August 1st is the deadline for the International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT) and United Parcel Service (UPS) to agree on a contract, and Teamsters across the country are showing that they are ready and willing to go on strike if their demands aren't met. Our guest today, Tanner Fischer, is a UPS package car driver, president of Teamsters Local 90 in Des Moines, IA, and a true class struggle unionist. In this episode, he gives us an inside look into the working conditions for UPS workers, the colossal stakes of this labor battle, and the lengths he and his fellow Teamsters are willing to go to win one of the largest labor strikes in US history.
As we approach the deadline, we encourage everyone to show support and solidarity to the UPS Teamsters in their local area. Walk the pickets lines, bring them drinks and snacks, anything to show them that we're rooting for their victory, because a victory for them is a victory for us all.
Tune into "UPS Teamsters on the Frontlines!", a virtual workshop that will be presented by the Freedom Road Socialist Organization on Sunday, July 16th at 5PM Central.
Join your fellow Teamsters in fighting to reform their union by joining Teamsters for a Democratic Union.
