Film Haven Reviews

Welcome back to Film Haven Reviews!! This week we are back with another Movie Club episode this time with the bizarre Chris Hansen kind of biopic Primetime (2026)

You are going to want to tune into this episode because we have lots to say about why this film was made, whether it should have been made at all, and what movies like this (and the show it is based on) say about our society. We did enjoy it but we have lingering questions and ponderances that I'm sure many people tuning in have been musing about as well. So tune in! and leave a 5 star rating if you like the show!

Welcome back to Film Haven Reviews!!! This week we are contiuing our "Hammer Vamp" theme with Kiss of the Vampire (1963)

This film followed alot of the same beats as our last episode but changed it up enough to hold its own and be interesting. I gave this film a 7/10 for its vibrant color, cool culty vibes, even if it did feel pretty derivative at points.

Welcome back to Film Haven Reviews!!! This week we are starting a brand new "Hammer Vamps" theme with the film Brides of Dracula (1960)

This was my first Hammer film and I was not disappointed!! The sets were awesome, Dr. Van Helsing was super cool, and the colors were vibrant and crisp. I gave this film a 7/10 for providing a fun straight forward vampire adventure and nothing more.

Welcome back to Film Haven Reviews!! This week we got the movie club girls back on to talk about Zack Cregger's new film Resident Evil (2026)

We really enjoyed the film for its simplified storytelling and beautiful cinematography. We also loved how the movie was adapted to feel like a video game but didnt necessarily require you to play the Resident Evil games to enjoy or "get" the film.

Welcome back to Film Haven Reviews!! This week we are finishing up our "Old Haunted House" theme with the actual haunted house movie The Uninvited (1944)

This was a very atmospheric and mysterious ghost story and I appreciated how well it was filmed and written. I gave this a 7.5/10 for some good set design, great visual effects, and an engaging story that kept you waiting till the very end!

Welcome back to Film Haven Reviews!! This week we are continuing our "Old Haunted House" theme with the Bobe Hope classic The Cat and the Canary (1939).

This film was much better then last week's dud and basically suceeds in all the ways that film failed. I gave it a 7.5/10 for a cool spooky setting, a fun mystery, and some great well acted characters.

Welcome back to Film Haven Reviews!!! This week we are starting a brand new theme to kick off spooky season and I'm calling it the "Old Haunted House" theme. We are starting it off with the James Whale/Boris Karloff classic The Old Dark House (1932).

I really tried to like this movie more, but it was honestly pretty middling. The performances were good and some of the characters were somewhat interesting, but the atmosphere and spooky vibes were at a minimum compared to what I was expexting. I gave this movie a 5/10 for some solid craft work, but really not providing anything that special.

Welcome back to Film Haven Reviews!! This week we are continuing our "Mona Lisa" theme with the contraversial film Mona Lisa Smile (2003).

I originally really liked this movie, but afterwards learned that the whole premise is based on a lie. Wellsely College is apparently completed misrepresented in the film and considering how important the college is to the movie, it makes the whole film feel hollow because its based on an important lie. I still gave the film a 6/10 for some incredible performances and some really good costumes and general period work.

This was an excellent character study and a hard to watch journey. Its both heartwarming at times and heartbreaking. I gave this film an 8/10 for the excelent acting, great writing, and terrific ending. I highly recommend.
