"For God, who said, 'Light shall shine out of darkness,' is the One who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God iin the face of Christ. But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the surpassing greatness of the power may be of God and Not from ourselves."

For all who have repented and believed, God has transferred the righteousness of Christ to their "accounts," and on the cross of Christ, our sin was transferrred to the One who was sinless. By faith, we are forgiven and made righteous before God. This reality is "The Blessed Transfer." Praise God!

Romans, as elsewhere in the Word of God, makes clear that salvation is by grace through faith in Jesus Christ alone. For centuries, this central and foundational truth of Scripture, justification by faith alone, has been shadowed by alternative philosophies which teach essentially that "God helps those who help themselves." The gospel of Christ makes absolutely no room whatsoever for boasting in ourselves, since our justification before God is by faith in Christ alone.

The question, "How are we saved?" is the most serious and controversial question in the history of the Christian church. We arrive at a text of Scripture this morning which articulates the classic Christian doctrine known as the doctrine of justification by faith.

What is your greatest problem? Have you ever given this question a bit of thought? Today, we discover from the Word of God what is our greatest problem.

Paul's theology allows no room for the carnal Christian, one who takes Christ as Savior, but does not take Him as Lord. In the first two chapters of Romans, Paul has been building an air-tight case regarding the wrath of God to be poured out on all unrighteousness and ungodliness of men who suppress the truth of God. Now, Paul brilliantly anticipates the responses of his hearers.
