  • #39. From Rookie to Diamond with Ceelows
Hey All!Still recovering some sort of bug. -_-. Anyways, I came across Ceelows on twitter when I saw his Gold to Platinum guide. After looking at his teaching style I had to have him on the show. The bulk of our conversation was circulated around this topic. We briefly cover a few topics such as the upcoming Riot game and a few other topics.

Sorry in advance for my audio issues. I don't know what happened and I feel it would be disrespectful to my guest to not post this.

Thank you to everyone for our support! Social Links to Ceelows Below.

  • #38. The Art of Teaching Fighting Games, Commentary Tips, and More with Ace of Spuds
Episode #37 w/ Ace of Spuds
I first saw Ace of Spuds on twitter when responding to a post by r/SF. From there we communicated via twitter and then eventually invited him to the show. This conversation is a middle point in an ongoing challenge that is teaching/coaching fighting games. My hope is that this is just the start of a conversation, and I hope you all are able to contribute.

Sorry in advance for any discord noises you may hear! I failed to separate the voice and PC audio. Unfortunately, I’ve had a bad cough and had to mute myself several times.

  • #35. How To Achieve Your Dream Job
It's possible to have the life you want, but it's not easy. It's time we revisit living life on your terms, so I've got my top tips for attaining your dream job.

Lately, I've been thinking about what it takes to get to the next level. I've been too stuck on the "have-not" rather than focusing on where I am now and what I want. This prompted me to ask myself, "how did I get to where I am?"

  • #34. How to Build Muscle Memory and Why It's Important
    Hey all,

I've been thinking about the bests way to improve. One topic I want to revisit muscle memory. I've been learning many things at my job at Western Michigan University and as such, I started to notice teaching certain topics proved difficult. Similarly, I found explaining how I played FANG in SFV to be challenging. I realized that I had internalized many of the sub-skill required to perform tasks. As someone who enjoys teaching, I found this curious.

Recently I've decided to learn Akuma in SFV. I wanted to start from scratch and train in a more productive manner. I wanted to develop the most important skills and commit them to muscle memory. I wanted my body to naturally reach without having to think about what to do. I knew that this would free up mental spaced to think more deeply about my opponent and his/her tendencies. This episode is a short dive into this topic.

Be sure to share your thoughts in the comments section.

  • #33. My Experience Hosting My First Esports Training Camp
    Hello All,

It's been a crazy 4-5 weeks but it's finally over! I've finished running my first summer camp focused on personal development and competitive gaming. These were week-long camps, and we did 4 separate weeks. 2 with 5th to 8th grade, and 2 with 8th to 12th graders.

In this episode, MegaMaxStar and I talk about my experiences during the camps. I share what the curriculum was, how it went and what I've learned. At the time of recording this, I was just finishing up my second week. I plan to post another episode talking about my overall experience with working with the older campers.

I'm super grateful to Western Michigan University for giving me this opportunity and I look forward to doing it bigger and better next year.

One thing I have to address...
My content has slowed down to nearly a halt. Much is happening in my life (mostly good) and as a result, my content is really taking a hit. On top of that, I've started to find my content stale and I have no idea of what direction I want to go. My standards have gone up but my content quality has not. I don't yet have the answer to this dilemma. I do know that I want to think you for sticking with me.

I also want to thank the people who reach out to me on social media to check-in. It means so much and I will forever be grateful. If you have any suggestions or topics you want me to cover, reach out and let me know.

  • #32. Burning yourself out to achieve goals
    Hello all!

As of uploading this, I'm at Combo Breaker 2019!

It took a while to get this episode out due to audio difficulties, but the show must go on.

Recently I had a Smash Bros. Tournament in an esports arena for Western Michigan University. I share how it went, and then get into how that event leads to my body physically shutting down. Burnout or exhausting is a very serious topic and I want to share my tips and solutions with you all.

As always I'm joined by MegaMaxStar as my cohost. You can find him at https://www.youtube.com/user/megamaxstar

Feel free to reach out on my social media on twitter @ThePhilocypher if you have questions!

Also, if you're interested in getting a free trial of audible go to www.taviannapier.com/audible. You get a free month AND a free book at no cost to you. If you end up keeping the account it also helps out this podcast.

  • #31. Life Updates and DBFZ 1.15 Patch Conversation w/ MegaMaxStar
    DBFZ 1.15 Patch

    Intro
A few things I need to talk about.

For those who want to get right into the DBFZ patch conversation you can skip to this time in the podcast.

First, I’ve gotten very busy with parenthood and esports. I’m not a fan of the fact that my content has slowed down but other areas take priority. That said FGC is not coming to a halt, just slowing down until I can get back on all four cylinders.

Second, I’ve learned three things I’d like to share with you. There are things I’ve learned the hard way from doing too much. I hope that these things can help you as well.

Don’t bite off more than you can chew.
I’ve had to humbly ask for help and reduce the amount of work I’ve been putting in. It’s Okay to say, “I’m doing too much and need to slow down.” This was hard for me to accept but after last week (which I’ll talk about in the next episode) I’ve had to cut back on what I’m doing.
    Be more organized.
The more you’re doing the more important this becomes. As more and more moving pieces are introduced it’s important to categorize and keep track of everything that’s going on and anyone involved. I’ve studied tools and techniques to help me stay on track. This isn’t quite FGC related but let me know if you want me to make an episode on this topic.
    Plan better.
The higher my standards get the better my planning has to become. There are no shortcuts to this step and it’s one I’ve spent very little attention to lately. If you have any sort of goal planning is crucial to making it happen.

Now that I’ve got that out of the way let’s talk patch notes!

MegaMaxStar joins me once again to give me information on this new DBFZ patch now that everyone has let it sink in.

I haven’t had a chance to learn as much as I’d like about the patch so Max has been here to keep me informed as he’s been playing this game very regularly. He’s been putting out tutorials on his channel so be sure to check those out. https://www.youtube.com/user/megamaxstar

Thank you, everyone, so much for being there for me. It’s helped me to get through some rough times.

    Eternally grateful,
