One of the great understatements made by family advocate, Dr. James Dobson, was when he said, “Parenting isn’t for cowards!” No kidding! Godly parenting is hard, relentless work. Parenting in a manner which is Christ-centered and biblically-based requires consistent diligence, intentionality, sacrifice, and an unrelenting expense of time and effort...coupled with TONS of unceasing prayer and grace! Today, we examine a parent’s most critical mission. In this critical mission, we must not fail. Much is at stake.

Judges 16

How many of us REALLY take sin seriously? Do we grieve over our sinfulness? The Bible makes clear that God takes our sin seriously. In fact, the Bible says, “The wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Rom. 6:23, NASB). This morning, we look to the life of Samson as an example of how dangerous sin is in our lives.

A common misconception about God is that His loving nature would not allow Him to condemn anyone to eternal punishment. However, as we shall see this morning, this misconception strays far from biblical truth. This morning, we seek to answer, from Scripture, the question: “Why would a loving God send people to hell?”

For the follower of Christ, evangelism is a personal responsibility. While most Christians would agree with this claim, many are anxious about or inactive in their engagement of a culture which is lost and far from God. The sermon today is geared to encourage us to re-engage our circles of relationships with the intent of sharing Christ with those who are lost.

- Jesus was quite adept at connecting with the lost of His day.

- Jesus was criticized for His affection for the lost.

- Jesus was careful to communicate His love for and value of the lost.

One great truth is abundantly clear in the Word of God: the Lord Jesus loves the lost. God loves outcasts and sinners. God loves the poor, the wealthy. God loves the plumber and the lawyer. “The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance” (2 Ptr. 3:9).

As Christ-followers, what should we look for in a church? Is it facilities, programs, staff, or even the people who comprise the church? Today’s message is an attempt to identify three characteristics every serious Christ-follower should look for in a church.
