Ken discusses the themes of being with Jesus and seeing his glory which are woven through Jesus' high priestly prayer in John 17.  We are made to worship and the natural response to Jesus' glory is awe and worship.  Jesus wants us to be with him, not merely as servants but as friends and as his bride.  As we get to know him, we see more of his glory and anything else we might desire will seem like a trinket in comparison.

In John 19:35, the Apostle John asserts his credibility as an eyewitness of the death of Jesus.  His account affirms that Jesus knew he would die, when it would happen and how it would occur.  Jesus was in control of his death.  He chose to die because of the purpose: defeating death and buying back his wayward bride.  Easter confirms his identity as the Messiah and demonstrates he successfully achieved his purpose.

Wake preches over John 15:18-27 and John 17:1-4 encorages us to love a hateful world.

Ken discusses Jesus repeated exortation to love one another as he has loved us.  There are at least two reasons for this exhortation: we have changed our allegiance to the eternal family/kingdom of God and our love for one another is a powerful witness to a watching world.

Wake discusses John 15: 1-11 in which Jesus tells his disiples that they need to abide in Him to have a fruitful life. Abiding in Jesus is marked by engaging with the scripture and prayer, since that is how one cultivates a realationship with Jesus.  In order to produce more fruit,  the Father will prune a branch  that abides in Jesus, but the other option is to be cut off.  Joy is one of the main fruit of abiding in Jesus.

In John 14:1-3, just hours before the most emotionally disturbing events of their lives, Jesus tells his diciples not to let their hearts be troubled.  Jesus goes on to talk about how their needs at all levels will be addressed in eternity and nothing can take that away from a believer.  It is that hope in the eternal which allows the believer to weather the storms of this life.

If a visitor to our church had never been in a church before but had read the biblical description, would they be surprised by what they exerienced in our service.  What does it look like to exhibit Christ -like love in the church?  Wake and the congration wrestle with the concept.

Ken preaches on John 12:32-13:11.  Jesus says that he is the light and that when a person looks at him, he see the one who sent him.  Jesus' example crushes the idea of God as a mean-spirited judge and demonstrates unbelieveable love and mercy even for people who within hours will betray, deny and abandon him.
