Filmshake - The ‘90s Movies Podcast

Send us a text

Nic skypes over the sea with old friend, Dr. Jonathan Robker, to discuss Star Wars, from the pair's original childhood introductions to the franchise, on through the 90's (WOO, 90's!), to their shared experience with the prequels, to their thoughts on the recently completed sequel trilogy. This is a deep dive into Star Wars, featuring tangents into both the old and new EU, as well as a look at Star Wars' possible futures.
While this is a break in format (Jordan sits this one out, and there's no trivia battle), Jordan and Nic will be back with a vengeance (but not Die Hard with a Vengeance...yet) on the 15th with...SURVIVING THE GAME!

Avast ye scurvy dogs, here be the newest Filmshake, wherein Jordan and Nic search for buried treasure in the wreck of the 90's greatest flop, Cutthroat Island. Is Renny Harlin's sword-clanking explosio-thon a misunderstood classic, or did it deserve its miserable box-office walk down the plank?
Jordan shivers his timbers recollecting Tremors: A Cold Day in Hell. Will this be the episode he finally hornswaggles his way to trivia victory, or will Nic make him say "Arg?"
Will these two scallywags ever talk like landlubbers again?

Jordan and Nic burrow into 1990's Tremors. Will they dig it, or should they bury it six feet under? Did it Grabboid their attention...? It's gotta be better than the 2012 Total Recall remake Jordan reports back on. Will this be the episode Jordan unearths trivia redemption, or will he again experience the motherhumping agony of defeat?

Jordan woefully reports back on being made to watch Super Mario Bros (1993). Then, Nic and Jordan venture back to 1990 to re-discover the glorious absurdities of Paul Verhoeven's sci-fi action flick, Total Recall. Or do they? PLUS! Arnold prank calls us during the Trivia Battle.

Nic and Jordan dive into the year 1994 and discuss The Chase, starring Charlie Sheen and Kristy Swanson, as well as a '94-themed trivia battle. They also get into a brief discussion of the 2015 Point Break remake in the Fallen Warrior section...turns out it's not quite as good as the original. Who'd have guessed?

Our 90's adventure begins with a Fallen Warrior review of 1990's infamous Troll 2 (worst movie ever made?). Then it's off to 1991 with Kathryn Bigelow's Point Break, starring Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze. Join us as we dive into this adrenaline-soaked action flick (featuring surfing bank robbers, brah!) which is not so young anymore, not so dumb actually, and has a surprisingly minimal amount of bodily fluids onscreen. Plus, whoever loses today's trivia round at the end of the show will be forced to watch...Point Break...the 2015 remake. *gasp!*

Jordan and Nic take Filmshake live, from the Baton Rouge Mini Maker Faire!
The topic of this episode is Joker. The dynamic duo saw the film together, but kept their opinions from each other a secret...until this recording. Will they agree? Disagree? If the latter, will their dissent match the national furor? Will everyone hate them afterward as much as they did after their Once Upon a Time...In Hollywood Episode? Listen to find out!
Also, after a long and brutal downward spiral, during a special Batman edition, Nic finally reaches trivia rock bottom.

Jordan gives a quick update about the new format of the show.

Nic and Jordan dive deeper into the flatulence of Ozu's Good Morning as they discuss spoilery moments from the end of the film.

Nic reports back on the Fallen Warrior Review after losing the trivia battle last time, where he vents his anger about what he was made to watch, a bottom-of-the-barrell Netflix film called The Last Summer. Then Nic and Jordan finish off their Japanese Masters series with the lighthearted comedy Good Morning from director Yasujiro Ozu in 1959. A culminating Japanese movie trivia battle follows at the end, along with the reveal of our new series/format for the show.
