Jesus' brothers and the pharisees wanted Jesus to be something other than what he was because they had their own expectations of what the Messiah would be and do.  Jesus does not conform to our images, he embodies truth.

John 6:66-71  Peter correctly identifies that Jesus is the only source of eternal life but in the course of John 6, thousands walk away.  What did they walk away from?  Why did they walk away?  Why did they walk away?  How can we avoid making the same mistake?

After the feeding of the 5000, the crowd followed Jesus in the hope of getting more physical bread.  However, when Jesus confronted them with their spiritual needs and offered himself as the bread of life, many left.  Are we pursuing Jesus to really know him or just to have our needs met?

In John 5, Jesus said that the works the Father had given him to do testified that he was sent by the Father. His statements are followed in John 6:1-21 by two profound miracles but people continue to doubt, or to want more signs or to draw the wrong conclusions about Jesus.

Although John 5 is the story of the healing at Bethesda, the focus is on relationship.  The works of Jesus are driven by his relationship to the Father.  Jesus points out that the Jewish leaders looked to the law for eternal life but life really comes from relationship - from knowing Jesus.

Ken leads a discussion of Matthew 9: 35-38 using the questions from David Platt.  Specifically, the focus was on joining words like "and", "when"; cause and effect; and pronouns.

Ken discussed the importance of Bible study and then the congregation studied John 1:1-13 together using the study questions from David Platt.

Wake introduces the Secret Church video series which we will view in July and August.  The goal of this series is to increase our ability to study scripture ourselves so that we can feast on God's word throughout the week, not just on Sunday morning.

The woman at the well provides are real-life illustration of the principles that Jesus discussed with Nicodemus: the scope of "whoever" in John 3:16, the lack of condemnation from Jesus and the call to a new life focused on Jesus as the source of new birth, the treasure, the bridegroom, the water that truly satisfies.
