inaugural Space Summit arrives at a pivotal moment for the global space sector and for the Asia-Pacific region, Leck Chet Lam, managing director of Experia Events, told AIN.
“The global space economy is really growing at a very fast pace,” he said. Meanwhile, “Asia-Pacific is one of the fastest growing economic regions in the world, and one of the things that these growing economies are looking for are space-related services,” Lam said. For example, the region has seen increasing demand for satellite-based services such as GPS navigation, communications, Earth observation, climate monitoring, and national security applications.
“There's a very huge drive with a huge demand in this growing part of the world for space technologies and space applications, so that's also another key driver for us in wanting to launch this show,” Lam said.
For Singapore Airshow attendees, the Space Summit offers an early-week opportunity to engage with an adjacent sector that increasingly overlaps with aviation, defense, and advanced manufacturing—underscoring how space is becoming an integral part of the broader aerospace ecosystem.

4. China’s Low-altitude Economy Takes Off
By JENNIFER MESZAROS • Contributor - Asia
January 28, 2026
While China looks ahead to the Year of the Fire Horse, 2025’s Year of the Snake marked a period of foundational growth and regulatory milestones for the country’s emerging low-altitude economy and the broader socio-economic ambitions the government says this will bolster.
Covering airspace below 1,000 meters (3,280 feet)—and, in some instances, up to 3,000 meters—the sector has seen increasing liberalization to support uncrewed aircraft systems (UAS) and electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, alongside traditional general and business aviation models.
With China’s 15th Five-Year Plan pushing the expansion of strategic emerging industrial clusters, the low-altitude economy is now being shaped by regional strengths—from Guangdong’s coastal manufacturing hubs to high-altitude testing in plateau regions such as Qinghai. By the end of 2025, China had established a growing repository of regulations and technical standards to support the emerging sector.
At the national level, the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) released draft airworthiness standards for certain classes of UAS and powered-lift aircraft, along with technical specifications for rotorcraft, propellers, and civil water aerodromes for amphibious aircraft. The State Administration for Market Regulation issued mandatory standards for UAS identification and real-name registration, while the Central Air Traffic Management Office released specifications for integrated low-altitude supervision platforms, unifying airspace management from national to municipal levels.
Complementing these efforts, the Chinese Society of Aeronautics and Astronautics, together with state-backed Aviation Industries of China (AVIC) and other partners, published its first technical guide on building digital models of low-altitude airspace. Shenzhen issued low-altitude trade secret protection guidelines as the city aspires to earn the self-declared title “World eVTOL Capital” by 2028, while Guangdong introduced its “Twelve Measures,” providing financial support for industry clusters across research and development, manufacturing, operations, and integrated banking-insurance-equity services.
December also saw China’s National Development and Reform Commission roll out a statistical classification that defines the scope and core industries of the low-altitude economy, to guide policymakers and enterprises in developing the sector. At the same time, President Xi promulgated the revised Civil Aviation Law, effective July 1, directing the State Council and Central Military Commission to manage low-altitude airspace, with a special chapter supporting general aviation development.

Shanghai Low-Altitude Flight Service Center to Launch on, Suishenban App for One-Stop UAV Services
January 21, 2026
From February 1, 2026, the low-altitude flight safety supervision measures jointly launched by multiple Shanghai departments will take effect, with the Shanghai Low-Altitude Flight Service Center opening simultaneously to provide one-stop services including flight applications and airspace inquiries. Shanghai has previously issued the interim measures for UAV flight safety management and defined flyable airspace, which accounts for 46% of the city's administrative area and covers the airspace below 120 meters true height in green zones. Flights of micro, light and small UAVs in this area require no application, and the rest is designated as controlled airspace.
By 2025, Shanghai had nearly 800 registered UAV operation enterprises, about 220,000 real-name registered UAVs and an annual flight volume of over 3.2 million sorties, yet unauthorized UAV flights have posed safety risks. Citizens can now complete UAV registration, flight declaration and experience zone reservation via the Suishenban App. For flights in controlled airspace, applications must be submitted before 12:00 on the previous day with results available by 21:00 the same day. After approval, confirmation on the platform is required before takeoff and after landing, and an elderly-friendly mode will be launched on the platform later.
Three sites including the Expo Culture Park are designated as consumer UAV experience zones, with the first two accommodating 50 aircraft each and Shanghai Botanical Garden 30. Shanghai police launched a crackdown on unauthorized UAV flights in August 2025, investigating 3,366 cases, with a sharp year-on-year rise in voluntary registration of pilots and UAV owners. A six-month airspace safety special campaign will be launched to strengthen supervision and law enforcement. Relevant departments also urged users to fly in accordance with the law to build a safe low-altitude flight environment.

ICAO Introduces New and Improved Volcanic Ash Forecast
January 16, 2026
The International Civil Aviation Organization has launched an upgraded Quantitative Volcano Ash forecast information service, delivering more comprehensive analysis for aircraft operators. This service not only forecasts the location of volcanic ash in the atmosphere, but also predicts the specific quantity of ash present.
The new service came into effect late last year. Before its global rollout, two out of the nine specialist Volcanic Ash Advisory Centres—those in London and Toulouse—will take the lead in providing the upgraded Quantitative Volcano Ash forecasts.
Eventually, all nine ICAO-designated Volcanic Ash Advisory Centres around the world will issue detailed forecasts by combining volcano monitoring data, satellite observations, ground-based observations, aircraft observations and forecasting models. ICAO recommends that all nine centres should start issuing Quantitative Volcano Ash forecasts by November 26, 2026. Until then, conventional forecast charts will continue to be provided in parallel.
This new service is capable of issuing forecasts on volcanic ash concentration and occurrence probability for airspace up to 60,000 feet in altitude, divided into layers of 5,000 feet each. The forecast data is updated every three hours and is provided free of charge to all registered users. An Aeronautical Information Circular released by the UK’s National Air Traffic Services stated that Quantitative Volcano Ash forecasts will offer higher-resolution details, presenting both a single, precise forecast snapshot for a specific time point and longer-term trend projections within the impact scope of a volcanic eruption.
Matthew Hort from the UK Met Office said that aircraft operators can now use certified engine susceptibility data to volcanic ash for flight route planning. This measure will help improve operational efficiency while complying with the relevant requirements of safety management systems.

Global SAF Market To Reach $50 Billion by 2036
January 19, 2026
A new study released by UK-based market analyst ID TechEx predicts that the global sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) market will rise to $50 billion over the next decade. By 2036, the combined annual capacity of SAF and renewable diesel—closely linked in processing—may exceed 67 million tonnes, boasting considerable overall industrial growth potential.
Last year, the UK and EU successively introduced SAF-use mandates, establishing mandatory market demand for this low-carbon fuel. Eve Pope, the report’s author, stated that with the advancement of global decarbonization and further implementation of relevant regulations, SAF demand will keep rising steadily.
Nearly a dozen SAF production pathways have been officially approved worldwide. The mainstream hydroprocessed esters and fatty acids (HEFA) process mainly uses used cooking oils, animal fats and greases as feedstocks. However, the total supply of such feedstocks is limited, with a noticeable supply gap expected around 2030. Emerging pathways like alcohol-to-jet (ATJ) can effectively fill the gap. LanzaJet’s facility in Georgia, USA, officially launched commercial ATJ production last year, with an annual capacity of 9 million gallons, becoming the world’s first large-scale facility of its kind. Pope noted that the high-cost challenge of new processes needs to be gradually addressed through technological breakthroughs and improved regulations.

Frax’s “Banner Year” Boosts Global Bizav Ops Finish
January 19, 2026
Argus International’s latest TraqPak report shows global business aircraft operations ended 2025 strongly, with a 4.2% year-over-year (YoY) rise in December. North America grew 2.1% that month, while Europe posted its eighth straight YoY gain at 1.3%. Argus expects this momentum to continue this month, with North America up 3.8% YoY and Europe 1% higher.
Travis Kuhn, Argus senior vice president of software, said December’s data met expectations, wrapping up a year of strong growth in North America and globally. In 2026, focus remains on large-cabin aircraft, Part 91 activity (general aviation operations conducted under the U.S. Federal Aviation Regulations), and the fractional market’s robust growth.
In North America, 11 of 2025’s 12 months saw YoY gains, except February (compared to 2024’s leap year). Fractionals had a “banner year”, rising 8.4% YoY in December; Part 135 (on-demand commercial air charter services) edged up 1.6%, while Part 91 (non-commercial general aviation flights) dipped 0.2%.
By aircraft, midsize jets led December growth (4.4%), followed by light jets (2.7%) and turboprops (0.8%). Large jets fell 1.2%, with Part 135 large-cabin ops down 5.6%, while light-jet fractionals surged 9.8%.
Europe’s 1.3% gain was driven by large-cabin (5%) and midsize jets (3.9%), offsetting turboprop and light-jet declines. Elsewhere globally, ops soared 11.1%, with all aircraft types up—light jets led at 20.8%.

FAA’s BVLOS Overhaul Approaches Finish Line
January 2, 2026
With the FAA now deep into its review of public comments on a long-anticipated proposal to allow routine beyond-visual-line-of-sight, or BVLOS, drone operations, 2026 is shaping up to be a pivotal year for the U.S. drone industry—and potentially for aviation more broadly.
The new rulemaking, which could be finalized as early as the end of the first quarter of 2026, is designed to enable scaled, routine drone operations without the need for individual waivers or exemptions.
If approved, it would represent the most consequential shift in U.S. drone policy since 2016, when the FAA introduced Part 107, the first comprehensive framework for commercial small UAS operations. That rule allowed only daylight flights within visual line of sight, with BVLOS operations handled on a case-by-case basis.
Under the FAA’s proposed rules, operators would be able to conduct routine BVLOS flights below 400 feet, using drones weighing up to 1,320 pounds, without seeking special approvals.
The proposal would replace today’s waiver-based system with a unified, risk-based regulatory framework, developed in coordination with the Transportation Security Administration. It is intended to support applications ranging from package delivery and agriculture to aerial surveying, public-interest operations, training, and flight testing.
To do this, the FAA proposes creating two new regulatory sections: Part 108, covering operational requirements for uncrewed aircraft, and Part 146, establishing certification pathways for third-party services such as automated data providers and uncrewed traffic management systems.
The rule has drawn more than 3,000 public comments from across the aviation ecosystem, underscoring just how central BVLOS capability is to the future of drone and low-altitude operations in the United States.

CAAC Releases Two Mandatory National Standards for UAV
December 24,2025
Recently, the "Requirements for Real-Name Registration and Activation of Civil Unmanned Aircraft" and the "Specifications for the Identification of Civil Unmanned Aircraft System Operations," prepared under the organization of the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), have been approved and released by the State Administration for Market Regulation (Standardization Administration of China). These two mandatory national standards will officially take effect on May 1, 2026, promoting a safer, healthier, and more orderly development of the industry.
In recent years, alongside the rapid development of China's low-altitude economy-related industries, the civil unmanned aircraft industry has grown swiftly, playing an increasingly important role in driving economic restructuring and transformation and promoting economic and social development. According to the "2024 Statistical Bulletin on Civil Aviation Industry Development" released by CAAC, in 2024, nearly 20,000 entities had obtained UAV operation certificates, the number of registered UAV exceeded 2 million, and the cumulative annual flight hours within the statistical scope surpassed 26 million hours, with a maximum of 26,000 UAVs simultaneously in the air. To further enhance the safety of unmanned aircraft operations, CAAC took the lead in formulating the "Requirements for Real-Name Registration and Activation of Civil Unmanned Aircraft" and the "Specifications for the Identification of Civil Unmanned Aircraft System Operations" to ensure the lawful and compliant operation of civil unmanned aircraft. These standards implement the requirements stipulated in national laws and regulations for UAVs to actively transmit identification information, to enable reliable monitoring of their operations.

FAA BVLOS
