We tend to define our worth by comparing ourselves to others. We are always looking to see how we measure up. We believe the lie that we can use comparison to get rid of our insecurities rather than realizing that comparison is demonic. Belief in the gospel makes us secure in our identity in Christ. The gospel shows me it’s not about what I’m not, it’s about who He is.

We struggle to trust in God’s provision and protection and try to fight our own battles. As long as we do this, we will miss seeing the power and glory of God in our circumstances. God often puts our back to the wall so that we’ll stop trying to save ourselves. The gospel proves that God can do for us what we cannot do for ourselves. We must learn to be still and let God fight the battles that we cannot. When we do, we will see his salvation over and over again.

We get frustrated when life doesn’t go the direction we want it to, and we often leave God in search of a “better” way forward. God uses every zig and zag of life for a divine purpose, whether we realize it or not. We must look at the unexpected pathway of the cross to see that God knows where He is going. All we must do is pursue His presence each and every step of the way.

When you forget what God has done for you, you forget what you owe Him – your very life. God redeemed us with a strong hand and a high cost, giving up His own firstborn to be the lamb to redeem us. We must treasure the price He paid and live for His glory (unleavened lives).

We tend to forget what we should remember. God wants us to remember that He is faithful to always keep His promises. When we see God come through, we need to remember that He will be faithful again. When we are intentional to remember how He was faithful behind us, we can be filled with confidence that He will be faithful in every circumstance that is in front of us.

We tend to think that God is either loving or just, but it’s difficult sometimes for us to see him as both. Jesus shows both love and justice through the cross. Just like the Passover lamb shows us God’s love for his people, Jesus shows us his love by going to the cross as a substitute for us. This plague shows us God’s justice against the Egyptian people, but God pours out his justice against us upon his only son, Jesus. We have a call to share that love and justice with others.

Our rejection of God (and His ways) brings darkness and death into our lives. God didn’t just send the plagues on His enemies but absorbed the plagues on the cross as His firstborn was killed to redeem His people. If we keep that in our minds, trusting Him will always make sense.

We struggle to humble ourselves before the Lord, so we constantly find ourselves fighting against sound advice, reason, and even the Lord because of it. God wants all people to know Him and come to Him, but they must come on bended knee. One day, all will do so by choice or by force. The decision is ours.

We often deal with our sin by trying to manipulate God by giving him lip service. It is a fake repentance. We don’t want to change; we just want our punishment to change. We can’t manipulate God. He isn’t interested in lip service and fake repentance, but in surrender and godly sorrow of the heart that leads to true repentance without regret. Repenting and believing in the gospel not only changes your punishment, but it also changes you.

When we persist in our unwillingness to trust in God by faith, our heart grows increasingly more and more calloused until we are no longer sensitive to God at all. We must watch out for the point of no return when God accepts our rejection of Him. In Christ, we have the ability to soften our hearts to God and find faith in Him. The gospel gives us the courage to take the leap of faith and discover the abundant life He has for us. We must not harden our hearts against Him but let His Spirit soften our hearts toward Him.
