In this episode we have a change of venue, are shocked at the evil of Lady Dolphington, and try to distinguish between a flat and a leg. The Color Purple continues to be remarkable and tragic. We learn of a terrible debagging conspiracy, a mysterious dress, and a vast amount of confusing undergraduate information. The Host descends into a network of secret caves which reminds Arthur of a Dwarven Glory Hole, and the Autograph Man is a bit sort of in-betweeny-not-very-muchy or to put it another way: "Joycean".

We all feel very positive about the Color Purple, although we have little to say about it. We spend an inordinate amount of time working out exactly which part of Camille is cherubic. We are still embarrassed to enjoy the Host, and excited by undergraduates in Gaudy Night. Alex Li Tandem continues to be a dick, and we wonder if Shim is stoned, and also what on Earth happened in Lavinia?

We are still utterly delighted by Cotillion, despite the fact that some of us have no idea what is going on with it. The Color Purple is by turns heartbreaking and weirdly romantic. Peter Whimsy finally shows up in Gaudy Night, and an Oxford college is struck with a terrible spate of trolling. We remain uncertain about the host, and begin to go sour on The Autograph Man.

We make the Talking About Kevin joke yet again, and Jamie finds nice things to say about Middlemarch, while Contest is really quite expositoiny and also daft.

We eat cookies, also talk about books. We are delighted by the arrival of Freddie in Cotillion, disappointed by the lack of murders in Gaudy Night, still a little torn about Lavinia (which is apparently better if you know Latin), and surprised by how faily The Host isn't (although it keeps ... using ... ellipses).

We find to our sorrow that George Elliot is no Wilkie Collins, and Arthur is extremely worried about a puppy. Several of us come around on Kevin, which sounds less appropriate than I intended.

All this plus gangbangers, sacred trees, and skeevy cultural appropriation.
