Paul wrote Colossians to strengthen the church against false teachers. He opened the letter by praying for the Colossians to grow in knowledge and their walk with the Lord. Then he set the foundation of his response to the false teachers by highlighting the supremacy and sufficiency of Jesus. In today’s passage, Paul builds on his picture of Jesus by establishing the richness of the gospel.

Last week we introduced the theme, Nothing More, Nothing Less, Nothing Else. This week we will develop that theme further. Paul wrote this letter to counter false teaching that had entered the church. The core of this false teaching was that the Colossians needed more than Jesus to be accepted by God and to live a holy life. Paul countered this teaching with an amazing picture of Jesus.

Today we crack the book of Colossians – a book that shouts that we need nothing more, nothing less nor nothing else than Jesus.

A good church is a church that honors both men and women. To do that we must recognize that Men and Women have equal value but different roles in the local church.

To date, what would you say was the worst hurt to ever come to you? Is the perpetrator someone that you could forgive? Is it someone that you could ever trust again? Paul wants us to understand that God can forgive and even use the repentant sinner.

Most would love to see the church of Jesus Christ significantly grow in the U.S. and locally as well. What are we missing? Though the answer may be a multifaceted one, the heart of it has to do with an FBC Core Value we plan to tackle today. "We believe in winning the world one person at a time." Jesus illustrates.
